About this property

The Behrends Cabin at Agarita Creek, Fredericksburg, TX Ranch Retreat, 2/1

The Behrends Cabin is one of two German chink style log cabins located at Agarita Creek, a 170 acre heritage sheep ranch just ten minutes from the heart of Fredericksburg, Texas, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The approximately 1200 sq. ft. two story cabin, completed in 2009, features an exposed log interior, stained concrete floors, a wooden cathedral ceiling, rustic pine furniture, Talavera tile from Mexico, and Indian blankets. The cabins reflect and respect all of the various peoples who have called this land home.

There is a living and dining area and a fully-equipped modern kitchen with stoneware, silverware, cookware, and just about every kind of kitchen gadget you can imagine. One bedroom is located downstairs, as is a full bath. There is a large sleeping loft upstairs, substantially the same size as the downstairs bedroom. All beds are queen size. The Behrends Cabin sleeps four.

Agarita Creek is a retreat from the everyday. There is no television service to the cabins, although there are small televisions for watching movies (and there is a supply of movies in the cabin as well). There are board games and books for that rare hill country rainy day. There is internet service to the main house and probably to your smart phone. There is no wireless internet service to the cabin. There is no telephone, other than your cell phone (should you choose to bring it)..

Just outside the front door is an ample porch running the width of the cabin, which is perfect for watching the sun set over the beautiful creek canyon below. The cabin has its own fire pit for late night campfires. A grill is available for guest use.

The ranch is home to heritage Jacob and Navajo sheep, a small herd of Dexter cows, a wide array of chickens, four donkeys, and a livestock guardian dog named Beatrice. Children are encouraged, and children of all ages are invited to engage in ongoing ranch activities if and as they wish.

The ranch terrain is varied, and provides ample opportunity for walking, hiking, or just observing wildlife and flora and fauna. The ranch features white-tail and axis deer, Rio Grande turkeys, rabbits, a large variety of birds, and the occasional bobcat. Virtually every tree or shrub native to the Edwards Plateau exists somewhere on the ranch.

Fredericksburg is the most popular tourist destination in the Texas Hill Country, with its many vineyards and wineries, unique shopping and restaurants, vibrant live music scene, world class historical museum, and outdoor recreational opportunities. Visitors never lack for something to do, unless they choose to do nothing but take in a little rest and relaxation.

What gratifies us is that our guests tend to return again and again over the years, considering the ranch to be their home away from home whenever they visit the hill country. This is the only real accurate measure of our success in sharing a place that is so special to us.

Eclipse and vacation stay
We absolutely loved the quietness of the place and the far calming view from the front porch. Birdsong was relaxing. House is lovely decorated and we'll definitely try to get those cute bunny curtains from the farm shop. :-)

Wonderful sunset views
The location impresses with it's great views of the landscape and quietness all day and night. Only hearing the birds and armadillos is such a relaxing experience. Still proximity to Fredricksburg for authentic Teas small town living.

Spring Break Getaway
My family of 8 adults, 2 kiddos, and one baby had a wonderful time! We reserved both cabins. We were warmly greeted by Beatrice, the Great Pyrenees, and the two donkeys! Both cabins are very tastefully appointed and have super comfy beds. The kitchens are stocked with everything you might need. It is so cool to be on a real working ranch. The kiddos got to feed the chickens and we watched the sheep come running for their dinner. Beautiful Texas Hill Country as far as you can see. Quiet star filled nights and gorgeous sunrises will ease the city out of you. Though out in the country, the drive to town is short so you won't miss out on in town activities. Highly recommend!
