This multilevel home thoughtfully separates the living/common space from the sleeping quarters to keep everyone on their own personal schedule. There are two large screened in decks. One off of the main common space with a dining and lounge area. The other off of the master bedroom great for outdoor yoga in the warmer months or relaxing in the hammock. There are also open air decks on each level with access from every room in the house. A fire pit patio is located next to the cabin with ample seating to gather and roast marshmallows and tell scary stories.

With WiFi, Roku and a stash of games and movies, the living area is great for nights of entertainment or lounging by the fire contemplating a simpler life. A Bluetooth speaker is located in the living room to connect your favorite playlist. The stage is set in the gourmet kitchen for your cooking performance with a gas range and only steps away from the outdoor BBQ. You are guaranteed to amaze while friends and family cheer you on sitting at the large island. Enjoy your edible creations at the large table for 8 while you take in the mountain breeze and views of the Lost River valley.

This three-bedroom, three and a half-bath cabin can sleep six guests very comfortably, 8 with a sleeper sofa in the media room on the lower level. No one shares a bathroom at Cedar House. Each bedroom has a fully equipped en suite bathroom with large shower stalls and double sinks in two of the three bathrooms.

We have worked hard to provide most of the essentials for your stay at Cedar House. We do provide some necessary staples such as, spices, oil, flour sugar and coffee. Cedar House is about 20-30 minutes away from the local grocery store in Wardensville, and Walmart in Moorefield.

About Damian

I live in Washington, DC and own a landscape architecture firm that focuses on penthouse terraces and urban residential spaces. After visiting Lost River for the first time a few years ago, I knew instantly that this is where I wanted to spend my time away from the city. I look forward to sharing this beautiful home with you and hope you and your friends enjoy the comforts of Lost River as I do.

Damian purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Damian chose Baker

I want to provide guests with a space that is inviting and comfortable in many ways. The cabin is fairly large at 2400 SF but feels very cozy. With its cedar facade, interior trim, and stone fireplace, the cabin truly reminds you that you are in the mountains. At the same time, you are experiencing the quiet, tranquil lifestyle of the country without giving up most of the creature comforts that you may be used to.

What makes this cabin unique

Cedar House is located in a very clean and quiet neighborhood called The Summit. It is filled with wonderful people who are equally in love with Lost River. Most are from the city and come out to unwind and some have made this wonderful area their full-time home.

Beautiful, well-appointed and very comfortable private home.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Cedar House with another couple and our two dogs. From the moment we walked in, we felt very welcome. The house was exactly as it appears in the photos, perhaps even better. The indoor and outdoor spaces are all very well designed and generous. And while you can see some other homes in the distance through the trees, it is very, very private and quiet. A great, peaceful escape from the city. The house was stocked with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. In the mornings we enjoyed the deck overlooking the valley and the hills in the distance. Our days were spent visiting neighboring towns where you can find a few lovely shops and lunch options or hiking in George Washington National Forest. We loved the climb up Big Schloss and our dog loved swimming at Trout Pond. We spent evenings eating our meals and chatting on the huge screened porch. It was unseasonably warm for late September so we used neither the fireplace nor the firepit, but I can imagine they would be lovely on a cool fall/winter evening. The logistics were also seamless from check-in to check-out. Very well managed home. Would certainly return.

Beautiful home. Quiet location. Amazing host.

  • 5 of 5

The property is very well maintained. The home is spacious, comfortable, and well provisioned. The kitchen had every tool we needed (and more), the beds were quite comfortable, and the covered and screened porches gave us lots of options for relaxing. Cuddling in the hammock, reading on the outdoor couch, enjoying a fire, cooking family dinner, exploring the property and finding local trails gave our family (to include our pups) the reprieve we needed. Plus Damian ensured we were set upon arrival with clear instructions, “how to guide” for the electronics and special treats! We all look forward to our next stay!

Beautiful Getaway in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

This house was everything we hoped for in a secluded mountain getaway without compromising any comfort. We enjoyed our stay here for a family Thanksgiving and could not say enough positive things about how well this place was kept, the awesome views and the layout of the kitchen and great room that provided a wonderful space for entertaining. The owner was very responsive and provided for every detail of our stay. Thank you!

Lovely home, gracious host

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Cedar House as two families, each of us bringing kids for a total of 4 kids age 4 and under. The home was perfect for this kind of adventure, as we could throw all the kids together on the bottom floor between the bedroom and the game room at bedtime, and adults could hang out on the screened in porch upstairs drinking wine and playing card games. Note: The house is not a kid-proofed house, and I wouldn't recommend it for a group with more than one crawler, but it was great for kids old enough to not put a stray ladybug in their mouth or put fingers in sockets. The kids had a great time and loved being able to run around on the porches, roast marshmallows in the fire, and see the sun rise through the misty valley.

The home itself was well appointed with everything we needed - I brought my own dutch oven for a meal, and there was one there! The rooms are well appointed with lovely touches that are often missed or given short shrift in a rental, including soft towels and sheets. There is no cell service in the area, but the home has very fast internet.

Communicating with the host was easy, and he was very helpful. Any questions or concerns that came up from our party were answered quickly and courteously. He is very thoughtful; we felt welcomed by not just our welcome message on the chalkboard, but also the baby gates that he had installed to block the top of the stairs on two levels. That made having one crawling baby that much more manageable.

This is the perfect house for a quick getaway from the city. It would be good for a large family, but was great to have friends along for the trip. The top floor is built for an intimate group gathering, with a large dining table, open set up, and ample outdoor space. I highly recommend Cedar House, and hope we are able to return for another visit.

Tasteful and well appointed property with breathtaking views!!

  • 5 of 5

The home is lovely, well appointed and well cared for. We found it to be very clean and well stocked...everything you need (except fresh food) is provided. Games, movies, plenty of pillows, blankets and towels, even spices and basics for meal prep are already in the pantry. The host had cold beer in the fridge and a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived! Everything from the appliances to linens to the toiletries are very high quality. A true luxury cabin in the woods! Our only regret is that we only had two days and nights to enjoy the fabulous hidden gem. The local scenery is indescribable! There's something for everyone from civil war battlefields, to awesome caverns to the stunning natural beauty of the Shenandoah Valley with its famous Skyline Drive and the many other State Parks. Even though the Fall foliage that we came to see wasn't quite "pooing" yet, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and plan to come back again and again!!

Great mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

The home is well appointed and comfortable for a group. The amenities were great and made for a relaxing weekend in the mountains, laying in the hammock, rocking in the chairs, or staring at the stars while by the fire pit. The home is close to all Lost River has to offer and its easy to get to the Guesthouse and the state park. Damian was a great host.
