A cozy and enchanting place close to so much!
When I found Deer Run online, I instantly fell in love. My husband and I are both nature lovers and this was the perfect little getaway we needed. The cottage is so cozy and inviting. It has everything you need and then some. It's tucked away, yet close and accessible to so much. Ruth and Simon were very kind and helpful. On Sunday, three does and a fawn came through the yard and one of our favorite mem

Cute cottage
The place was adorable and very close to everything you'd need. I loved the concrete flooring and the tall open windows. Ruth did a great job trying to think of everything you'd need. The shower, refrigerator, and kitchen appliances could use some extra attention as far as cleanliness is concerned. The bathroom shower mat and shower curtain have seen better days. The fridge needed to be cleaned and there was old coffee in the pot. I'm being picky. The main reason I like using VRBO is the privacy you get compared to other platforms or hotels. There appeared to be construction/other work happening while we there, so there were alot of cars and foot traffic. As a result, I didnt take advantage of the porch (also insanely hot weather), leaving the window coverings open, or exploring the grounds. But that was my decision. I think it would be more accurate to say that the main house, just across the driveway from the cottage, overlooks the beautiful pond. The cottage overlooks another structure beside the main house (where much of the work was occurring), although the pond can be seen from the cottage itself. All just footsteps away. I didn't expect all of the structures to be situated so closely, so I was disappointed in the lack of "privacy" that I had expected as it felt like more of a shared space even though we had the cottage to ourselves. Ruth was very responsive and respectful of our privacy. Overall, we had great stay at the cottage.

It's hard to believe this tranquil property in the woods is just 5 minutes from restaurants and stores, but there it is. Wonderfully relaxed and comfortable, just perfect for a couple or a single traveller. Our favorite thing was watching fireflies in the evening. Kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to eat in as much as you like. We'll definitely return when we come to visit family in the area. Ruth is a very gracious and responsive host.

I'm a caregiver to my mother and son. I have a degree in Culinary Arts which use to cook for my family and friends. We have four cats and two very friendly dogs. I enjoy going to the symphony, plays, movies, art showings, and being close to nature. I've been known to create stained glass, jewelry, and weld. My mom was an avid gardener at one time and hopefully you will see the splendor of her labor in our gardens. I'm getting ready to start some raised bed vegetable gardens this Spring. So I'm hoping to have the fruits of my labor to share with my guest. My top shows are: Outlander (books and TV), Game of Thrones (again books and TV), The Americans, Orphan Black, and Poldark.

Why they chose this property

Deer Run is very close to everything that you need, but we are tucked away. We have a pond with a gazebo to sit and enjoy nature. When you look out of some of the windows in the Guest Cottage, you feel like you are up in a treehouse. The woods are very close to the property. It is a very serene setting.

What makes this property unique

I fell in love with this property from the moment I drove up the tree lined driveway. I built the Guest Cottage with lots of huge windows so that you could feel like you were outside. Birds and deer come to visit. We have occasionally seen foxes and a bobcat. There is a table on the front porch where you can sit and have coffee. Deer Run is a short drive from Memphis, TN and everything it has to offer. Dining. Museums. Nightlife. Beale Street. Basketball. Elvis. Graceland. Botanical Gardens. Arboretum. Festivals. Sun Studio. Gibson Guitor Factory. Parks. Forest. Theatre. Symphony. Opera.
