Great view
Arenal Lodge. - Although on VRBO seems outside contractor (maybe travel agent) Booked for us it definitely was not directly with the lodge even the name in VRBO was not disclosed. The grounds are huge in the past it was a macadamia nut farm they offer a hiking trail to a museum of what was the nut farm. Its a beautiful walk (hike) not hard children and older people could do it no problem. We woke up to howler monkeys but not overwhelming it’s a good lodge for family vacation reminds me of somewhere the Brady bunch would stay. Pretty dated no plugs near beds small fridge microwave and coffee nowhere near plug I had to move coffee maker to floor near plug to use. Walls are thin neighbors conversations were heard. Luckily they weren’t to loud. The Lodge offers restaurant pool table and bar. The food was not good at all. Staff was friendly. I would stay again if I was taking my family but not for just me and hubby. Never heard from the booking party after it was booked.

Front Staff Totally Unhelpful and Rude
We stayed in an Economy Room. The room itself was fairly clean and the bed was low to the ground but not uncomfortable. The room is dated. We could hear the neighbors upstairs enjoying themselves even though their room was not directly above our room but we shared the exterior wall. The main front desk woman was rude and very obviously biased against not native Spanish speakers. The drive from the road to the lodge (if your accommodations are at the Arenal Lodge which ours was) is up a VERY long, twisty and narrow road. Breakfast was a wonderful buffet. The girl working in the restaurant was attentive and hard working (if only she could pass along customer service to the front desk lady). The view from the lodge was stunning. Take advantage of the gorgeous pool and jacuzzi but be aware that the front desk lady has to be reminded to turn it on. When she finally got around to turning on the jacuzzi (she told us it would take 30 minutes and when we went out 30 min later it was obviously not turned on and had to go back to ask again for it to be turned on she said it shuts off after 40 min so we waited some more for it to get turned on and go back in when it still wasn't on). Once we were able to use the jacuzzi it was relaxing. We were the only ones in the jacuzzi and it felt like we had our own private jacuzzi. The view from the jacuzzi was spectacular. When we checked out we waited for our transport both to our next accommodation as well as to our day's excursion and thought we missed our transport. We saw the tour company van pulling away and I asked the main lady at the front desk to call down to the gate to have the van come back and she totally ignored me the 3 times I explained that we missed our transport and to please call down to the gate. My husband saw another tour van and went to talk to them and they contacted our tour company and got it handled. Finally, the front staff woman turned to me and said "we have lots of tour companies coming through here" and that's it. We had waited in the lobby the whole time but no one came in for us so when we went outside is when we saw the van pull in and then immediately leave. When we get back to this area we will NOT stay at Arenal Lodge. My brother-in-law is from CR and my sister-in-law wants to visit the Arenal area.

Nice, clean, good views of Arenal
The unit was clean and spacious, very comfortable. Hotel facilities and pool are very nice as well. Front desk staff was courteous and helpful. Views of Arenal are spectacular, on those rare occasions when it is clear enough to see it. Overall, a nice place to stay. A few things that could be improved: wifi is intermittent; the unit could use some updating; and the location is quite far off the main road to La Fortuna (more than a mile, and very steep road). On the positive side, that's what gives you the great view of Arenal. But you can't walk anywhere from the hotel, you need to drive. It was a good thing the hotel had a restaurant so we could have breakfast and dinner on the premises without driving. The hot springs (Eco Termales) and the Hanging Bridges Park were excellent and we really enjoyed them. I'd like to come back and do the Volcano Park too.
