Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

The Norton House sits right on the Lake with a breathtaking view of the Big Niangua arm and features hardwood floors and a newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops, new flat screen televisions and free wi-fi. There are 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths plus two additional queen roll-out sofas. All 3 bedrooms have queen beds.

Enjoy Sugarloaf Vineyards picnic grounds and kayaking, relax on the patio and watch the boating activity, grill your supper or eat out, then let the sound of nature lull you to sleep at night.

The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, range, microwave, dishwasher and side bar for your favorite beverages. Enjoy dinners inside in the dining area or outside on the patio so you don't miss the beautiful weather and wildlife! Or, there are several restaurants nearby from casual to fine dining.

In the interest of our guest's privacy we no longer are open to the public to serve wine and food. We have remodeled our previous wine tasting building to be an outdoor clubhouse for our rental guests to use. We no longer serve any food or wine to our rental house guests but you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages to the clubhouse to enjoy. We do have our Sugarloaf wines available for purchase if you like.

The Norton House is located at the Sugarloaf Vineyards west of Camdenton right where the Big Niangua tributary changes from a river to the Lake of the Ozarks. You'll be 'lured' to the Lake where the fishing is amazing for catfish, bass, crappie and walleye. Or play golf at either of two courses, Lake Valley Country club or Old Kinderhook (a Tom Weiskoph signature course).

One of the best features of this property and its sister rental, The Chardonel House, is the easy access to the Lake of the Ozarks. Nestled within the vines of the Sugarloaf Vineyard property you can walk to the Lake shore and enjoy the picnic grounds, fishing, or kayaking activities. You have free access to 2 kayaks, singles or tandems for the length of your stay and can pack a nice picnic lunch and your favorite beverages to enjoy while leisurely paddling the Niangua.

No matter what your perception of a perfect vacation is, you won't be disappointed with the relaxation and serene feeling you will have when you leave this refreshing property!

About Barb Morris

Owners are Ward & Barb Morris who moved to the Lake in 1985 and raised our 3 children in one of the most beautiful locales in the U.S.! Barb owned and operated several Lake area restaurants over the past 27 years and enjoys the fine art of cooking and especially, pairing food with wine! Ward takes weekend breaks from his Computer Consulting career to tend to over 1000 grapevines on the property and looks forward each fall to harvest time.

Barb Morris purchased this house in 2000

Why Barb Morris chose Camdenton

This property is adjacent to Ward & Barb's home and was purchased to expand the vineyard and develop the lakeshore picnic area.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the quiet of the Lake and especially the Niangua Arm tributary with it's amazing wildlife. During the months of February, March, October & November you can often spot as many as 700 great white Pelicans feeding on Lake fish for as long as 2 weeks as they migrate. This actually inspired the name of one of Sugarloaf Vineyards wines; the White Pelican, a dry white Chardonel. Other birdlife includes the great bald eagle, blue herons, egrets, seagulls, hawks, owls and host of other. In March, you can spot beautiful red foxes siring their new pups and of course, several deer like to walk through the vineyard and eat Ward's grapevines (to his chagrin)! It's a great family setting for reunions or to get away from the city.

Beautifully kept property, comfortable house, lots to do!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Norton House over an extended weekend in May for a little family getaway. The house is beautifully remodeled and nicely furnished. The beds are comfy and the kitchen very well outfitted with all the necessities. Beautiful view off the back deck and nice picnic and bbq areas. The landscape is pristine with very well kept lawns and a lovely bonfire area down by the water. It is a bit of a hike back up to the house from the water, but the driveway is concrete so it's not a tough walk and you can park about half way down if you want to. The kayaks are a blast and the kids had fun exploring the cave which is not too far away. We caught a big channel catfish when night fishing with bluegill off the dock. I'd guess it was 20-25 lbs. Night fishing was much better than day fishing. Water is quite shallow in the area, most places not more than 3-4 ft deep, but the water was low at the time. The clubhouse was fun too. Lots of games to play, and a ping pong table. We went to nearby Ha Ha Tonka state park which was neat. The "castle" is not much to see and you cannot explore inside it, but the view from up there is awesome and the spring down below is beautiful. It was a great place to stay and Ward and Barb are very friendly and accommodating. We'd definitely go back again!

Perfect #Momcay getaway

  • 5 of 5

Barb is awesome and accommodated a request from us that she'd never had, and we were thankful for that! She worked with us so we could enjoy our getaway, and our stay was great. I never leave reviews, but we loved our time. It was of course the coldest weekend it's been in a long time, but we loved the sunshine and appreciated the time we had together. The house was updated, and beautiful with great views. We didn't check out the clubhouse, because we were content at the house. We would definitely recommend this location.

Peaceful get-away

  • 5 of 5

We four sisters from various parts of the country enjoyed our 6-day get-together at the Norton House. Barb was easy to work with and responsive to our advance questions. The house, with its open floor plan and comfortable seating, promoted conversation, and the three-and-a-half baths were a total luxury! We enjoy cooking when we get together, so the well-stocked kitchen was appreciated. We took advantage of the easy access to Ha Ha Tonka State Park for daily hikes on its varied trails. We'll have to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the fire pit, kayaks and winery.

Owner's Response: Thank you Marilyn! Ha Ha Tonka is a magnificent park with 7 trails, the ruins of the "castle" and the underground spring; I'm glad you had a good time exploring! I hope you have an opportunity to join us again in the summer months and add kayaking to your list of activities! Thanks again, Ward & Barb

Clean, comfy house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

House was clean and comfortable. Plenty of room for our family of four. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes and utensils. Bedrooms were plenty big and the beds were comfortable. Location was great...right on the water and just minutes to town, golf, or hiking in the state park. We had a great time and our kids are already asking when we can go back.
