64 is a unique balance of colonial and modern architecture located in the UNESCO-protected historic centre (Centro Historico) of Merida, and is ideally situated just four blocks from Parque Santa Lucia and from the main square.
The architect has retained the Colonial facade, and created a modern and contemporary interior. The tilework is an example of how the architect has created a modern property which still references its historical and contextual background - the tilework on the living room and master suite floors, and the kitchen backsplash is a traditional Yucatecan design which has been modified and updated so that it is a simpler two-tone design.
Henry Ponce won the Architectural Digest Award for 'Icons of Design' for Casa 64. Henry is well-known for his ability in blending colonial and contemporary styles. The video attached to this listing shows the flow of the house (note the furniture has changed since this video was shot).

As a couple of Canadians edging toward the dream of retirement, we're always looking for a great warm place in the winter to get away from our busy lives. We love great architecture, design, art and comfortable spaces where we can relax and entertain friends/family.
Peter Curry purchased this house in 2012
Merida is authentic Mexico - and this house is at the center of it all. We get to Merida as often as we can and wanted an easy, spectacular rental property we could call our own. This house certainly fits the bill.
Henry Ponce designed this house for himself, not for a client, and won awards for his innovation and execution. Just as we were when we first walked in, guests are equally impressed by his thoughtful design touches and the way the house is furnished and outfitted.
The architect, Henry Ponce delivers on the design details. A perfect balance of old colonial and contemporary features blends to an open, airy concept that works! Many houses of Merida are dark but Casa 64 offers open spaces with wide open doors (spare bedroom with a glass wall that completely opens beside the pool!) and multiple covered and uncovered patios.
The two king beds are the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in (I travel a ton and know good/bad beds), the bedrooms are spacious and ensuite are beautifully appointed.
The house is only four blocks from Plaza Grande, Merida's central and largest square. The same distance from Parc Santa Lucia. A couple blocks further and you find yourself in the main market. Its central location means you absolutely don't need a car for your vacation....and yet there is parking right next door if you have a rental car arranged to see the many sites in the surrounding area (cenotes, Mayan ruins, Tulum, Uxmal, Chelum, Progreso...).
We really enjoyed staying there. We weren't sure we were going to like it after staying in a renovated colonial, but we really did. The design is stunning, and we particularly liked the furniture, which was much more comfortable than what we had in the other house, particularly the beds and pillows. The towels were great too. The fact that there were several outdoor spaces where one could go and read was nice for a group -- we each had our own private space. The outdoor furniture was high quality and there was a lot of it, so we could each have a lounge, couch or chair, which wasn't true in many of the homes we looked at.
Isabel met us and showed us around the house, and we thought she was terrific -- very thorough and action-oriented. Based on our experience at the other property, your property managers were much better.
We visited Chichen Itza very early one morning before the crowds arrived and the kids were lamenting the fact that they couldn't climb the pyramids which we had done many years earlier. We went to Ek Balam which is another group of ruins where you can still climb, and they really enjoyed it. We also went to the cenote that they have on site, which was much more adventuresome than others we've visited in the past. We didn't pay the extra fees, but when we arrived at the cenote itself, the guides allowed everyone to do the Tarzan swing which was a bit of a thrill for we old people
Casa 64 exceeded our expectations. Peter, the owner, responded quickly to any questions we had, provided guidance as to activities, and was represented by a local agent who was always available and ready to help.
Overall, a good stay. The place looks just like the pictures--very spacious and comfortable, and very centrally located. The pool was especially welcome, as our days were very warm. Our only real problems were several nights of surging heavy-beat music until about 2:00 am and two power outages which meant no a/c or fans for one night. But things do happen--anywhere--and , again, the pool was there to cool us off.
All communications regarding this rental were prompt and accurate, and the local staff were pleasant and accomodating. Thanks for everything.

We stayed here as a family of four and loved it. The pictures don't do the house justice - it's an amazing oasis right in the center of Merida (within 3 blocks of Santa Lucia and lots of restaurants). Great use of space, nice furnishings, perfect size pool, and very quite while being in the middle of everything. Additionally Peter, Leonor, and the rest of the folks who helped us were fantastic. Great experience all around
I took my mom for her birthday to Merida and stayed in this beautiful home. It is a great place to stay, central to everything. The pictures do not do it justice as it is soooo much better in person. It is a quiet oasis with top of the line amenities and extremely private. Peter and Leanor had flowers and fresh fruit waiting which was a super nice touch. I plan on making this an annual trip. Thanks for making this a great trip.
We can't say enough good things about this wonderful home and the fantastic property manager Leonor. We wanted for absolutely nothing during our stay. The pristine condition that the home is kept in speaks volumes about the owners and the top knot management company. I have rented homes from several other companies in Merida prior to this trip but nothing held a candle to this trip. Most highly recommended!
We spent 3 glorious weeks in Merida at Casa 64. We fell in love with the city, and our home away from home. The house is superbly located being in the heart of everything. Beautifully decorated, it offered the best of indoor outdoor living. The kitchen was well equipped for anyone who loves to cook. Because of the unseasonally hot weather, the pool was the perfect place to be during the heat of the day. Our only problem with Casa 64 was that we had to leave! We look forward to returning.
