About this property

'AERIE' Eagles Nest Lodge, Five bedroom, Two kitchen, Full Log home

AERIE Eagles Nest Lodge is Located on the Lake Bastine portion of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, a 19,000 acre man made reservoir, owned primarily by the Department of Natural Resources. There are only a few hundred cabins located on the entire flowage. This ensures a pristine habitat for all the wildlife in the forest.

No matter what time of the year, if your interests are in a wildlife rich Wisconsin vacation, this area deserves your consideration.

The wilderness of the Flowage provides a breathtaking backdrop for some of the most captivating wildlife you ever hope to see.

Are you an outdoorsman? Whether its Boating, Snowmobiling, Fishing, Ice Fishing, Hunting, Hiking, Skiing or Bird Watching you will find this place an abundant bounty of interest.

In addition to the many birds, the flowage is also home to deer, bear, raccoon, fisher, beaver, otter, and other furbearers as well as many species of reptiles and amphibians. On rare occasions, timber wolves and moose are sighted here.

Snowmobiling is the base of the area's winter tourism economy. There's plenty of riding here with more than 1,300 miles of state-funded trails. Mercer is a full-service center with everything from food and lodging to gas and repair and is the gateway to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. The area catches lake-effect snow blowing off of Lake Superior. This giant snow generator typically brings snowfalls measured in feet rather than inches.

Over the years the area has had many visitors, some of them notorious. John Dillinger frequented the area. Al Capone, the Chicago gangster, fished the flowage many times, especially in the years after his release from prison. Charlie Comiskey, founder of the White Sox baseball team, used Jerome's Hunting and Fishing Club on Trude Lake as a place for rest and relaxation for himself and his team.

The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage is truly a water wonderland, offering countless opportunities for ATV's, swimming, canoeing and kayaking. The famous Flambeau River provides adventurous visitors with an unabashed thrill of the wilderness.

There are three floors, the lower being a daylight basement which is an apartment in itself.

The top floor has two bedrooms and a full bath. The lakeside bedroom has two beds, one being a king size and the other a convertible futon bed/sofa. This bedroom has french doors opening onto a small balcony.

The middle level is the main floor. It has a large kitchen, a dining-living area, one bedroom, fireplace. On the lakeside is a large deck with a Weber Genesis II propane grill as well as a charcoal grill. This deck wraps around to the side of the house and is partially screened in.

The lower level has a living-dining area, a kitchen, two bedrooms and a full bath. The living room area has french doors opening onto a concrete patio. On the side of the house is another screened porch. The living area also features a field stone fireplace.

All beds in the lodge are double (full) sized, (1) King size.

The Turtle Flambeau Flowage

A near-wilderness of fish, osprey, woods and water preserves the wild character of Wisconsin’s Northwoods.

The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage was created in 1926 when the Chippewa and Flambeau Improvement Company built a dam on the Flambeau River downstream from its confluence with the Turtle River.

Land bordering the flowage varies from level terrain to steeply rolling hills. The woodlands consist primarily of aspen, northern hardwoods and white birch. Scattered old-growth hemlock and pine provide top-quality nesting habitat for eagles and osprey. Grass openings scattered throughout the forest add habitat diversity and increase the variety and total numbers of wildlife.

The Turtle River was one of the travel routes used by the Indians for many years prior to arrival of the fur traders. It was also used by French voyageurs as a secondary route to Lac du Flambeau. The main fur trading route into the region followed a combination overland and water trail from the mouth of the Montreal River on Lake Superior through present day Mercer, down the Manitowish River to the Bear River and then upstream to Lac du Flambeau.

It is truly a natural treasure!

Family vacation
Very secluded property, but home is dated and dusty. There were cigarette butts in ashtrays and on the pontoon. We appreciated nIce hot showers. If you like to cook, you may want to bring a couple pans and sharp knives. All in all our family had a wonderful vacation.

Fishing with the guys
Five of us came up for a week of fishing and had a great time. Plenty of fish. Great house with a bedroom for each. House had all the necessities and the body of water reminded me of Canada. Very few homes on the water. We didn't get in the car once so I can't say much about the amenities off the lake pr in town but mercer is 30 minutes away and when we drove through there is plenty there. Someone else mentioned the stumps. Highly recommend gps or a good lake map as they are in abundance. Great time. Great location. Bring your bug spray :)

Perfect Honeymoon
My husband and I ended up staying here all by ourselves in September 2013 which made this place seem like a mansion! We had the most romantic time cuddled up by the fireplace and enjoyed the majestic beauty of the lakefront and peace it brings. Can't wait to come up again!! Everything was clean and impeccable.

AERIE Eagles Nest Lodge
The cabin was very clean, floor plan was excellent the , basic necessities, papers, dishes, linens, towels, two refrigerators. were all there for use. The layout served well for our group of 14. The decks had great veiws and stair lighting was dead on. We had no problem with the water and didn't even worry about it. If a 42" Muskie, 4 Northern's between 14 and 27" and enough pan fish and walleye to choke a horse is what you like this is the place. The scenery in the back bays was fantastic. The stump danger in the lake should not be overlooked though. The wildlife we saw , deer by handful, porcupine, fox, all kinds of turkeys and even maybe a bear was enough for us. With a deer between buildings daily. The dock and fire pit were well located, The little sandy beach worked well for our grandkids, however a little more grass land would of been helpful. It was something to listen to the water as we went to sleep at night and wake up rested ready to go. There is a lot of stuff in the area to do that is free and fun. The small communities are with in 15 min of the cabin for supplies. The Holmes family would recommend it!

Great House, and had a wonderful time. A beautiful home and fully enjoyed the stay. The layout is great for large group or a couple of families. Everything very neat and clean. TV remote upstairs not working. Upgraded TV would be nice.
