Fisherman’s stay
If you are looking to spend most your time on the water this could be your stay. The home owner is very kind, but a bit overbearing. The place is not well kempt..and the stairs down to the dock are a bit dangerous, if you are elderly the stairs will be an issue down to the dock.. For the price that we paid I would expect a bit more.

Northwoods trip 2022
We had a great stay at Laurie’s place. We found this place late in the summer rental reservation process and were thrilled. It was clean, spacious, had 1.5 bathrooms, and a great screened in porch overlooking a peaceful lake (Lindsley). Fishing off the pier was fun and pretty consistent. Laurie was super friendly and responsive and went above and beyond to make our stay awesome. She let us use her bikes, saving us on that rental. The area is fabulous with lots of wildlife. We would love to return in the future.

Rustic Cottage on Lindsey Lake
Our family and friends had a wonderful week stay at Laurie's cottage. The space is larger than it looks in the pictures and comfortably accommodated our family and friends (8 adults). The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, plates and utensils. There are fans in all the rooms. The big screened in porch was a fantastic place for games, meals, and watching humming birds and flying squirrels! The location on the lake is amazing, and has plenty of room on the dock for a large pontoon boat. We would definitely come back for another week. Thanks, Laurie!

About the host

We are *Laurie(Susmark) & Jo Cooney. *My family has owned Wilderness Watch since 1951, and after my mother died, I bought out my four siblings. My wonderful husband Jo came along shortly thereafter and together, we have worked to maintain and improve the property, while caring for the woods and its creatures. (Recently, we celebrated 25 years of personal ownership.) I spend five months of the year in managing the rental. During the off-season, I take care of marketing and our rental home, along with caring for our two dogs, King Arthur and Lobo. We have one daughter, 28, who joins us at the cabin every summer, with her dog, (Lobo's sibling) Duncan. Before doing this, I was working for a Nursing Home and did Home Child Care. I love animals, kids, helping seniors and photography. I am on-site at Wilderness Watch, (we own 2 houses on 2 acres), should anything come up that should require my assistance. See our video home tour, via the link. ADDITIONAL HOME PHOTOS ON OUR WEB DOMAIN. Use link provided to view additional photos of the home .

Why they chose this property

My parents first bought the property after my father traveled up for many years hunting and logging. Then they and my Grandparents purchased a second home to put on the property for my Grandparents to be snow-birds from Florida and they vacationed in Upper Michigan for many years. As a child, we spent every summer, from school out, to school back in session, at the cabin. I have spent my whole life exploring the Cisco Chain. Now that my parents and grandparents are all gone, we turned the larger three bedroom home into a rental, and kept the smaller one bedroom home, (with a recent addition, now a 3 bedroom also) for us to live in, while managing and maintaining the rental. Looking towards the future, my daughter looks forward to carrying on the family traditions we started so long ago. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and take care of Mother Earth!

What makes this property unique

Located at the middle of the Cisco Chain of 15 lakes, Wilderness Watch is on a medium sized lake, that has an average depth of forty to sixty feet. The spring fed lakes are crystal clear all the way through August, before the 'bloom' comes on for the winter. Excellent fishing and swimming, right from the dock! Having 'grown up' on the Cisco Chain, I can offer many insights into the sights and activities of the Chain, not to mention great fishing holes! I also offer the only Guided Pontoon Tours of the Cisco Chain, (where you can view the fourteen Great Bald Eagle nests) and I offer a discount to my renters. When you arrive, I have a packet of information, detailing all the things to see and do within a two hour radius of the home. I can offer tips on places to eat, things to see and the must-see waterfalls in the area to hike. There is a gambling Casino in Watersmeet. Lake Superior is also just a short drive away, offering a wonderful day trip location, to rock-hound or just marvel at its magnitude and beauty. No matter what your interests are, Wilderness Watch is at the heart of all the best the Western U.P., North-woods has to offer! Come let us show you what we've known for years... It's all PURE MICHIGAN!!
