About this property

Rustic-Modern 1BR Lakeside Cottage for up to 5.

Relax in our 600 sq ft remodeled cabin in the Indian head region of Northern Wisconsin. This rustic-modern cabin has a 15' x 23' foot great room with a 15' ceiling and lots of windows overlooking Axehandle Lake. The kitchen is equipped with a full-sized stove, refrigerator, and microwave hood, and fully stocked kitchen ware. The quaint 12' x 14' bedroom has a queen sized bed, along with a twin over full bunk bed that can accommodate up to 5 individuals. The bathroom has a 36" shower, vintage sink vanity, and washer and dryer. If you enjoy an architectural look, with high ceilings, a mixture of oak and galvanized metal siding, and fresh white trim, then this is the place for you. The best part of the cottage is the 9' x 14' screened porch to enjoy the outdoors, listening to the wind whistling in the tall pine trees and looking over the lake below.

Non-motorized boats are available (canoe, 2 kayaks, and row boat) to explore the 86 acre lake that is clear and great for fishing or swimming. Life jackets and paddles/oars are provided. Or just sit down by the dock and fish off shore if you prefer in our vintage aluminum, webbed lawn chairs. In the evening relax by the fire pit, roasting s'mores, or inside playing games, watching movies (flat-screen TV with DVD, but no cable) or doing puzzles for a remote but relaxing vacation away from the everyday grind. Wifi is available, however. Note, we have it furnished and decorated as our vacation get-a-way, so not just the bare rental minimums you might find elsewhere! Contact us for any specific questions! We are happy to share our family retreat with you. Note - no smoking allowed!

Great Lake cabin!
We loved everything about the cabin - clean, comfy, and well equipped with anything you might need. The view of the lake is excellent and we enjoyed our 4th stay at the cabin. We'll be back...

Fall color extravaganza
Such a lovely weekend- the fall colors were amazing and other than the neighbor’s leaf blower it was blissful peace & quiet. Loved the cottage & the well stocked kitchen! Gorgeous morning light coming through those windows and really enjoyed taking the canoe out to tour the lake. We will be back!

Perfect fall getaway
We love this cabin. It was a cool, rainy weekend so we enjoyed cooking, playing games and talking. During a break in the rain two of us went kayaking. Just us and a pair of loons out! We’ll be back next year!

My mother, two brothers, sister, and I own this cottage that was built by my father's parents by hand in ~ 1951. After my father passed away in 2014, we decided to remodel this little 1 room cottage into something we could cherish and honor his and my grandparents' memories with. We have spent many weekends doing some of the work our selves (but had most of it done professionally!) and refinished several pieces of furniture to re-use in this space. We heard so many stories about the times my dad spent up here with his parents as a teenager, have memories of our own spending time up here in the past, and hope to create new ones going forward. We hope to share this respite with others to generate their own memories and find a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!

Why they chose this property

This cottage was originally built by my grandparents as a 1 room cabin in the early 1950's, without water or electricity. We have relocated the original structure back ~50' and added the great room addition, along with modern amenities to bring our family cottage into the current millennium.

It is conveniently located about 30 min north of Eau Claire, WI and is just 15 min from the cute resort town of Chetek, WI. Plenty of places to visit in the area, but we admit, we most enjoy just relaxing at the lake!

What makes this property unique

Enjoy the rustic modern decor, with sliding barn doors, oak farm table and oak ship-lap accent walls milled locally from the trees harvested when the cottage was relocated. Numerous antique and vintage items from my grandparents' home have been re-purposed and used to enhance the natural and timeless beauty of this little gem in the woods.
