About this property

Authentic Farmhouse On Weaver Creek, Near Town And Lake

For the traveler who wants to experience the Blue Ridge known to locals, this three bedroom one bath mid-twentieth century farmhouse is located less than a mile from Lake Blue Ridge, minutes from the action of downtown Blue Ridge, and is situated on a fourteen acre farm with lots of room to roam. The bedrooms are furnished with period furniture and feature queen beds. The kitchen is lovingly renovated to preserve its farmhouse appeal, but has new granite countertops and stainless appliances and sink. The large farmhouse table easily seats six for meals and board games. The bath has been renovated gently to preserve the cast iron tub and sink and its character. The large living area features comfortable sofa, loveseat, and chair, along with an electric fireplace heater and TV with cable and wireless internet access. Adjacent to the living room a three season porch with glass windows has a porch swing for relaxing and reading and a bistro set. Off the kitchen and third bedroom is a sunroom with two walls of windows looking out over the creek and farm. We provide all the comforts of home, including microwave and all necessary kitchen utensils and tableware. If you are so inclined, you may ask us to build a fire in the original wood-burning furnace in the basement. Washer and dryer are available for your use in the basement as well. The owners invite their guests to stroll the banks of Weaver Creek and Mineral Springs Creek, view the spring that provided water for the farmhouse until recently, and climb the mountain behind on wooded trails. We are only minutes from the Aska wilderness area along the Toccoa river. Come meet Fannin County natives and learn about the Appalachian way of life on small family farms. On site owners can provide additional services and information.

Great place to stay. Cathy and Gary are wonderful hosts. Sitting around visiting with them in the evening was a very nice experience after a day of taking in all the wonderful things to do in the area.. I loved the location and their property. Having the stream running through was a bonus.I highly recommend this place.

We really enjoyed our stay. Meeting Cathy was like meeting a someone you had always known. She made us feel welcomed. The house was old like she said, it was like the ones I lived in growing up.

Pretty setting, great location
We enjoyed our stay here. The property was beautiful, especially with the creek in the front. The house was truly like staying at your grandmother's house, with charming rooms and pictures throughout. Cathy and Gary are wonderful hosts! A huge bonus for us was its proximity to downtown Blue Ridge. It is a very short drive to the shops and restaurants. Our first visit to Blue Ridge was a very pleasant one. Thank you for the wonderful accommodations!

I am a native of Blue Ridge and grew up on this farm. I love Blue Ridge and all it has to offer in the modern era, but want people to remember the days when it was a small farming community, largely isolated from the cities and home to mountain natives like my family, who grew their own food and made many of the necessities of life.

Why they chose this property

My parents fell in love with this property and bought it in 1950. They alternated living in town in the home my mother owned and in the existing small house on the property until the early sixties when they began building the current house, one board at a time, while my dad worked as a carpenter and painter with a construction crew. We moved in late 1963 and my parents lived and worked here until my dad's death in 2001. My mother continued to share the property with my own family until her death in 2011. I wanted to preserve the beautiful features of my childhood home and the memories I hold of my parents and my childhood. We began to restore the property, refinishing the beautiful hand-laid hardwoods and cleaning the knotty pine paneling, as well as tiling the bathtub surround and installing new ceiling fan fixtures throughout. I have placed some of my parents artifacts and belongings throughout the home. The farm property has been restored to its former glory by my hardworking husband, who grows vegetables in the garden just as my parents did. The barn was built by my mother and her father shortly after the purchase of the property in order to accommodate the cattle that my parents raised and milked by hand. We have replaced the barn roof, making it an inviting place to play and explore. Our profile picture is from the gazebo at the intersection of our two creeks, where you can relax in the swing with a book and a glass of wine, or snooze while the creek tumbles over the rocks in the background. We hope to share our family's mountain story with you and your family.

What makes this property unique

We never gave a thought to tearing down this beautiful product of my parent's love for this property and did not want to turn it into a shabby long term rental. Cox Farm is an alternative to the cookie cutter log cabins that proliferate the area but do not express the true character of Fannin County. Enjoy the property and meet our sweet farm dog, our two kitties (maybe) and our three fainting goats. We may provide some veggies from our gardens in growing season.
