About this property

Carriage House;Bluff Views;Trails;Pet Friendly;Sewanee;Monteagle;The Caverns

Need a break from the stress of city life? Do you enjoy outdoor activities? Come to the Cumberland Plateau and stay at the Carriage House. If you love hiking, cycling, and outdoor activities you can do them here or practically anywhere in a thirty-mile radius, in which numerous waterfalls are located. South Cumberland State Park Visitor and Information Center is about 7 minutes away. The park, which includes Sewanee Natural Bridge, Fiery Gizzard Trail (ranked in the top 25 by Backpacker), Foster Falls, Savage Gulf, Stone Door, Greeter Falls, Meadow Trail and Grundy Lakes has some of the most noted hiking trails in the country. The Mountain Goat Trail, between Sewanee and Monteagle, is also a lot of fun. If you truly need to relax, go no further than the gardens and trails of the Carriage House. We are nestled approximately 1.5 miles from Highway 56 on part of a 400-acre farm. The Carriage House is the end of the trail and is quiet and peaceful. The butterfly garden attracts many visitors. It is filled with butterfly bushes, bee balm, lantana, phlox, lilies and of course, butterflies. Hostas, trilliums, and columbine make up the shade garden. Red Bud, dogwood and river birch are beautiful spring, summer, and fall. A short walk away is the duck pond. Hopefully, you'll also see a visiting Blue Heron, eagle, deer or turkey. We have built a cabin on the pond, you can watch the fish jump or other wildlife from the porch, fish from the jetty or pitch horseshoes on the dam. We've also added a picnic area with a firepit in the cabin area. From the pond, walk up the trail and visit our geese, Johnny and June, or go in the other direction to Buzzard Rock with its spectacular view of the gulf and Payne's Cove. We welcome a single pet at no extra charge, please let us know, we have lots of animals that could be impacted by a leashless dog. We've added a deck to the entrance for fresh air for your pet.
Are you music lovers? In March 2018, Bluegrass Underground began performances in its new home, the Caverns, at the foot of Monteagle Mountain. The Caverns showcases the two best things about Tennessee: our natural beauty and our music. The Caverns is a full-fledged music venue hosting performances year-round. Several of these concerts will air across the nation on PBS channels. Bluegrass Underground is a short, scenic drive down the mountain.

Great location and beautiful property
This wonderful property is located within very reasonable driving distance to great restaurants and other amenities in both Sewanee and Monteagle. Access to Parks and hiking trails is excellent. The property itself has a wonderful short trail with amazing bluff views and a charming duck pond. Visiting the Longhorns was fun too. The home's gardens and flowerbeds were just coming out for spring but I imagine they would be fabulous in the summer. We were traveling with our 11 month old Standard Poodle, Apollo, who gives 5 starts to everything about the woods, accommodations, and his new friends Dom and Bonnie! This place could not be more pet friendly and we surely appreciated the romps with the pups and an opportunity to throw sitcks and tennis balls to their delight. The DeLoziers were just a friendly as they can be.

Wonderful
Wonderful was the first word to come to mind. The property is lovely. We could have spent a whole trip just enjoying it and all there was to explore The carriage house is very comfortable. Felt as if I was in my own home. The animals were the icing on the cake. The dogs were amazing. They were eager to show us around the property and share their happy lives with us. There was a very friendly cat who was happiest sitting in our lap on the porch. We enjoyed the chickens and longhorns as well. We definitely hope to return one day. Perfect for a weekend or longer. We couldn’t have asked for better.

We absolutely loved The Carriage House!!
Traveling on a month-long road trip, one of our stops was a concert at The Caverns. Looking for a place close to the venue, we booked the charming Carriage House. We couldn’t have chosen a better place. Situated on a lovely farm with so many delightful features- a hiking trail with a lookout bluff, a scenic pond, gardens, and even long-horned steers. The apartment we stayed in was cozy, clean and so comfortable. And had everything we needed! The owners/hosts were ver accommodating and just super people!! We would highly recommend The Carriage House to anyone passing through this lovely countryside. We hope to be back one day!

About the host

My wife and I are retired teachers. She has several piano students and, in fact, the Carriage House is her music studio when we have no guests. We love animals. That's why we have dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, and fish. Our two outside dogs, a Great Pyrenees, and a German Shepherd have important jobs. They greet the guests and protect the property. Although we still hear coyotes, Roxie and Charley are always on the job, keeping them away. We had miniature donkeys, Lizzie and Sadie but they recently went back to their original home to start families of their own.

Why they chose this property

We've dreamed of a home on the bluff for years and 10 years ago we built our house. We are living our dream.

What makes this property unique

Seclusion. We live almost two miles from the highway, with no through traffic, one neighbor across the creek, bluff views and miles to walk in all directions.
