About the property

Winston's Place is a cozy cabin nestled into a wooded backdrop, in the Catskill Mountains. Quiet dead end road, large wrap around deck, walking distance to the Esopus Creek. The cabin, built in 1970, is filled with vintage trinkets situated on a quiet, dead end road, with woods behind the house (as well as many large trees in front and sides to give privacy from neighbors). Perfect setting for an idyllic weekend or longer stay, year round. Outdoor local activities include hiking, fishing, swimming, tubing, skiing or snowboarding, exploring nearby towns, or you can lounge around the cabin or in the hammock, sun bathe on the deck, fire up the grill, eat smores around the fire pit or cuddle up indoors around the fireplace.

The Basics: Two bedrooms (one bedroom on main floor, upstairs loft bedroom plus a sofa bed in the living room), one and a half bath. Wood burning fireplace. Wrap around deck. Propane grill and fire pit. Hammock. Board Games (and outdoor games). Apple TV. Dishwasher. Wireless Internet.

About Nickie

Hi! My husband, Morgan, and I live in Brooklyn. I am from the Midwest and sell vintage clothing and he is British and works in the music/ad world. We adore the Catskills, traveling and our Mini Schnauzers and giant ginger cat. :)

Nickie purchased this cabin in 2016

Guestbook comments from the owner

Alison and her family were the perfect guests! Alison was very friendly and easy to communicate with and she left the cabin in immaculate condition. They are welcome back anytime! :)

We had a lovely three night stay. The house was the perfect size, the perfect distance from NYC, and in the perfect location. Nickie was great--communication with her was smooth, pleasant, and easy. We can't wait to come back next year. Thanks for a wonderful long weekend.

The perfect place to wind down and relax!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I booked the cabin for a short 2-day getaway after our Christmas wedding. Between planning and the holidays, we couldn't fit in our honeymoon until February, but knew we needed to get away. This was the PERFECT choice! The freezing temps helped tremendously as we were able to enjoy the fireplace, cook a few nice dinners, and for the first time in quite some time SIT and catch up on movies! We took an afternoon to visit Woodstock - highly recommended. The house was stocked with everything needed, and was super clean (this coming from a neat freak!). Nickie was attentive throughout the whole process. Thank you!!

Exceeded our expecations!

Photos do not do this cabin justice, the home was meticulous, offered all the amenities needed for a weekend getaway or extended stay. Super cozy, wonderfully decorated, comfy beds, soft linens, BEAUTIFUL fireplace, well equipped kitchen with electric stove top (this took some getting used to!), nostalgic board games, large outdoor deck space, motion sensor lights, cute holiday décor as we arrived a week before Christmas, rustic, yet modern, off street parking for 2 cars, super close to the IGA market with pharmacy & liquor/wine shop in same plaza. Nickie was a pleasure to deal with, excellent communication & was able to answer all of my questions about the area before our trip. We checked out the town of Phoenicia which was pretty quiet this time of year & also explored Tinker St. in Woodstock & ate an awesome restaurant called Joshua's. A must try is the Phoenicia diner, can't miss it if traveling North on Rt. 28. We will definitely be back, maybe next fall to experience all of the foliage in the area & do some fishing in the Esopus Creek! You won't be disappointed!

**We had great cell service in the cabin, hardly any cell service outside of the neighborhood, I'd suggest writing directions down if you plan on traveling & not relying on GPS on your phone as you may not be able to use certain features besides emergency calling**

Fantastic cabin. Every little thing you need is included.

  • 5 of 5

Cabin is wonderful decorated to give you a homey feel. It has WiFi and Apple TV which work well. You get great cell reception which is uncommon in this area. Also it is close to town if you need quick items. Finally, it has everything you need in the kitchen, bathroom, etc. Will definitely stay again.

The Esopus Creek is just at the bottom of the road (easiest access is at the bottom of Cold Brook Rd), known for trout fishing, you can pick up a fishing license at the Olive Country Store on Rte 28. The high school in Boiceville has a tennis court that is open to the public (5 min drive) and we have a couple of tennis rackets and balls at the cabin), the township of Olive has a public swimming pool and public library (15 min drive), the Emerson Resort has spa treatments and the world's largest kaleidoscope (15 min drive), there is a scenic old school train ride (15 mins away), the Ashokan Reservoir (20 mins away) is a lovely 5 mile walk and great place to see bald eagles, Belleayare beach (25 mins away ) is a public lake where you can swim, paddle boat, kayak or fish). There are also lots of fun things to do in the towns of Phoenicia and Woodstock (15-20 mins away).

As far as food goes, Boiceville Inn is the closest restaurant (5 mins away). They have a little bit of everything - sandwiches/pasta/pizza/bar food. Nothing fancy, just a family run place that we love. Everyone in there is super nice, it is kind of our Cheers - the bartender, Nancy, is a neighbor. Right next door is Bread Alone bakery/coffee shop. For restaurants that are a little more upscale, Peekamoose is always a crowd pleaser, about 40 mins away, but worth it, farm to table American food, they have a fire pit that you can hang around after dinner and roast marshmallows and they have a room full of toys for kids. Cucina is great Italian in Woodstock. 2 other places we like near there that do kind of American fusion are New World and Red Onion. For breakfast or lunch, Phoenicia Diner is awesome, just be prepared to wait, totally worth it. :)

IGA (The Boiceville Market), a liquor store and pharmacy are in a little shopping complex less than 5 mins away (on Rte 28). There is a post office one complex over.

My favorite is the Overlook Mountain hike, about 30 mins from the cabin. It is pretty easy, a steady incline, wide trail and amazing view at the top.

We would love for our cabin to be treated with respect and responsibility. We've worked hard to create a warm and tranquil place for us and our guests & would like to continue enjoying these things after your stay!

We live in a quiet neighborhood so parties and being loud at late hours are a no. We want our neighbors to support Homeaway and see the benefit of it so we ask that you be respectful to them as well. To respect the neighbors, no outside festivities past 12am on weekend nights and 11pm on weeknights (please take the fun inside).

Check in is anytime between 4pm and Midnight. Check out is 12pm. Please contact me directly if you require more flexible times, I will accommodate you if possible.

Important things to note about the property:

We are on well water, so pressure can get low if there is excessive use. For 3 or more people, please space out showers.

Please do not flush ANYTHING other than toilet paper. The plumbing and septic tank are not made for anything other paper waste.

You must take your trash with you when you leave. There is NO TRASH PICKUP FOR THIS HOUSE... Trash bags are in the cupboard next to the oven. Recycling can be left in paper bags.
