Built with accents from old-world European country houses, DerTannenhof Lodge boasts 2700sqft of living space set among mature Douglas firs amidst a back-drop of the Cascades. Located 17mi from Crystal Mountain ski resort and 10mi from the north Mt. Rainier National Park (Sunrise) entrance the area provides endless outdoor possibilities. The lodge sleeps 10 comfortably with a max of 12. The main floor has a kitchen with all amenities, eating area, dining and living room, a generous master with a log king + full bath, and another full bath for the common areas. The upper floor has a loft including a twin and pull-out and a TV/DVD, a 2nd BR with a log queen + twin, and 3rd BR with a full bed. Enjoy a fire in the vaulted great-room, kitchen or out on the knoll overlooking the river. The house has a spectacular deck with gas grill perfect for dining or relaxing, and of course the hot-tub is so nice after a day of play. There is a basketball half-court, and abundant fire wood. Elk (with fawns in spring) frequent the backyard regularly taking advantage of the grass.
DISCLAIMER: This is a property located in the mountains in a semi-remote location. Loss of electricity, wifi, sat TV are possible and not always quickly repairable. Also, there are a variety of animals (elk, squirrels, birds, bats, mice, etc) in the area - as with any country property occasionally there is the "cohabitant". Events as listed above and anything imaginable are rare but do happen. Finally, I will do my best to accommodate, repair, assist and restore but again due to the remote location I may or may not be able to assist or find a helper to assist.
My wife and our children (now 8, 10, 12, 14 and 21) and I frequent this peaceful retreat. Our favorite activities include skiing, sledding (the forest service roads will allow for over 1/2 mi continuous sledding), hiking, hanging out in the hot tub, fires (...hot dogs/brats, smores, bread), fishing one of the many mountain lakes (rainbow trout) playing in side streams of the White River, and watching wildlife. And when raining there are puzzles, board games & cards, movies, and napping!
I live, work and play all in a pretty small radius. Taking off on my mountain bike from the house, climbing Chinook pass on my road bike, exploring the area via forest roads on my on/off road enduro motorcycle. And of course skiing Crystal Mountain is as good as it gets. I really enjoy sharing this property and hearing the adventures that people have.
Not many other homes in the area have a view of the mountains, a river front fire-ring (the pacifying noise of the river is amazing), with unique old-world European architectural accents and can accommodate 8-12 so comfortably. Some call it the 'ginger-bread house' because the snow can give it that appearance.
We loved our time here! It is just what we were looking for.
Great cabin, very comfortable for a large group. The kitchen/dining setup was perfect for family meals and we enjoyed walking down by the river and relaxing in the hot tub after a day of skiing.
Had everything we needed and then some. It was beautiful and cozy. Owner very helful and responsive!
Really nice home and a perfect place to rest and relax after a full day of skiing. It has everything you need to enjoy family and friends. We intend to return next year.
Very well kept, great amenities and super spacious!! We were 4 adults and 3 kids and we had more than enough room. This is the 3rd cabin we have stayed at when coming to crystal and by far this has been the best! Would love to stay here again!
This is a lovely piece of heaven nestled in the PNW, just a mere 20 minutes from crystal mountain, and is well worth staying at. From the toys, books, fireplace, views of the river, fully stocked kitchen, to the picturesque trails surrounding the property and steamy hot tub right out the deck , I was reluctant to leave to return to my own Hawaiian paradise! I will be back!!!
