Bedrooms Studio
Space 37 m²
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Private comfort. Quiet. Spacious. Clean. Therapeutic and Garden Opportunities

This charming studio cottage has unique privacy and its own street entrance. It is located on the perimeter grounds of a vintage house built in 1884. The property’s interior gardens are a healing sanctuary based on the Chakra system. The owners are yogic body-mind healers in private practice and offer meditation classes and private therapeutic opportunities to visitors and to the Ashland community.

Originally a mechanics garage built in the 1930’s, this 400 sq ft building was completely renovated in 2012. You’ll discover interior cleanliness, bamboo floors in the spacious main room, an entry lobby with coat & shoe caddies, a tiled shower, and a cozy kitchenette (microwave, toaster oven, mini-fridge/freezer). The mini-split HVAC keeps the space at a comfortable temperature throughout the year. There is Wi-Fi for your connection convenience.

Lhasa House is perfect for a single or a couple, but also sleeps as many as 4 people: two upon the queen-sized pillowtop Englander bed, and two upon Ikea’s queen size convertible sofabed. Sheets are white 500+ thread count soft cotton. Towels are thick and plentiful (3 per person).

Lhasa House’s soothing interior is supported by personally gathered artifacts and breathtaking photos from Lhasa, Tibet. There is ample, safe curbside parking right in front of the door.

Please be aware that we love dogs, but cannot accept your canine companion as a guest.

About Candace Cave

We are healers and authors. We've both lived in So. Oregon for more than 10 years and have worked and played together for more than 5 years. We fell in love with this property in the late fall of 2010 and moved aside much of our work in the world to develop it into a space for our healing visions to unfold. Now that the structural remodeling is complete, we are slowly developing the ample land (0.4 acre) into a healing garden based on the chakras.

We enjoy a daily Ashtanga-type yoga practice that you are welcome to sample if it suits you (inquire about practice times). We host on-going, open embodiment meditation classes, 5:45-7:00pm, Zeb on Mondays and Candance on Wednesdays. Learn more on our website.

Candace Cave purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Candace Cave chose Ashland

We found this property when we were not even looking for somewhere to purchase. Dr. Zeb wanted to move out of Talent into a rental home where we could guide groups of people in our work. He hurt his shoulder and Candace took him to the chiropractor on the NE corner of Hersey & Main Street. She saw the realtor sign on the empty property, looked in the window and viewed exactly the dream space for the vision, then called the realtor. In bank foreclosure, the impressive 2-story vintage house had been mostly updated inside, and the 0.4 acre property 4-blocks north of Ashland's Downtown plaza was a price we could actually afford to purchase.

We spent the next two years (2011-2012) putting every bit of spare time and money we could muster into creating habitable spaces in the existing outbuildings to accommodate our work. The interior of Lhasa House was originally designed as Dr. Zeb's office. Circumstances and desire have motivated us to make it available as traveler's accommodation.

What makes this cottage unique

Lhasa House gives you complete freedom and privacy. It is as if you are staying in your own home. The front doorway leads down a delightful path right out onto Hersey Street where there is ample street parking.

The building was originally a mechanics garage, but over the past two years, we've turned it into a delightfully habitable space. Well insulated, with lots of natural daylight, it is quiet and private.

Lhasa House Stay

  • 4 of 5

The property was clean, well updated and met our needs nicely. Since we have traveled to Lhasa in Tibet, the pictures were a reminder of that visit. The bed was comfortable. My wife wants to know the name of the mattress manufacturer. The walk to the theaters was about 15 minutes and very easy. Thank you for making this available.

A good time

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at Lhasa House. It was exactly as described. We took advantage of the extensive gardens and the hot tub. We are playgoers, and appreciated being able to walk to the theaters. Thank you for a great experience.

A restful respite

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is small but cozy, not too far from downtown, although we took our car into downtown for the theater. I was worried there might be noise from the road nearby, but it was actually very quiet. We didn't get to enjoy the garden much, because it was unseasonably cold, but there were lots of flowers in bloom. The owner was responsive to questions. It was our first time to Ashland. We didn't realize that one of the theaters was outdoors, so we weren't really prepared for the cold and rain, but the blanket rental at the theater really helped. Fortunately our seats were under a balcony out of the rain. All in all, a good trip.

Comfortable, Cozy, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Lhasa House is a lovely little cottage in a wonderful garden full of flowers, bushes and trees. It is natural, interesting and fun to walk around. The location is perfect and we could walk to town easily to go to the cinema, restaurants and unique shops. Zeb and Candace are the perfect hosts. They are warm, friendly and very welcoming. We would definitely stay here again.

Just Right For Us

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 perfect nights at Llasa House in April 2016. The cottage is exactly as described. It has everything a couple or small family needs for a vacation in Ashland - comfortable bed, excellent AC, small but adequate kitchen, full bathroom. The location is perfect for theater goers - 15 minutes to downtown. We appreciated the private entrance and the complete respect of our privacy. Parking is easy. The garden is a nice bonus. We plan to stay here on our future trips to Ashland
