Papakea resort is a 13 acres of lush tropical paradise. It is located in West Maui between the Kaanapali and Kapalua with world class golf resorts and minutes from shops, restaurants, and galleries in nearby Lahaina and Whalers Village. Make a left in front of the resort and you have access to miles of North Kaanapali beaches for walking (both beach walk and Board walk), snorkeling or paddle boarding.


You are renting through the OWNER directly. You know what you are renting and from whom. You get what you see, NORTH FACING END Unit E 310 in Building E on the 3rd floor with the panoramic ocean views along with the views of swimming pool, putting green, koi ponds with colorful fish and water fountains. Awesome.

To get a good sense of our condo and Papakea resort, please take a look at our photos. In addition to the photos, please also take a look at our video. To really get an objective view of this resort, this one bed room suite, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, our dealings with our past guests, please read the reviews from our past guests.

This condo faces NORTH. That means you can enjoy Lanai use ALL day. Keeping warm in Maui is not the problem in any season. However, keeping cool can be. This unit keeps you comfortable anytime of the day. When inside the unit, open the lanai sliding door and bedroom window and enjoy the cool ocean breeze and let the ocean waves lull you to sleep.

If you do end up renting this unit and I hope you do, please take a look at the all the lanais across you facing south. You will find very few hard core sun worshipers being roasted during the day. As I mentioned, keeping warm is not the problem. But keeping cool can be in South and West facing units. If like those kinds of unit, this one is not for you. You get sun only before noon.

By the way, we do have AC in the unit plus two fans, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, when you need them.

Another unique benefit of this unit - This is an end unit. So there is no walk way behind the unit by the bed room as would be the case for the rest of 9 units on each floor. What this means is that you don’t have to listen to inconsiderate guests who walk and talk past quiet hours of 10 PM.

Also, since this is an end unit, there is no wall on one side of the lanai for privacy from your neighbor. With no wall on one side, the breeze is amazing and you will love spending time on the lanai. We have one lounge chair and four dining chairs and a table in lanai (in addition to 4 chairs and glass table in the dining room). This will keep you cool even if it is hot outside.

This peaceful one bedroom 3rd floor suite comes with fully equipped kitchen and in-room washer/dryer for extra convenience. You will have a private furnished balcony, where you can relax and enjoy spectacular ocean view and cool breeze, 12 hole manicured putting green and garden, koi ponds with colorful fish right from your lanai.

Another cool feature of this this suite is that you can watch the ocean waves in the large wall mirror behind the sofa even when you are in the kitchen. It is really cool to see the real ocean when you look left and its image when you look right - really an unusual feeling.

The ocean views from the kitchen in the mirror wall behind the sofa and ocean views from the sofa are not shown in the photos. I plan to have new photos taken soon. I bought this unit recently and I am using photos I got from the previous owner. For now you have to take my word and depend on guest reviews.

Remodeled throughout, the unit has granite counter tops, cherry cabinets and custom touches and the living area has ample seating as well as cable TV and DVD player. There is an iHome in bedroom if you want to listen to your songs on your iPod/iPhone.

There is a dining table with seating for four inside, as well as seating for four on the private lanai. The kitchen is fully equipped with new dishes, cooking utensils, dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, microwave, blender, toaster, and coffee maker. This suite also has its own clothes washer and dryer so you can pack light.

The bedroom is nicely furnished with tasteful pictures, sliding 6 feet mirror closet doors. The bath room is fully remodeled with walk in shower.

All linens including large beach towels are provided. Hair dryer, iron and ironing board and beach chairs are also in the unit.


• The rental rates are for maximum of two adults even though this unit can accommodate additional two people if they can share the queen sofa bed.

• Additional persons may be allowed on exception basis at added cost of $15/person/night.


Like all resorts in West Maui, Papakea Resort collects a $17/night resort fee to cover parking, water aerobics, Yoga, pool/hot tub access, shuffleboard, cable TV, and Internet access etc. This fee is paid to the front desk at checkout for the first 10 days of your stay, per month (Maximum $170 for each month of stay).

Although nobody likes additional fees, including the owners since they must also pay the same $17/night resort fee, many of the other resorts in West Maui are in the $20 - $31/day range. So Papakea is below the average rate in this regard. You pay this fee to the front desk and not to me. But I want to make sure you know this and not find this out when you get there.

About Owner

An engineer in the electronics industry with long work history at Intel and Boeing and now a consultant for the last two decades and sheep farmer-a wonderful combination. Too young to retire and too old to work 9 to 5. Frequent visits to this Condo in Maui makes me feel really blessed. Hope you love this place as much we do and be one of our frequent guests to enjoy this paradise, we call Maui- voted the best island in the world (yes few times in the last decade).

Why Owner chose Lahaina

Even though we have lived in the beautiful Northwest (Seattle and now in Portland) for over 30 years now, you like to get away from the rain and cold sometimes. During my first visit ever to Maui in June 2011, I fell in love with Maui. After looking at all the options we have in Maui, I found Papakea to offer everything I was looking for, 2nd floor unit facing north with mesmerizing ocean views and palm trees.

What makes this condo unique

So close to the ocen with such a great ocean view from kitchen, dining, living and lanai. The view was definitely the clincher for me. You sit in your living room or lanai and be enchanted with the beaurty of ocean and swaying palm trees. The sky is different every time you look out

Quite a lovely place to call home

The papakea resort condo was just great. There were so many extras that made our stay wonderful. I noticed that it had new furnishings and quite a good supply of beach going items (the best chairs, boogie boards, noodles and even snorkel equipment). The kitchen was spectacular, every time I looked for something they had it. The layout was nice too. A very nice large TV, but we didn't use it much. The porch was great and what a wonderful view! We also enjoyed the resort and feel they are doing a good job keeping everything in top shape. They offered yoga classes in the morning and even had mats for us to use. We took advantage of cooking several meals down at the pool grills which were quite nice too. Overall a wonderful place that felt like a home away from home rather than a hotel.

Great Accommodations!

My husband and I stayed at Ray's unit Papakea E205 for 3 weeks from August 30, 2017 to September 20, 2017. The unit was exactly as described and shown in the photos. We felt very much at home. The kitchen was fully equipped and we made full use of it. The grills around the pool were great! We cooked out some and ate out some. The grills were cleaned daily as was the pool. Due to a medical situation we needed to change our original dates and Ray was most cooperative. He is a pleasure to work with. Although the temps were in the upper 80's during the day, we never used the A/C. We kept the lanai screen door open as well as the bedroom windows. So long as the trades were blowing, we were very comfortable. If we are ever able to return to Maui, we all certainly stay at Ray's units in Papakea again. Mahalo Ray.

Nasty Mold & Mildew! Very Disappointing Condo

We arrived in the evening on the first night we booked our stay at Ray's condominium in Papakea Resort to the smell of mold and mildew when we un-locked the door. Immediately we went to the windows to open them up and the curtains in both the bedroom and living room were black with mold and mildew. We called Ray directly after that and because it was almost 11:30 p.m. in Maui we left him a message knowing that he would not be able to respond until morning since he lives in the Pacific NW. When we woke up the next morning my husband reached Ray and told him of the black curtains in both the bedroom and the living room. Originally Ray was going to have them cleaned but he did send some resort personnel up to see the curtains while we were at the beach. He called us to confirm that the personnel had said also that the curtains were bad. When we returned to the condo they had sprayed them with some kind of cleaning material and bleach but the mold was still there. Over the next few hours Ray called us again about 4-5 times to tell us that he would instead have the drapes replaced because they could not come until the following week to clean them and he thought that they could successfully be replaced on Friday or Saturday. Although for health reasons that was a little long to wait we agreed that Friday or Saturday would be okay if they were in fact replaced. Well Friday and Saturday came and went and the curtains were still hanging there and they were not replaced. By this time, we were incensed because we were sleeping directly under these drapes in the bedroom where they hung over the Levolor windows and in the living area where they hung over the sliding glass doors. Both windows and doors had to be kept open for fresh air to take away the mildew smell and we are sure that mold and mildew spores were airborne as a result. On Monday morning, we rudely got a loud knock on the condominium door as well as the doorbell being rung at 9:00 am. When my husband answered the door, there were two gentlemen there with curtains for the bedroom (but not for the living room) to replace them. He told them that we did not know they were coming and just to leave since we were still sleeping and were already angry about the drapes not being replaced on Friday or Saturday. Mind you, this was already 6 DAYS into our vacation. So, said drapes were NEVER replaced and we were NEVER compensated for anything! Renter BEWARE!!!

Owner's Response: Mary’s complaint about mold and mildew is totally false and misleading. There are always two sides to any story. Here is my side of the story. I have owned this unit since 2011 and have received 45+ FIVE STAR reviews. You don’t get that kind of review if you are operating a mold infested vacation condo. I myself stayed in that unit a few weeks before Mary and everything was great. The guests who stayed before and after this guest also enjoyed the condo. So why would any guest write such a made-up review? Based on my very first conversation with Mary’s husband Tim, I got the feeling that he was making up complaints for money. This was confirmed by his second phone message and two emails demanding $1200 or they would write a bad review. I take all feedback from my guests seriously so I called Housekeeping as soon as I heard his message. Housekeeping found a stain on the drapes but it was against the wall and not visible from the room. They did not find any mold but I asked them to clean the condo anyway even though no cleaning was needed. After Housekeeping had cleaned the unit, I called the guest again and told him that I will replace the drapes. However, a few days later Tim called me again and left me a voice mail with a sprinkling of f-words threatening that since he is an expert in mold as a former OSHA employee he wanted $1200 BEFORE he arrived home. I did not pay him his ransom money of $1200 but I kept my appointment with the vendor to replace the drapes as promised. However, when the vendor showed up as scheduled, they told him to come back a few hours later. When the vendor showed up later, they did not let him in. So the poor guy wasted half a day and lost important appointments. The day after they checked out, I had the vendor come back and replace the drapes. I felt obligated to this vendor who had wasted half a day. In summary, the reason I have all these good reviews is that I take care of my condo and I go out of my way to take care of my guests. I did this for this guest too – had Housekeeping clean the unit again, sent him a box of chocolates and replaced the drapes with brand new drapes. Now you can enjoy those new drapes. Ray
