About Mary and Brian

We live in the Detroit area with our 3 children. We were both raised in Michigan - Grand Rapids and Frankenmuth, and have vacationed in northwest Michigan since meeting in 1996. We have always loved the Leelanau peninsula and love having a home here. We've built great memories with family and friends, and have been continuously improving it over time; rescuing the home from years of inattention, the beach from disrepair, and the yard from major overgrowth. We love it and we hope you do too!

Mary and Brian purchased this house in 2011

Why Mary and Brian chose Suttons Bay

We fell in love with the spectacular view the minute we walked in the front door. The open layout of the home makes it great for families. It's beautiful in the summer, stunning with color in the fall, and calm & cozy in the winter. We love the location with so many activities nearby, yet the quiet of being away from the Traverse City chaos. It's the perfect place to relax with friends and family.

What makes this house unique

It's great to be in an area where you feel 'away from it all' but also to have access to restaurants, shopping, grocery and hardware shopping, entertainment, wineries, a casino, and amazing outdoor beauty all within 15 minutes.

Balance restored

  • 5 of 5

I can state it no more succinctly than my two year old grandson. As we walked to the back of the house, he saw the bay at the bottom of a lush green yard shaded by trees. "dis is amazing"

We enjoyed kayaking and my SUP made its maiden voyage in waters both glass like and challenging. Less than a mile away, you can access the Leelanau bike trail that runs from Suttons Bay to Traverse City. Shopping and sight seeing exists within 20 minutes either way and 22 provides scenic travel both ways

The house itself is lovely and provides everything you need including a perfect view of the sunrise each and every morning from inside of the house or out on the deck which has ample seating.

Here we found peace and restoration; and I found myself teary eyed for the first hour of the journey home. Birks family, we cannot even begin to thank you enough.

God bless your journey.

Well equipped Beach house, good for families and winery visits

  • 5 of 5

Two families: four adults and five children (7,5,3,2,6 months) had plenty of room and lots of stuff to do, thanks to this very well equipped house.

We had a couple of instances where we needed to contact the owners and they provided white glove service for us. They handled everything extremely professionally.

Everything in the house worked properly.

The property has a decent beach and a nice yard, conducive to lawn games.

This was my third time renting a house in the area and would give it my approval as a very good value option.

Family friendly, great location!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place for a family vacation! We had 3 generations and couldn't have asked for a better place to spend time together. Lots and lots of toys and games for children, dock for our son to keep his fishing boat on site, and very large inside so even with 10 people we didn't feel like we were all squished into one house. The house is "homey" with lots of nice little touches, a little older but that works better if you have kids so you don't have to worry so much about them touching, playing with things. Highly recommend for families wanting to be right on the water and a short distance from Traverse City or Sutton's Bay.
