About Annalisa Joecks

We live in San Francisco, CA USA and this is our second home that we use when we go skiing or when we just want to get away from the day to day.

Annalisa Joecks purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Annalisa Joecks chose Tahoe City

This cabin was built in 1951 in the 'Classic Tahoe Style' we fell in love with it, and hope you will too!

What makes this cabin unique

Circular drive, long enough to accomodate a boat in tow. If you don't feel like going to the lake just enjoy the park setting just out the back door.

Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was small yet was equipped with everything that we needed. Cabin is very close to main road so was noisy but convenient for dining. Really a great place for a couple or small family

Ok, but not Great...

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for two nights with out daughters and our dog. I loved that we could bring our dog and that they provided food bowls for him.

We knew it was small and a bit quaint going into it, but there were some things we wish were a bit improved.

#1: Communication: I didn't receive an email prior with instructions and lock box codes. I emailed the owner on our way up and she did promptly reply with the lock box code, but it would have been nice to get a soft copy of all the instructions BEFORE getting in the house...especially the bear proof wires.....Even though we come up to Tahoe 5+ times a season, we've never seen one of these in any of the houses we stayed at and were totally taken aback by it, including our dog who ran up and got a nice little shock.

#2: Wifi: It was spotty and didn't work in the bedroom next to the living room, even though the house was super small and the room is right off where the wifi box is.

#3: Showers: HOLY CRUD!!! Seriously, It will knock you out of the shower. It's like someone is using the jet setting on a hose. The water gets everywhere and I seriously thought I was going to lose a nipple with how hard it was coming down.

#4: Upstairs bedroom. The windows are not double paned and there are no curtains, so between the street noise and the morning sun, we got very little sleep. I much preferred the downstairs bedroom even though....

#5: There is definitely mice in the walls. We heard them squeaking throughout the night...which was a bit unsettling.

All in all, its not bad for a cabin/glamping type feel. But for over $300 a night with the VRBO and cleaning fees, I don't think it was worth it.

Owner's Response: Dear Alexis, I do apologize about not sending the advance information of our lockbox code and directions and bear wires. (90% of the homes in our neighborhood have the same bear prevention system). I try to be diligent about sending this and I am very sorry about your dog’s experience with the system. Our own dog had the same experience once and we really felt awful. Luckily the system is not meant to harm animals, rather just give a tiny jolt to keep them away. Trust me, you do not want to have a bear in the home when you arrive. In January 2017 there was a huge storm, which took out a tree across the street and thus left our home without power for 8 days, and without cable/wifi for about 2 weeks. Then when it was restored it was a temporary fix on the part of Sudden Link, our cable company. They have been in the area and restored the permanent cable wires just after your stay. The wifi is now available in all of the areas in the house with a strong signal. I wish you had contacted me about this as I would have contacted the cable company to see if this could have been fixed sooner. As for the windows in the upstairs bedroom they are in fact double paned - which is why in the winter that room is the warmest in the house other then the living room where the gas fireplace is located. The windows are an odd shape and the home is very old (ca 1951) so I am trying to find a suitable window treatment that will allow for the beautiful view. After dark, I enjoy seeing the stars from my bed. I have replaced the shower heads to low flow, which makes the shower much more gentle. I am sorry you were not happy with the value. I research other rental properties in our area of Lake Tahoe and find that our rental fees are less then other places that are of comparable amenities, especially those that allow dogs. I have no control over the fees that VRBO charges.

Comfortable, cozy, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our 3-day weekend at this lovely cabin. My wife and I, along with our 2 daughters (6 and 9 yrs) and our small dog (25 lbs) were comfortable and happy here. We skied at Homewood and Alpine Meadows, and enjoyed the proximity to Tahoe City. The cabin is well-equipped and we never said "If this place only had _____ then it would be perfect." For us, it was perfect. Especially enjoyed the loft bedroom and bathroom upstairs. It was a pleasure to stay here.

Charming Little House in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We spent a snowy Christmas delightfully nestled around this cabin's focal point, its fireplace. Enveloped in the fireplace's warmth, enchantment and tranquility we contentedly ate, played games, watched holiday movies, read, opened presents, talked and napped. The cabin is clean, attractive, well appointed and the kitchen is exceptionally well stocked. As one who has been part of a resort operation for over 50 years I brought supplies I did not expect to find in the cabin but, to my surprise, they were there. It is in a perfect location and we did a lot of tromping around on the paths by the cabin in the snow. Ward Creek with its babbling brook and, of course, Lake Tahoe itself were wondrous places to behold in their winter settings. We met congenial and helpful neighbors on our walks and our dog had a great time playing with the resident dogs. Annalisa was at the ready the couple of times we needed her assistance pleasantly and efficiently getting us out of our jam. We would highly recommend this property and have it tucked away as a place we must consider visiting again in the future.
