About the property

3 Bedroom 1 Bath On Beautiful Property Best Deal around!

For the traveler who wants to experience the Blue Ridge known to locals, this three bedroom one bath mid-twentieth century farmhouse is located less than a mile from Lake Blue Ridge, minutes from the action of downtown Blue Ridge, and is situated on a fourteen acre farm with lots of room to roam. The bedrooms are furnished with period furniture and feature queen beds in two and a full bed in the third. The kitchen is lovingly renovated to preserve its farmhouse appeal, but has new granite countertops and stainless appliances and sink. The large farmhouse table easily seats six for meals and board games. The bath has been renovated gently to preserve the cast iron tub and sink and its character. The large living area features comfortable sofa, loveseat, and recliner along with a gas burning heater and TV with cable and wireless internet access. Adjacent to the living room a three season porch with glass windows has a porch swing for relaxing and reading. Off the kitchen and third bedroom is a sunroom with two walls of windows looking out over the creek and farm. We provide all the comforts of home, including microwave, local telephone service, and all necessary kitchen utensils and tableware. If you are so inclined, you may build a fire in the original wood-burning furnace in the basement. Washer is available for your use in the basement as well. The owners invite their guests to stroll the banks of weaver creek and mineral springs creek, view the spring that provided water for the farmhouse until recently, and climb the mountain behind on wooded trails. We are only minutes from the Aska wilderness area along the Toccoa river. Come meet Fannin County natives and learn about the Appalachian way of life on small family farms. On site owners can provide additional services and information.

About Cathy Cox-Brakefield

I am a native of Blue Ridge and grew up on this farm. I love Blue Ridge and all it has to offer in the modern era, but want people to remember the days when it was a small farming community, largely isolated from the cities and home to mountain natives like my family, who grew their own food and made many of the necessities of life.

Cathy Cox-Brakefield purchased this farmhouse in 1950

Why Cathy Cox-Brakefield chose Blue Ridge

My parents fell in love with this property and bought it in 1950. They alternated living in town in the home my mother owned and in the existing small house on the property until the early sixties when they began building the current house, one board at a time, while my dad worked as a carpenter and painter with a construction crew. We moved in late 1963 and my parents lived and worked here until my dad's death in 2001. My mother continued to share the property with my own family until her death in 2011. I wanted to preserve the beautiful features of my childhood home and the memories I hold of my parents and my childhood. We began to restore the property, refinishing the beautiful hand-laid hardwoods and cleaning the knotty pine paneling, as well as tiling the bathtub surround and installing new ceiling fan fixtures throughout. I have placed some of my parents artifacts and belongings throughout the home. The farm property has been restored to its former glory by my hardworking husband, who grows vegetables in the garden just as my parents did. The barn was built by my mother and her father shortly after the purchase of the property in order to accommodate the cattle that my parents raised and milked by hand. We have replaced the barn roof, making it an inviting place to play and explore. Our profile picture is from the gazebo at the intersection of our two creeks, where you can relax in the swing with a book and a glass of wine, or snooze while the creek tumbles over the rocks in the background. We hope to share our family's mountain story with you and your family.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We never gave a thought to tearing down this beautiful product of my parent's love for this property and did not want to turn it into a shabby long term rental. Cox Farm is an alternative to the cookie cutter log cabins that proliferate the area but do not express the true character of Fannin County.

A nice get away!

  • 5 of 5

We usually stay a month but due to us moving to the area in May, we stayed a week. The weather was predicted to be rainy the entire week. Mother Nature fooled the meteorologists! We had record breaking temperatures just about every day. We spent the week relaxing along Weaver Creek and getting county type errands done for our new place. Kathy and Gary are terrific! And Missy is too!

Quaint and cozy farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

So convenient to everything downtown, but we always still feel like we have escaped and gotten away from it all! Second time at the farmhouse and third time at a Cox family property for the holidays! Thanks so much as always and see you all very soon!

Found our new little haven in Blue Ridge

  • 5 of 5

Cox Farmhouse is like stepping back in time to grandmas house when you were a small child. It’s quaint,, its cozy and I love that Cathy has kept it like it was when her mom and dad built it. I loved the old timey heaters. It is nice and quiet but close to everything. We will definitely be back again!
