Green and Peaceful
A quirky old home featuring a renovated bathroom and kitchen, a smartly decorated living space, comfortable beds, and serene back porch surrounded by trees, orchards and adjacent to a small barn. Joab went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, including building a step stool for my Mom so she could get in and out of our Jeep easily. We went for the Shaw Festival and are glad we picked a spot a ways (8-10 minute drive) from downtown and the theaters; so nice to come home to. A little funky to be sure, it's a mix of modern and well-worn with a closed off downstairs and a vintage enclosed front patio (keep all doors closed to keep any flies at bay!). As a chef, I loved the professional gas stove and reefer, though the pots and pans and gadgets were ordinary or worse (always frustrating when you can't find a wine opener after a long day; Joab did supply us with an imported bottle with screw top, much appreciated after a long journey. The house is a minute or five from several wineries). Super modern sink that I managed to soak myself with regularlyj; there is no dishwasher if that matters to you. A small microwave (for heating up coffee and softening ice cream if nothing else) would have been nice, even if stored away.
There are dozens of switches in the bathroom and nearly as many in the kitchen and they proved to be much smarter than I, although I almost had them figured out by the time I left. So that's the funky part; rustic home with space-age controls. Joab has obviously spent a good deal of time and money on modern amenities.
Little nit picks: Paper napkins and/or back-up paper towels and more placemats would have been welcome. Joab left us a personal note on our arrival, but it would have been nice to have a more fleshed-out folder on the house to refer to. All in all, we were quite happy with our choice. Be sure to kick-back on the back patio and watch the squirrels, listen to the birds, and let the glittering tree branches lull you into a deeply relaxed state.
Perfect for a quiet getaway close to Wineries.
We had a great stay here over a weekend in August. Wineries were a short bike ride away, as were several great restaurants. The house was clean, quiet and exactly what we were looking for. There was more than enough space for 4 people. We would recommend this house to anyone.
Great home in a very quiet neighbourhood
The home is surrounded by orchards and has a very lovely deck to relax on.
We found the property to be well equipped and comfortable.
Overall a really great stay.
A Home Away from Home
Great place to spend a few days. Great balance between retro style and modern amenities. Would definitely recommend!
Ina rural setting, sort of a farm house with high end appliances and beautiful art.. Everything was great, the place is really a good choice if you are looking to relax in a peaceful quiet environment. Well stocked. Responsive owner. The only downside was slow internet service.
Niagara on the Lake Retreat
Joab has a great place with many unique touches. It is beautifully furnished, clean, and comfortable. Joab had a bottle of great local wine waiting for us upon arrival. The house is in a quiet, country setting amidst orchards. It is close to both NOTL and The Falls. Joab is available and responsive. It is our pleasure to highly recommend this property!
