The Yuba is a 'magical,' 'sun-hugged,' 'granite-lined' River just 10 minutes from Owl Lodge north of town. The South Fork of the Yuba offers trout fishing, Class V kayaking, and summer lounging as it flows through a granite gorge in the Sierra foothills. The river also offers excellent swimming options in season.

Mountain Biking

An amazing mountain-bike trail entrance that goes for 120 miles is just half a mile away. Five vineyards are less than 30 minutes from Owl Lodge and the “magical,” “sun-hugged,” “granite-lined” Yuba River is just seven miles away. The Nevada Theater, where Mark Twain read in the 1860s, still features monthly plays.

Owl Lodge is close enough to be atop a world-class mountain in less than an hour. The closest ski resorts, like Sugar Bowl, are just 50 minutes east on Donner Summit.

Here you'll find Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs, Boreal Mountain Resort and Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort. Another 15-20 minutes will take you to Northstar, Tahoe-Donner, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows and Steep Hollow.

We are pet-friendly as long as your pet is fully house trained and ask for a pet fee of $69 to pay for shampooing the rugs. The Lodge has access to a hiking trail and stream right from the property. Note the first 150 feet from property to the main trail is uphill on narrow informal path.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR POTENTIAL GUESTS TO KNOW Before you Book:

Our drive is gravel and gets steep at mid-point - 4 WD and All WD are recommended (and essential in Snow and ice conditions).

Front wheel drive cars with confident drivers familiar with driving on gravel are just fine!

Rear wheel drive cars are not allowed at the top because they damage our driveway.

There is parking at the mid-point -with a bit of a walk up hill.

We offer Internet TV _ that gets Netflix, Amazon, UTube HBO etc and DVDs and a DVD player - We do Not have cable.

The condition of the Lodge will reflect that it’s a Charming, Older building, think 'Grandmother's house'.

Most people love it (like we do)!

If you are a perfectionist and prefer remodeled - This is Not the place for you! (There are Much More expensive accommodations that can fit as many people as our Lodge - or much smaller remodeled accommodations at the same price which may meet your expectations.)

The Lodge reflects 1960’s values of energy saving - so the long hallway is not heated, and the two bathrooms while average size for the 60s may be considered small 50 years later.

Owl Lodge is in the midst of a forested natural area. Like all of Northern California - there are Poison Oak plants, Ticks, and other wildlife, bugs are also found on the property and entire Sierra region so take precautions when out of doors.

NOTE _ Owners live off site and are not usually there - but we may occasionally be on site at a separate private cottage during your stay.

BEST SWIMMING HOLE: 'Cliff jumps, nudist beaches, family-friendly sandbars--there are oodles of options' on the South Fork of the Yuba.
