"I'd take $200,000 for the house and turn down $1,000,000 for the deck" Dad used to say as we sipped bourbon in the cool of the evening watching the canoes across the lake.

After camping in their travel trailer for many years both over the road and at Land Harbor my parents bought a lakefront lot and built a house. When the house was finished there was a party and Mother named the house "Duncampen" as she was so pleased with her home and never wanted to see another travel trailer. If you are "done camping" you might enjoy a trip to "Duncampen" as well.

This house has so much to offer that you really need to see the pictures and the Land Harbor video to appreciate it. After the deck most folks talk about the dining room on the lake, a beautiful glassed room adjacent to the deck and the great room.

The great room houses the kitchen and the lovely solid cherry breakfast bar, a generous gathering area, and a sitting area facing the beautiful floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and 55" Smart LED TV.

The Kitchen is equipped with all stainless steel appliances including a very quiet dishwasher and disposal and granite counter tops. A separate ice maker is located to be convenient to the Dinning Room, the Great Room and the deck for added convenience.

The Master bedroom has a queen size bed, a walk in closet, and a master bath with a two sink vanity, a large soaking tub with adjustable air/water jets, and a separate toilet room.

The guest bedroom has a queen size bed with a semi-private bath. The bathroom is accessible from the Great Room and the Guest Room.

The staircase between the Upper and Lower level of the house has a middle landing with casement windows at the top and at the middle for amazing ventilation. The walls and ceiling of the staircase were hand made of tongue and grove wood, built board-by-board by my father and then finished with a medium gloss clear varnish.

The lower level has two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and a 1/2 bath-utility room and the other a double size bed and a full bath. The Play Room is a large TV (55" smart TV) and a huge couch.

About Charlie Milford

Charlie and Marsha Milford. We are retired, Marsha as a nurse and me as a business manager. We own the house with my sister and my brother-in-law. It was built by my father in his retirement years. We live on Lake Blalock in a few miles North of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Charlie Milford purchased this house in 2005

Why Charlie Milford chose Newland

It has been a big part of our lives. Our children slept in the loft above the kitchen and remember to this day their grandfather waking them with the smell of country ham cooking on the stove below.

We have just completed fully updating the house with 2017 styles and know that Mother would love it. She named the home 'Duncampen' as she really was done camping! It is a lovely place to rest and a great spot to jump from. Either way, there is more to do in these wonderful hills than you will ever get done.

Having guests share in the beauty of this place is a great joy of ours. It helps to defray the costs, but more than that the best is squeezing one more day of pleasure from this house for a growing list of friends of Duncampen.

What makes this house unique

Lots of space, great view and all the benefits of Linville Land Harbor for a very reasonable fee. The house has 4 bedrooms with beds for 8 adults, a large sofa in the play room, a medium sofa in the great room and a children's loft above the kitchen. As many as 12 people can sleep happily.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your 5 star review. Of course I left the same review for you this morning. We are glad you enjoyed the house as much as we do. You might find it interesting that my niece called to ask me if we could have a 3 generation gathering this spring. We hope you will come to visit again soon. Charlie

Duncamping was a fun, family trip. The house is perfect for children of all ages. We played games on the dinning room table, while watching the Olympics, cooking meals together, children in the loft, all together without being crowded. The weather was not good for skiing, but the 8 and 10 year old did ski and tried out tubing! The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. Plans are already being made to return. We felt the owners wanted us to enjoy our stay, and were very informative on the house, things to do in the area, and were available if needed.

Lovely Area

  • 4 of 5

We were at Duncampin in February and there was some snow on the ground, but the views are incredible. I can imagine it is simply beautiful in the Fall, Spring and Summer!

The house was plenty roomy and my grandchildren were excited to sleep in the loft. We went to Linville Falls for a family weekend and to go snow tubing at Jonas Ridge. We were close to Jonas Ridge and also grocery shopping in Newland. We definitely recommend it!

Wonderful Thanksgiving Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time at Duncampen. We had everything we needed at our fingertips, and it was such a comfortable and inviting place to stay. Although we were too late for the fall colors, the view was spectacular. We all enjoyed walking the trails around the lake and also seeing the Christmas lights at night shining across the lake and through the trees.

Spacious, Comfortable, Immaculate

  • 5 of 5

We really liked this place. Very pretty home, with a great floor plan and two spacious, comfortable living areas, each with a smart TV. The bed I slept in was very comfortable and I think everyone felt the same. House was well-equipped with what you need. The only things I would recommend bringing are napkins and a bag of ice, along with whatever food you're packing. The owner was super pleasant to deal with.
