Michael’s Run Farm is a secluded and tranquil country estate on a mile wide stretch of the Susquehanna River. The farm is nestled among rolling hills of old growth forest, pastures and cornfields. We offer an ideal setting for family gatherings, reunions, or corporate retreats. Currently the farm is not available for weddings.

For those who wish to unwind the farm offers idyllic countryside. Sit on the porch enjoying panoramic views and listen to leaves rustling in the breeze.

By night hear the call of a distant coyote or lay on the lawn, gazing at an ink black sky peppered with stars.

For those who prefer activities the farm offers walking, hiking, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing, volleyball, badminton and table tennis.

The explorers among you may visit a variety nearby attractions including day trips to Lancaster, York, Baltimore, Philadelphia or Washington DC.

Tour the Amish country, local farmer's markets, country fairs and craft shows. Visit historic Gettysburg or Annapolis. Go outlet shopping. Drive the scenic Brandywine River Valley. The Chesapeake Bay region offers quaint towns, restaurants and sailing.

Farm Description

The 7,500 square foot main farmhouse accommodates up to 16 people with 6 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. There are two living rooms, a games and TV area, dining room, gourmet kitchen, covered porch and in ground swimming pool. Every room looks out onto the farm with not a neighbor in sight.

For those interested in history; our family are the second owners since Lord Baltimore and William Penn. The Cooper Family owned the farm for hundreds of years where it served as a plantation. While hiking the premises you will find the family cemetery, a slave cemetery, former slave quarters, and several barns and outbuildings on the property some of which date back to the 1700s.

Our Annual Thanksgiving Week on The Farm

This is our third year in a row of coming together at Michael's Run Farm. Our families come in from Chicago, Pittsburgh and Manhattan. We all love the abundant space, gas grills, fireplaces, hiking trails, and feeding the horses.

Ryan, the farm manager who lives on the property was very helpful and ready to make sure that the firewood and propane tanks were all ready for grilling our 2 big turkeys.

This year the night sky was so crystal clear that we took the children out at 9:30 at night to lay on the grass and gaze up at the sky. They saw the Milky Way, ( called the juicy way by our 4 year old grandson, Charlie, the Big Dipper, and Orion's’s a very special place to be for city kids who haven’t seen the sky filled with so many stars.

Perhaps it is a draw back that stores are not close by and it takes 20-60 minutes to get to but we think of it as a plus! We were focused on family and the spirit of being together.

I’d highly recommend The Farm! It’s a magnificent setting and we look forward to returning next year!

Scapegoats for End of Summer Season Repairs?

My family and I have been renting vacation properties for 10+ years. This is the first time it was recommended we buy insurance at booking and this is the first time that we are having issues.

We (8 adults and 6 kids) stayed August 26 through September 2 (last week of the summer season). The kids loved riding their bikes, playing sports on the grass, and just being kids (ages 4-8). On September 27 (almost a month after vacating the property) I received pictures and ridiculous damage charges. Ex: $25 for chalk marks, $200 for tire tracks on the grass, etc…

In addition, we are held accountable for items that were already damaged. Ex: $50 for the grill igniter, $100 for torn paint in one of the bedrooms, etc… The homeowner is holding us responsible for $600 in damages.

I did not take pictures nor report any other issues that we came upon during the week (there was also no WIFI, outside garbage cans were overflowing, kitchen drawer was broken) because I did not give it a second thought plus I was enjoying my vacation. Renting houses for so many years, things are never perfect and stuff deteriorates. It’s normal and understandable.

Currently, the homeowner has filed a claim with the insurance and is holding my deposit. I have no leverage so we will be bearing the loss.

Owner's Response: I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. We have never taken advantage of our renters. We take care to make sure our property is kept in great condition so that all of our guests can enjoy their time at Michael's Run Farm. When we are informed of issues/concerns upon a guest's arrival, we take care of them immediately. The damages listed were all submitted to the insurance company and 95% of those damages were covered. This is the main reason we require the policy, to cover our guests as well as ourselves. Your security deposit has since been returned and I believe all of your concerns have been addressed. Fabulous place for a family getaway.

Michael's Run is beautiful, clean and well supplied with all you need for a relaxing vacation. We had a catered dinner provided by Ryan that was over the top fantastic. The property surrounding the house was fun to explore, the fishing from the dock was great and the pool provided hours of entertainment for the kids and adults in our party. I have zero complaints other than the speed at which the week flew by. Wonderful!

3 Generations having fun together

Our whole family ( 10 adults, and 5 children ages 3 months to 13 years) had a wonderful and memorable time at Michael's Run! We went swimming in the pool every day. We fished from the dock and had s'mores at the campfire . We went kayaking and swimming in the mighty Susquehanna River- breathtaking beauty at sunset! The 3 levels for sleeping worked perfectly for us, and there was room to gather together and also to find a quiet spot at times. Thanks for a terrific time, we made many happy memories!
