About this property

Private, Exclusive Lodge on Woman Lake with Beautiful Views

We would like to thank you for taking time to explore the possibilities of Overholser Lodge. Our 7 bedroom, 6 bathroom private lodge sleeps 20-22 adults in beds plus there are 2 roll aways to bring the capacity to 24. We also have a pac and play for the baby available and a toddler cot. Completed in 2012, we constructed the lodge as our private family retreat. Once you experience it you'll understand why we want to share it.

Welcome!

Approaching the main entrance you will walk up large cut stone steps to a flagstone patio that leads you to the bluestone portico. In front of you are two large hand carved wooden doors. As you enter our home you will immediately feel engulfed by nature. The elements of wood, metal and stone are used throughout. The log stairs lead to the bridge level which incorporate a metal cutout railing depicting nature scenes with numerous animals hidden for the kids to discover. The great-room is two stories high and has a large flagstone fireplace and massive log trusses. It makes the ideal gathering place. The expansive walls of glass open up the lodge to the impressive views of the main part of Woman Lake.

Accommodations

This exquisite lodge features three private suites all with en suite bathrooms. On the main level is the Master suite, which walks out to the lakeside deck. It includes a romantic gas fireplace and a king size Tempurpedic bed while the en suite bath has a large stone shower and an exquisite all copper bathtub. Capacity: 2

On the lower level are the other two bedroom suites with en suite baths. On the lakeside is the Brown Room which walks out to the lower patio and has a queen size timber frame bed. Its bathroom has a vessel sink and glass shower. Capacity: 2-3*

Across the hall on the roadside is the Green Room. It has a queen size sleigh bed and its bathroom has a bathtub with shower. Capacity: 2-3*

One of the nicest bedrooms in the lodge is the Blue Room up on one end of the bridge level. Although it shares a large bathroom with the bunk room from across the bridge it can be set up as its own private suite with en suite bath. The bedroom has a cape cod style queen size bed. There is also a fun place for the kids to play in or sleep-out. The bathroom has two sinks and a jetted bathtub with shower. Capacity: 2-3*

Across the bridge is the Squirrels Nest Bunk Room. There are four timber frame bunk beds each with two single beds. On opposite ends are two hidden nooks each with one twin bed. Capacity: 10

On the opposite end of the lower level from the Brown Room and Green Room is the Orange Room roadside bedroom with log furniture and a full size bed. Capacity: 2-3* Across the hall is the Library that can serve overflow sleeping with its pull-down full size Murphy bed. Capacity: 2

Serving the Orange Room and Library sleeping quarters is the lower level game room bathroom that has a full glass shower and two sinks.

(*= with rollaway, bedroll) All king, queen and full size beds have pillow top mattresses for the most luxurious sleep you can imagine. All linens and towels (except beach towels so bring your own) are included and there are two sets of full size washers and dryers, one on the bridge level and one on the lower level in the exercise room. You will find an iron and ironing board in the Blue Room and Brown Room.

Areas of Enjoyment!

Back on the main level opposite the great-room is the dining room with its massive custom barnwood table made from recycled wood from two-hundred year old New England barns. Adjoining is the open kitchen that allows interaction with the rest of the family during meal preparation. The appliances are all top-of-line stainless steel such as a five burner Wolf induction cooktop and full-size double convection oven. The Fisher-Paykel dishwasher is two drawer for convenient clean-up. There is a large Jenn-Aire refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen and also a additional full-size refrigerator and full-size freezer in the separate cater's area. On one end of the large kitchen is the coffee, coffee makers and sink. On the other side of the kitchen is the copper farm house sink and in the center is the large granite island with built-in microwave and five stools. Just outside is the grilling deck with a large gas grill for those barbecues. Everything needed to prepare a meal is at hand such as pots, pans, many baking and cooking utensils and of course place settings. We even include spices, aluminum foil and cellophane wrap, tea and starter coffee with filters.

Just off the cater's area is a powder room with a barn-wood cabinet and vessel sink.

There is a wrap around deck covering the entire lakeside that has a nice comfortable seating area for quiet conversation or that relaxing morning cup of coffee. Mornings are our favorite time on the upper deck, just sitting and taking in the peace and solitude. It makes our morning cup of coffee feel like so much more. Step down from the deck onto the bluestone terrace where there are a number of tables and chairs for eating. Here you will be looking for that waiter as if you're at a five star resort.

Back downstairs in the lower level is the Game Room, a wet bar with refrigerator, sink and dishwasher. Next to the bar is a exercise room with a elliptical to keep you in shape. Around the corner from the bar is a two person sauna which can be used wet or dry. The entertainment area takes up the remaining space and includes a gas fireplace, a large 65' LCD 3D TV with satellite receiver, a DVD player and a Xbox 360 game console. There is a pool table, a foosball table and a multi-game video and finally the juke box. Just off the game room is the private library for your reading getaway (leaving books are always welcome). Step outside of the game room onto the outside lower patio and you'll see a hammock and another flagstone patio with a six person hot tub that overlooks the lake for relaxing after a fun filled day. Nearby you'll find a fire pit for those evening gatherings of storytelling and roasted marshmallows.

For extra fun and the best view you'll find a spiral staircase up to the lookout tower. This is the perfect place for some solitude.

Down the breezeway just past the tower stairs you'll find a staircase that will lead you up to the Cinema, an actual eighteen person theater for your private movie enjoyment or business meeting. The 1080p HD projector is supplied by media from a BlueRay DVD player, Satellite TV or AppleTV. There is a wet bar with refrigerator.

The lodge is family friendly with different zones for different activities. You'll find areas to engage in conversation, areas for fun, as well as areas for privacy and relaxation.

For music lovers enjoy the Russound Collage system with ten locations of in-wall music with access to local radio stations.

For those who feel the need for connectivity to the outside world, there is Wi-Fi Internet with reception from everywhere inside the lodge not to mention almost anywhere on the property including the decks. Its password protected for your personal use.

Lakeside

Although the lodge is a getaway in itself, Women Lake is the real draw and it's just steps away. Walk down the meandering paths and find yourself at a large dock complex. Here there are steps into the water for easy access to swimming or if you prefer, run and jump off the end of the dock! The shoreline is boulder like however the lake bottom is hard sand with small rocks disappearing as you move out. The water depth is less than two feet at the steps and approximately six feet at the end of the dock. There are two benches to sit on and watch the kids swim or the activity of the lake. Around the corner is a covered slip with a 16.5' Alumacraft fishing boat equipped with depth finder, live well and trolling motor. It's available for rental either 150 daily or 900 weekly. We have a universal boat lift for renters boats or pontoons to protect our dock system. We have sustained damage to our docks and don't allow tie ups. This lift can be used by the lodge or the guest cabin upon request, free of charge. (You must let us know ahead of time the make, model, length and motor size before using our universal lift for your own boat or a rental boat.) We can also help you with a pontoon rental from a local marina.

Our driveway area can easily park six vehicles with another two parking spaces across the road, so no need to park and walk a long way.

If your group needs even more space or a smaller space consider renting our Guest Cabin next door. You'll find it on VRBO under listing number 375696. It's a beautiful log cabin that sleeps eight to ten. Rent both locations and receive a Guest Cabin discount.

If you are seeking a rustic retreat filled with luxurious amenities on the shores of Woman Lake then we invite you to check us out. We would be honored to have you vacation in our private lodge and feel the peace and quiet that we love to enjoy.

Family vacation 2023
This was one of the nicest resorts we have ever stayed. With all the various ages of our family there was something for everyone to do. Especially enjoyed the pool table. Played that a lot. Quite a trek from the lodge to the dock but was doable. Plus side of that was the good exercise. Thanks for an enjoyable stay.

A spectacular Log cabin lodge on Woman Lake
The was our biannual family reunion for our family who live across the country. There is no issue of where to sleep given the size of this lodge. It is one of the most beautiful log properties I have ever stayed in. The design attributes are beautifully designed. For activities they have a game room with pool, jukebox, and foose ball This entertained the kids with games and the lake helping the cousin from across the country bond together. It has an actual theater that seats 16. Outside with a hot tub, and games like ping pong or Corn hole, and lots of seating on the decks to hang out including a fire pit The owner was very cooperative All of the family enjoyed the 5000 acre Woman lake as re rented a pontoon boat and jet ski. This was a great experience for the whole family Only downside was it is about 3 hour drive from MSP to get there.

Making memories
This home is amazing. The amenities are over the top. Lots of space to gather as a group or find a quiet spot to enjoy the view of the lake. Susie & Del thought of everything to make your stay memorable and are so easy to work with. On a scale of 1-5, we give them a 10!

Great stay
Property was super well maintained and cleaned. All the furniture was in good to excellent shape so there were no issues with broken beds or anything like that. We stayed with around 20 people, several kids which worked well. The bunk bed room was put to good use and most slept in there. Kitchen was well stocked with silverware and pots and pans and cooking utensils. I do not think we had to bring or purchase any additional equipment in order to cook. Once I get all the rest of the family to agree on a date for next time we will try to book again.

Susie and I are high school sweethearts and natives of Minnesota. We are concerned for the environment and strive to do our part to improve the world we live in. We love nature, fishing, sailing and the arts. We love to share what we believe are beautiful experiences.

Why they chose this property

We vacationed on Woman Lake years ago. When the opportunity for us to build our own private family lodge on the lake arose we couldn't be more excited. We love views as well as the lake itself so we chose a location that gave us both.

What makes this property unique

We wanted to build a family retreat that presented itself as a true up-north lodge of yesterday yet have it include all the comforts that we all expect today. We call the style of the lodge 'rustic elegance'. The lodge is constructed of Lodge Pole pine and was created by the same company that built Wilderness Lodge at Disney World. The logs are actually recycled because there were standing dead timber from Montana. We included into the construction of the lodge three main elements; wood, stone and metal.
