Rustic, family, waterfront cottage, on a private, protected cove offers peace and quiet. This cottage has been in our family for almost 40 years providing a relaxing vacation escape for all. Wildlife abounds in this natural setting with almost daily sightings of loons, great blue herons, muskrats, woodpeckers, chipmunks and turtles. Endless hours can be spent exploring the cove by canoe or kayak. The protected cove offers a safe place for kids to try their hand at canoeing while within sight of home. There is a bunk house,or 'bunkie' about 40 feet from the main cottage where kids enjoy staying, allowing adults their own space in the evening hours.

About Tim Horn
My two siblings and I grew up in Ohio. Our family purchased the cottage in the early 70's when our mother was a teacher, and we spent the summers of our youth at the cottage, swimming, fishing and boating.
Tim Horn purchased this Cottage in 1973
Why Tim Horn chose Gravenhurst
We spent our summers at the cottage, but now that we live so far away, we are unable to visit as often as we'd like. It holds such cherished memories that we can't bear to sell the place, so have decided to rent it during the weeks that it would otherwise go unused.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Severn River offers the unique opportunity to endlessly explore the river in either direction, while maintaining the overall look and feel of a lake. When you hear the word 'river' many people immediately assume there is a strong current and moving water. There of course is a current but it is only detectable in the few, narrow areas of the river. At our location the river is about a quarter mile wide with no noticeable current. Our cottage is on a protected cove which offers cover from the wind and waves of more open water locations.

Peaceful tucked away location
Very nice setting. Cottage is old school with retro furnishings. Not suitable for swimming, in a very weedy bay. Great fishing. Could use some updating, but overall happy with the experience there!
Many of the furnishings are from 1967 when the cottage was built. There is a certain charm that comes with that, but we are planning some upgrades to the kitchen soon. The bathroom was remodeled a few years ago.
As for swimming, our cove is too weedy and shallow for a good swim. Guests are welcome to use the Edwards' floating swim dock, anchored in deep water. It is just a short canoe ride away, and is available anytime.
Nice get away
Nice location, set back in a bay.
Just what we needed for some much needed R&R.
Cute, comfortable and rustic.
Very peaceful, quiet and tranquil cottage on a secluded mini bay. Cute and comfortable rustic would be the best way to describe it. Nice to see some upgrades being done, but nice also to see the original character and generations of memories built into this relaxing place.
We would give this property a five star but the cabin itself is very rustic making it a four star. That being said it was very clean. It was perfect for our five days of fishing. We caught enough fish for a feast of fish on our last evening. The sunrise and sunset are worthy of a five star as well. Will hopefully get a chance to vacation here again in the future!
We had a great time! The rustic, cottage is very private and secluded. The nights were peaceful and quiet. It was very relaxing stay. Other than our resident ducks that visited every day we didn’t see much wildlife. Our 2 dogs splashing around in the water may have had something to do with that :). We enjoy the natural landscape; we often canoed out into the cove to watch the spectacular sunsets. We also enjoyed the paddle boat.
We canoed out to find a nice place to swim as the cottage shore line is better suited for fishing. The lily pads are abundant and a natural feeding area for fish. Our children being young it was easier than pulling the swimming dock out where the water is clearer.
The 'bunkie' was handy when we had company for a few days. Our oldest boy (5 years) enjoyed sleeping out there with his aunt. Unfortunately our stay was cut a few days short because our youngest (2 years) developed a fever and we wanted to be closer to medical attention. Part of the beauty is its secluded quietude but the slow winding gravel road to get in would not make for a quick escape.
All in all it was a great relaxing vacation. If you’re looking to get away from it all, this is the place. It has full kitchen amenities, a nice new bathroom, and comfortable beds while being rustic and peaceful. Great place to brings dogs!
Calm Lakeside Haven
We spent a number of very relaxing days at the cabin at the start of our two week holiday visiting from the UK. Our days here were in fact the highlight of our entire trip.
Many hours were happily lost watching wildlife, sitting on the dock in the sunshine, canoeing, swimming and reading (in the hammock). We were glad to have not encountered any bear but sad not to see any flying squirrels!
We really loved the clean, laid back cabin interior and the simplicity of the facilities (especially the fact that there is no wifi!), although the new bathroom and hot running water were much appreciated!
The local towns provided a good selection of grocery and beer stores, plus a number of restaurants.
The owners were super helpful answering questions, providing directions and other useful information. It was fantastic to read the guestbooks and glimpse into the Horn family's long history at this special place.
We hope to stay again in the future if we visit Ontario another time.
Thanks for everything!
About 2 hours north of Toronto, off Highway 11, the cottage is located on the Severn River, across from Morrison Landing and the Lantern Marina. About 5 miles upriver from Swift Rapids, lock 43, and about 7 miles down river from Sparrow Lake.
