About John Marsala

Always wanted a place for family and friends where outdoor activities abound. Love Utah and it's fabulous National Parks

John Marsala purchased this house in 2011

Why John Marsala chose Orderville

At Buffalo Ridge, you can truly get away from it all. The peace and beauty of this location is without equal. From the house, you can walk into Zion. The Grand Canyon is a 2.5 hour drive, Bryce a 75 minute drive, many other, off the track, State Parks are also close.

Springdale has become VERY crowded as the popularity of Zion has increased. During the busy months, April thru October, the parking lot at the West/Springdale entrance becomes full. People are directed to park in town!!

The advantages of being on the East side are:

1. Avoiding the crowds in Springdale

2. Having easy access to drive to Springdale for dinner; a wonderful 30 minutes drive

through the park!

3. Having easy access to Kanab, another beautiful drive of 35 minutes in the opposite direction. Kanab has the best restaurant in the area.

4. Easy access to Bryce. It is only a 75 minute drive from the house.

5. Easy access to the off-trail hiking of the East/high desert side of the park where you can hike down any of the numerous washes. You can explore areas where few others go!!

What makes this house unique

Buffalo Ridge is a beautiful home. We have chosen furnishing and conveniences to please the most discriminating tastes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

You can really "get away from it all". My partner and I kept commenting on how quiet and peaceful our stay at Buffalo Ridge was. The way the house is situated on the property gives you total privacy; the windows were open all the time!

Home was clean. Loved having three private bathrooms.

Drive to visitors center was longer than expected. However, the fees were fantastic. Loved our hike through the narrows.

Great Spot

  • 5 of 5

A couple of friends and I came to Zion to do some canyoneering just outside the park and this was the perfect location to access both the park (via east entrance) as well as the various slot canyons we explored on the eastern side of the park. Even though it was Memorial Day weekend, we barely saw any other people over 3/4 days. House is clean, has beautiful views and all the amenities you would want. Owner, John, gave us some good info and recommendations before we arrived as well. Highly recommend.

ps If you are looking for guided outdoor adventure trips, Red Desert Adventures is a great option for people staying on the east side of the park as they will meet you wherever you are staying rather than have you drive through the park into Springdale.

Fabulous place!!

The owner was super easy to work with and responded very quickly to questions. The house was exactly as pictured. Very comfy beds, clean and had all the needed amenities. We were a party of nine and were totally comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

We loved our stay at Buffalo Ridge

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at Buffalo Ridge while exploring Zion. The home is a fantastic place to stay. Safe, secure, convenient and extremely well equiped. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub (outside) while watching the sun go down. The host (John Marino) was extremely helpful and super responsive and has set up the property perfectly for visitors. For out of town (we are from Western Australia) folks, his organisation in the house was excellent with pretty well everything we needed (and more....this included a proper hot jug...really useful for Aussies who drink tea!). The information provided in his comprehensive guide was the best we have come across, covering everything from his favourite walks in Zion through to places to buy food or eat out in the area (and everything in between).

All in all, we would thoroughly recommend this property for families (and groups of friends) wishing to explore Zion and surrounds and we are very keen to return in the future. Worth mentioning that Zion (and the surrounding Slot Canyons) is a truly unique place that really is stunning.

An absolutely perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This house is a gem. It’s beautifully and very comfortably furnished with Western-style wood furniture and Native American art. The kitchen is fully equipped. The wrap-around porch looks out on the mountains, and the view of the stars from the hot tub at night is spectacular. The house is connected to the nearby Zion Ponderosa Resort, so there’s also access to all that the resort offers. We really liked the East Zion location. It was an easy and breathtaking drive into Zion National Park, as well as less than an hour and a half to Bryce National Park or to Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. We did some great hikes that weren’t too challenging: to Observation Point from the east side, Bryce, the walk to where the Narrows starts, Wirepass Trail and the slot canyon in Grand Escalante (stop by the BLM office in Kanab for updated trail information). John, the owner, was like a host in absentia. He sent detailed notes on the house and local activities before we arrived, checked in on how we were doing, and quickly responded by email to any questions we had. We've done many VRBO rentals, and John is certainly the most responsive owner we've experienced. My family and I can’t recommend this house and its location highly enough. A perfect trip!

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

When I reviewed the pictures online and booked the home, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived that they exactly captured the place. The views from the home were picturesque and it was a short drive away from Zion National Park. The homeowner was very accommodating and provided detailed information about what to expect and highly recommended trails in the park. I would happily recommend the place to my family and friends. It is a trip that we will remember for years to come.
