About the property

"Hollow Cottage" is a mid-century guesthouse nestled in the woods on our 3-acre property. Featuring old wood beams, new floors and a wood burning stove, the cottage is a true escape from it all. The fully functional kitchen and a large bedroom makes Hollow Cottage a perfect getaway. And we are only 1 1/2 hours from New York City

Located in beautiful Staatsburg, we are minutes from Rhinebeck and Hyde Park. Just minutes from the Omega Institute, Rhinebeck Aerodrome, FDR home, Vanderbilt Mansion, Culinary Institute of America, Bard, Vassar, Catskills and so much more!

The kitchen is equipped with all the necessities and all towels and bedding are provided. The wood stove is fully functional and we encourage you to use it. Wood is right outside the door. The house is heated by electric baseboard heats and there are easy to use thermostats.

A Pack 'n Play is in the closet and we'd love you to bring your baby and kids!

Plenty of board games for your enjoyment, but we've also got a 42in 4k TV with Apple TV. HBO, Showtime and Netflix are included. Complimentary Kiehl's bath products and a special treat when you arrive...

The cottage is located on a separate driveway from the main house. The cottage is accessed through a keypad lock, so you're welcome to arrive and depart when you want. We are in the main house a few weekends a month, but we'll stay out of your way. You are welcome to use the yard and walk around the woods at your leisure. And if you need something, drop us a line and we're happy to help!

Quiet and super comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We needed a post-Christmas respite and this was the perfect place for it. The temp outside barely reached 15 degrees for days but we stayed warm and cozy inside thanks to the amazing new wood stove. The cottage was stocked thoughtfully and tastefully right down to the Kiehls shower products. Bed was extremely comfortable too. We enjoyed a spa/Inn experience with the serenity, privacy and quiet of our very own space. The area is picturesque as well. Nice small town vibe. Already can’t wait to come back!

Charming and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely- clean, spacious, charming, convenient to Omega. Extra touches, like tea and coffee, as well as a nice collection of cookware make it very welcoming. Thanks for a great stay.

Quiet, charming retreat

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Hollow Cottage. The cottage was very clean, and unusually well-stocked with cooking items. The woods were right outside our windows. A short drive brought us to Rhinebeck for shopping and dining out. The quiet at night was amazing. Being lower than the roadway meant cell service was limited in the cottage itself, although fine once on the roadway. The only problem was intermittent Internet service, but the hosts quickly addressed the situation.

Good potential

  • 3 of 5

We never got an email with how to get into the home. The big issue was there is NO cell coverage there. So after getting up at 2:15 to catch our flight we were looking forward to a nap as soon as we got there. No such luck. We had to drive another 30 minutes to get service, email the owners, wait to hear back and then drive another 30 minutes back. After getting inside, there was a light musty smell that we thought would go away when we put the air on. The cottage has had several updates that were very well done. It was very disappointing to see several spiders with established webs and even discarded carcasses in them. The most impressive one was in the kitchen. I get that we were in the woods, but I had far fewer bugs in my tent during my last camping trip. Earwigs, moths, spiders and several other unidentified 6-leggers. There are two window AC units. One up and one down. The one up is right behind the very comfortable king bed. To combat the humidity, we had it set on a low temp. It kicked on/off all night. There was something related to the AC unit that sounded like clapping sticks that prevented sound sleeping. The kitchen is small but works well. Enough comforts of home to make out. If you do decide to cook during your stay, provision before you arrive. You'll have a fair amount of time driving round trip if you don't. It rained some over two days. The parking are is the low point that you'll encounter when coming and going. It looked like it was a little gushy when we arrived. As we were there for a wedding, we had formal clothes on. I pulled close to the door. This strategy worked well because it rained again overnight. The parking area was completely underwater. Internet was spotty.

I think it would be a better fit for us in the fall/winter time when the bugs are gone, the wood stove could be used and the ground is firmer

Owner's Response: Really sorry you guys didn’t have an enjoyable stay! We are extremely embarrassed and sorry that you didn't get the arrival information, and we totally own up to that. The cottage is very busy this time of yeah and we made a mistake. Plain and simple. But to explain: We had thought you had the information. Prior to your stay, you had emailed us numerous questions, including asking us for the best route to get to the cottage from the airport and if we had an iron. We answered your questions promptly and in great detail and we assumed all was set. If you didn’t have the arrival information and were worried about it, we just wish you’d have asked for it… So to future guests, if you have a question, we LOVE helping and telling you about the area and if we forgot something, we'll make it right. We are sorry about the spiders, we make every effort to clean the cottage, but even a couple of days of sitting empty as it had prior to Rob’s arrival means that they can get it. As of July 1, 2017, we’ve engaged a pest control service to do a spray of the exterior of the house. This will hopefully mitigate the spiders (and is not toxic). I also want to respond to the cell phone reception comment. There absolutely IS cell reception on the property. It is certainly WEAK if you have ATT, but I want anyone to know who is thinking of staying at our (otherwise 5-star) reviewed cottage that no one else has ever had problems making text messages from the property. And certainly no one had to drive 30 minutes to get a strong signal to make a call. Again, sorry you had such a bad experience, we are always working to make it better and appreciate your critiques.
