Private, cozy retreat nestled in some of the highest mountains in North Georgia, 8 miles north of Dahlonega off of Hwy 60, adjacent to the Chattahoochee National Forest, situated in the midst of Georgia's Wine Highway. Enjoy wonderful views of sunrise and sunset from the private Treehouse deck. The Treehouse, which is self contained with its own private entrance, is a carriage house, built in 2012, charmingly furnished, and has a large living and dining area. Kitchen amenities are microwave, toaster oven, 2 burner stove, coffeemaker, dishwasher and refrigerator. There is a Weber grill for outdoor grilling. Bath with shower is directly off the cozy sleeping nook, which has a very comfortable queen size futon. The living area also has a twin sleeper. Traveling with friends, or if you don't need kitchen facilities, consider the Terrace Suite, a newly completed one bedroom suite, encompassing the entire terrace level of Pine Cone Lodge. Make yourself at home!
Dahlonega is the gateway to the North Georgia mountains, and a playground for hikers, bicyclists, motor bikers and wine enthusiasts. The local vineyards have become popular for weddings.
Dick's Creek, Cooper's Creek, Woody Gap and Lake Winfield Scott and Lake Vogel are nearby for swimming and some of the best trout fishing in the country.
Visit the many waterfalls in the area, and don't miss hiking DeSoto Falls, a friendly hike with two waterfalls.
Enjoy touring the 6 wineries surrounding us for tastings or dining with fantastic mountain views.
Rafting, kayaking and tubing is available on the rivers around Dahlonega, and you might decide to pan for gold or tour the gold mines.
Antique shops and restaurants are plentiful in downtown Dahlonega, as well as art galleries, specialty shops, tasting rooms and the Gold Museum. The first Dress Up and J.R. Crider's was established here, and are a must stop for the younger crowd. If you are having "withdrawal" from the city, there is a Starbuck's about a block off the square. On the first Friday of the month Hancock Park has live music, just behind the square. A "mini Chastain", if you will.
Don't miss Wolf Mountain Vineyard for brunch, lunch or a glass of wine. Make reservations before you come, they fill up fast. Montaluce is a great dinner spot, if you want to get to another winery. Three Sisters, Frogtown, Kaya and Cavendar Creek are also not to be missed. Frogtown has special dinner and brunch events throughout the year that are wonderful, with more beautiful views.
Some of our favorite dining spots in Dahlonega, on or just off the square, are the Oyster Bar-seafood and good oysters, Shenanigan's, all around menu, just great food and an outdoor deck with music, and it is pet friendly. Bourbon Street is Cajun style, with a porch overlooking the square and another pet friendly back deck. Want a good margarita and Mexican-go to Pueblo's, without a reservation you will probably have to wait. Gold City has good barbecue, done on the Green Egg. Connie's Ice Cream shop wins "Best sandwich in Dahlonega" every year. Gustavo's has great salads and garlic cheese rolls. Of course they have pizza, Stromboli, pasta, etc. Crimson Moon is where you want to go for live entertainment. The entertainers change nightly. The Picnic Cafe serves light breakfast and lunches with some outdoor seating. Corkscrew Cafe is more fine dining, very good, with indoor and outdoor seating.
A couple of miles from the square you will find Yahoola Grill and Johnny B's, (great wings and sports bar atmosphere). For breakfast you might want to try Foothill's Grill, Hickory Prime or Wagon Wheel.
If you have had a full day and want to come back, relax and enjoy the view, stop by Feast for gourmet to go.
Finally, if traveling with friends, ask me....there are other accommodations nearby and on property.
I've tried to give you a quick overview, but you can also go to the web site for the Dahlonega Chamber of Commerce to get additional information as to dates of specific events.
