About this property

North Pole Cabin Retreat

Our North Pole Cabin Retreat is a great place to come for a day, a week, or a month or more. A person can experience life in Alaska in comfort. Our log cabin was built in 2002 and has had many guests over the years. We provide housing year round, and winter or summer the cabin is warm, dry, and safe. Running water is a must, as are clean comfortable beds. The cabin has two queen beds, kitchenette, full private bath, BBQ and picnic area outside. Parking is nearby. We are only 2 miles from grocery, dentist, medical, gas stations, gift shops, dining establishments, churches and bars. Although you are close to the comforts of everyday living, it will seem as if you are a long way out in the woods. We are located in a private, wooded property with a waterway flowing by. In summer there are many nesting ducks. There are many wild flowers growing all around, as well as hanging baskets of flowers we plant for your enjoyment.

We had a great stay at this cabin. It kept us warm even though it was -40F. You will find everything you need in it. Our host Nancy was super helpful and gave us toe warmers and tips for things we could do. The area is very quiet but easy to access by car. We would definitely book this cabin again to experience the area in a different season.

Small and simple
Nancy is a very pro-active host and she gave many recommendations on activities todo. The place is small and cozy, a perfect winter getaway. The house was at good temperature even though outside was -40F. Nancy also provided an option to park close to the house and she would bring electric hookup to keep car warm. A must stay place to relax and enjoy the winter.

Cozy home base to explore interior Alaska and hunt for the Northern Lights!
Our family of four stayed in this cabin for 6 nights in the heart of winter to explore Alaska and hunt for the Northern Lights. We were so happy we stayed at this cabin. The cabin is located in a great location where you feel like you're in a true winter wonderland in a very quiet, wooded area but within 3 minutes of a Safeway and several restaurants (Wendy's, Taco Bell, a great tamale stand, etc...). Our main goal was to see the Northern Lights, and this cabin is located a short and easy 7-10-minute drive to Chena Lake (depending on where on the lake you go). Chena Lake is an incredible place to view the Northern Lights. This same lake is where Rod's Alaskan Guide Service does their ice fishing and dog sledding Northern Lights tours. The cabin is also well furnished, well supplied, and was very cozy for all of us, including our two younger teenage daughters. The heater worked great, had running water (which we learned is not a given for rural places in Alaska), and we never ran out of hot water. Taking hot showers was a huge plus when you're living in -30 degree temps. The owner (Northpole Nancy) was very responsive before and during our stay and we maintained excellent communication with her. She is also extremely knowledgeable of the area and provided us with great tips during our stay.

I was born in the Alaskan Territory and raised in this area, the daughter of early Alaskan Pioneers. My father is the first civilian to drive the Alaska Highway and he entered Fairbanks in November 1943 after a long trip up the Alcan as it was being built. He met my mother, who was here, working as a flight instructor. The two of them flew, together and separately here in Alaska. Flying became a lifetime venture, with my father, retiring in 1980 after an accident-free career in public air transportation in Alaska airspace. I, myself became a licensed pilot, but opted for a life on the ground, raising my sons and now a grandson. I enjoy earth bound things and am deeply rooted here in the 'frozen north'. As a child, I rode around with my father in a 1925 Model T Ford truck. Even now, it still runs, and I drive it for the enjoyment of the general public. Pictured here is me, and the old truck.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with this place because it is such a 'retreat' and so 'Alaskan'. I love the log home look and feel, and I enjoy the wooded, private environment here. The water nearby is peaceful and such a great place for the ducks to nest and raise their young. It is a peaceful place to wake up each morning and to go to bed each night. You can hear the birds singing and the chatter of squirrels, and the sounds of nature are not drowned out by the sounds of the nearby highway.

What makes this property unique

Available year round with comfort, warmth, privacy, and convenience. Our North Pole Cabin is located in a peaceful setting, great for tourists, and also great for folks working or visiting in the area. We are 9 minutes from the Eielson Air Force Base and 20 minutes from the Ft Wainwright Army Base. We are 7 minutes from the Oil Refinery, and 20 minutes from downtown Fairbanks. If you are WORKING, TOURING, or VISITING FAMILY our North Pole Cabin is a great choice for many reasons, including having a memorable 'cabin experience' in ALASKA!!
