Incredible Romantic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We can’t say enough wonderful things about this special casita sitting at the edge of a box canyon with an incredible view of the mountainous landscape. The canyon was teeming w life and we woke to the sounds of birdsong every morning. Gardens on the property are remarkable and Mac was very responsive - answered my call on the second ring. Simply Lovely!!

Comfort, Quiet and Great Shower

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the casita from March 4 to March 11, 2018 and enjoyed every minute. It is a sophisticated, attractive and warm house with comfortable seating in the living room, a very comfortable bed and large shower - great pressure and temperature. We enjoyed the privacy of wrap-around porch and outside patio area on the bedroom side of the house. While we didn't do a large amount of cooking the kitchen had more than adequate pans, coffee maker, tea kettle, utensils, etc. We typically pack light greatly appreciated the washer, dryer, iron and ironing board provided. The owners live on the property and were very gracious, kind and unobstrusive. However, if you need something all you have to do is ask. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return. I would add that any noise from the pet resort is minimal, sporadic and of limited duration.

Good find!

  • 5 of 5

This property is in the same location as the owners. So, you are neighbors! Tricia and Mac were very sweet and helpful with local recommendations. They also leave you alone to enjoy the quiet of this location. The fireplace is gas but puts out a lot of heat and ambiance. Kitchen is full service, although it is lacking in some (good) cooking pans. I am tall and the bed was fine for me. Plenty of windows and a view. It was a great choice for my girlfriends birthday weekend.

Exceeded our expectations

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was just wonderful. The casita is the perfect hideaway we were looking for. The view of canyon and mountains in the distance gives you a feeling of privacy. The yard area has a fountain with the beautiful sound of water running. The casita is complete with everything we needed and having the washer and dryer made packing to come home so simple. We will return to this restful retreat.

5 STAR! Exceeded all expectations- private, beautiful, well equipped, comfortable- great location

  • 5 of 5

Can't say enough good things about this one. Windows/doors/deck overlooks a canyon so you get great views especially at sunrise and sunset or you can close the curtains for sleeping in. They have several outdoor seating areas that overlook the canyon and provide outdoor viewing of sunrise and sunset as well. Owners respect your privacy but are very quick to respond if you need anything or have any questions. Bed is very comfy, linens and towels are all luxurious, kitchen is well equipped, there is a grill on the large wrap around deck and the deck has seating. Deck has gates if you have small dogs, plenty of dog walking and roaming area. Located within 3 miles or so short drive to the beach, even closer to trader joes, sprouts, and anything you might need. This Casita was built with thought, several touches such as skylight, vaulted ceilings, ceiling fans, amazing huge shower, shower head adjust vertically and as a hand held wand, shower has a great seat built in with a private window and a light in the shower, the medicine cabinet has mirrored door on both sides (great for putting on make-up for those of us that need to see close up), double oven, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot, dishwasher, coffee bean grinder, books galore, netflix, pandora, roku, TV in bedroom and living room, it even has a washer and dryer if you are staying for awhile. House is very peaceful and grounds are lovely. We spent 4 days over Christmas there and would book this one again without hesitation.

The Casita in Encinitas is a comfy home base for relaxation, eating, shopping, beaches...

  • 5 of 5

The Casita was a pleasant place to stay, not within walking distance to the beaches, but a short drive away. It is an excellent base for exploring the beach towns along Highway 101. Access to shopping and restaurants is abundant and a quick and easy drive north along El Camino Real from this property. I loved Isabelle Brien's French Pastry Shop for breakfast near the CVS Pharmacy at the corner of Encinitas and El Camino Real.

The small Casita has a spacious feeling with bright natural lighting, raised ceilings and an efficient, open layout. Views of the canyon from the east-facing deck are very peaceful making this a good spot to hang out in the morning. An oversize leather sofa and chair make for a very comfortable, inviting living area. The bed was extremely comfortable with a great mattress, plenty of pillows and wonderfully scented linens. You could spend hours luxuriating in the gigantic tiled shower with plenty of hot water delivered under strong pressure -- no conservative trickle here! A big window in the shower with a view of the surrounding landscape seems private enough, but who knows for sure about that. The well-equipped kitchen has all sorts of dishes (we managed to cook a full Thanksgiving dinner here!) and good quality operating appliances, including a full-size washer & dryer. TV's and cable services were great in both the living room and bedroom.

A couple areas for improvement: the furnace was not functioning the first chilly night of our stay. A repair could not be made for a week so limited heat was provided by the gas fireplace and a big down comforter. Fortunately after two days the weather changed with an unseasonable heat wave and lack of heat became a non-issue. Barking dogs from the kennel uphill from the Casita occasionally disrupted the peace, especially in the morning at feeding time. An angry female attendant constantly yelling at the dogs to keep quiet was actually more disruptive than the animals. Based on my impression that the kennel staff was not very caring or even dog-friendly, I would hesitate to board my pet at the Alcala Pet Resort.

Communication with the Casita owner before our visit was very good. Since the owner's house is next door to the rental property, any needs during our stay were easily met. We found the owners very personable and non-intrusive during our stay. We would recommend this VRBO to others and hope to stay here again ourselves.
