About this property

River Cottage on the Comal Springs - Long term rentals

Nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country on the bank of the Comal Springs, this charming 800 square-foot historical cottage is fully furnished with a kitchen, fireplace for ambiance only (non-functioning) and central air and heat.

Villa Sartain is reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside. Italian cypress trees line the sweeping 500 foot drive down to the entrance of your peaceful vacation cottage. This idyllic cottage is perfect whether you want to play in the crystal clear Comal Springs or just relax and enjoy the mild climate and scenic beauty.

The cottage is set-up for a romantic get-away for couples. (only one couple on the property at a time). The screened-in porch is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and the peaceful views. Prepare your lunch on a gas grill in the outdoor stone living area, then top off your evening by the chiminea around a stone cocktail table.

There are five flagstone patios terraced down to the Comal Springs for dining, reading and relaxing. The lower terrace features a semi-private swimming and floating area and a charcoal grill at the river bank. The location, serenity and privacy create a paradise for snow birds and travelers looking for a month or longer get-away.
The whole community of New Braunfels is charmed by the reassuring whistle of the train. Just 1.5 miles from the historic town of Gruene and Gruene Hall, the oldest operating dance hall in Texas.

Beautiful cottage with 5 star service.
Janie and Allen were great. My husband and I stayed in their cottage for an extended work trip and ended up being much busier than anticipated. Janie and Allen made sure we always had what we needed and then some with our crazy schedules. So happy with the time we got to spend there! The cottage is beautiful. The river is peaceful. The hosts are 5 star.

Assi of Texas
We stayed at the villa for the month of February. Our intent was to get to know the New Braunfels area and decide if it was a place we could live. Our hosts at the villa helped make it an easy decision. They are excellent ambasadors for the region. They were very helpful in directing us to places to visit and explaining the local culture. Quite frankly, they were lots of fun! As for the cottage and setting, check out the other reviews. They are all true! This is a great place to rent for a vacation. The accommodations are special and the setting is great. We would have no hesitation in returning to Villa Sartain. Ciao! .

A November respite from the rainy Northwest
We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay at the Villa Sartain. The cottage was charming - far more impressive and unique than the photos show. The location was convenient for all our New Braunfels and Hill Country explorations. There was so much to see and do in November, and the weather was a treat for two Oregonians. We particularly loved the warm welcome from our hosts, Janie and Allen, and how they continued to make us feel at home throughout the month.

Beautiful scenery and impeccable service
My husband and I stayed in this lovely cottage for the weekend and we could not have asked for more. Janie, the owner has thought of everything and showed us the best hospitality! Her suggestions were spot on and her thoughtfulness made us feel welcome like we were visiting family. Beautiful bike ride into New Braunfels for coffee and farmers market. Great time in Greune, exploring true Texas (living in Dallas is not Texas). Highly recommend for couple's getaway, stay a week or a month and you will not regret it. Kayaking down the Comal River is refreshing and caught several nice bass.

EXCELLENT!
I hate writing this review, because it can only result in more demand....and higher prices! Janie is an excellent hostess and the property is very, very nice. Old world charm and modern conveniences....what's not to like?? The owners were very thoughtful and left nothing to chance. Our 3 night stay was AWESOME and included a couple of surprise "plates" from Janie. By far, the "cold plate" of venison sausage/mustard/crackers was the BEST!! The Cottage is close to everything that New Braunfels has to offer, yet very private and relaxing. This is a most excellent place to spend a night or ten. Watch out for Ceazar 2....he might lick your leg!!

Family owned property built in 1938 by Grandmother Lula Sartain. The integrity of the cottage has been preserved throughtout and updated for convenience and code requirements. This kind of charm can only be passed down through generations.

Why they chose this property

The Comal Springs where the cottage is located is a truly a magical place. The location is a premium to both visitors and residents of New Braunfels. Ample parking and plenty of security through cameras, gates and lighting.

What makes this property unique

Location location. Water access is ideal, free use of kayaks, canoes and tubes for use on the Comal Springs. Plenty of privacy for honeymooners, special celebrations and peace in general.
