About this property

Perfect Family Retreat! Secluded Island "Rustic Luxury" log home on Mark Island

Property is ideal for 2-3 small families vacationing together, or awesome for a larger family retreat. CANCELLATION POLICY: All of the payment received with the exception of a $400 cancellation fee will be refunded for cancellations made 60 or more days prior to the check in date. Cancellations happening between 60 days and 30 days prior to check in will be similarly refunded but only if the property is rebooked. No refunds with less than 30 day notice. IMPORTANT: This is an Island Property and to get to the property you have to travel by boat which now in the State of NH means you must possess a valid boaters license as you cannot rent or operate a boat without one. (If you have a license from another state, check as most states are accepted) You do need a boat (your own or rental) or make arrangements for water taxi if desired but this gets expensive and is a bit inconvenient. We personally feel that being on an Island adds to the overall character and experience of the home! We are very confident that you will enjoy it as much as us (just read the reviews!) . Strict NO PETS policy. Truly a slice of paradise!

Our rental calendar works on a Saturday to Saturday rotation. Note that during the summer we have minimum of one week rentals. See our calendar and rate schedule for details on availability, we keep this up to date. Thanks.

Gorgeous post and beam log cabin built in 2010 with all upscale amenities. The name of this home is "Waterscape". This 2000 sq ft vacation home sits on 3 acres on the edge of the most wonderful lake in all of New England, Lake Winnipesaukee. The moment you step on the property you will fall in love and begin to decompress from the every day world. Relax in this peaceful comfortable home that has everything you need to be pampered!

You are first greeted as you walk up the gradual ramp from the dock by the 40 foot long outdoor living space, a covered porch overlooking the lake, and in front of that a wooden sitting deck around a very large hearth and fire-pit. You enter the home from the porch into a large open living area featuring the kitchen, living area, game area and dining area. The kitchen is a chef's playground with all new stainless steel appliances complete with dishwasher, granite countertops and large walk-in pantry. You won't be roughing it on this cabin stay in the woods! As you stand at the sink preparing dinner you look over the dining table out thru 5 windows to a panoramic view of the lake. The kitchen is fully outfitted including a blender for those frozen drinks on the porch, to a proper pot to boil the lobsters, and just about everything else you can think of!

The first floor Master Bedroom Suite includes its own separate door to the front porch for those early morning coffees. The MB consists of a queen bed, walk-in closet, full bath with dual sinks, and a separate closet for Washer/Dryer. Each of the two upstairs bedrooms have a queen bed, walk-in closet, and sleeping loft that can accommodate 2 additional adults (but this is where the kids love to sleep!). Each bedroom has two large windows overlooking the lake and a third with a sitting reading nook. All the queen beds in the home have new memory foam mattresses for your sleeping comfort. Each of the 3 bedrooms have flat screen TVs for your viewing pleasure. The upstairs bedrooms attach to a sitting/TV lounge area that has 55" HDTV flatscreen with DirectTV and gaming. Directly above the lounge is the highest point of the house which has a ladder to yet another single sleeping loft area. There is a full bath located directly off the upstairs lounge area that services the second floor.

On the main living area the open floor plan created by the great post and beam design allows for kitchen, dining, game table, and living room areas of the home all to be connected in a wonderful living space. The dining table looks out to the lake and extends to sit 10 for dinner. A second table nearby easily sits another 6 guests. When this second table is not used for dining it is ideal for board games, or jigsaw puzzles. For those looking for more serious gaming the table top converts with a flip to a professional card table for poker and by removing the top entirely it is a very nice bumper pool table.

Surrounding the gas fired fireplace is the living room area with comfortable couch, overstuffed lounge chair, and reclining Adirondack leather chair. The back hallway leads to both the 1/2 bath and the door to the back covered porch and deck that includes stainless steel gas grill and sitting deck. Right off the covered porch you will find a newly installed (2016) luxurious hot and cold outdoor shower with private dry changing area. This is truly the best shower in the house, and is wonderful even in the rain and certainly under the stars!

The property is on a channel that typically is only traveled by the locals which makes it that much more private. It has a sandy area for swimming with a perched beach for sitting and watching the kids play in the water. There's a wonderful rocky point with a wonderful bench for a quiet private moments. You are graced with nearly 300 feet of waterfront.

Mark Island is 93 acres and has just over 30 homes on it. No roads as there are no bridges, just hiking and walking paths. You can hike to the center point of Mark Island which is a mount that is almost 200 feet above the lake. This is the name sake for the island, as it is the highest point on all of the islands and therefore early on became a point of navigation for the travelers on the lake 'The Mark'

NOTE REGARDING RATES: There is a 'loyalty program' discount for returning guests. There is a 10% discount for full two week booking, and 18% discount on full month booking.

Coming back!
So I was nervous about renting a home for a week on an island - accessible by boat only. But there is also something very intrigueing and peaceful - to get away from the traffic, people, etc. This home was all that , and as advertised. We hiked to the top of the mountain (brought the air horn and bug spray should we encounter bears), we boated daily (tubed, water-skied, fished, canoed, kayaked) and did fires nightly followed by board games. We did not turn the tv on once. The host was extremely communicative, bbq was big/easy, outdoor shower, and of course the counter top ice machine ideal for cocktails! I'd return without question - I just need to not hit rocks in my rental boat!! I ruined propeller.

Summer Paradise
We had a fabulous stay. It was truly rustic luxury. The home was meticulously appointed with every amenity from paddle boards, canoe, kayaks to bumper pool, games, music and internet. Appliances to spices were provided in the kitchen. Dockage was excellent for whichever way the wind blew. We wanted for nothing. And the firepit was the greatest.

We stayed at this beautiful lakehouse the week of 4th of July. Myself, husband, 17 year old son, my 15 year old daughter and her friend from school. We had family visit one day as well. We had rain the first day and a half but we were well entertained with the bumper pool, poker and air hockey tables. The house is beautiful and well stocked. And our hosts, especially Jon, checked in several times. I have rented 2 other lake houses and have to say Jon and his wife are the best hosts hands down. I would stay there again and highly recommend!

About the host

I am a engineer and my wife is retired from the education field. We enjoy traveling, family and friends, and have always loved this very special Lake. We are very fortunate to have found this gem of a property and would be pleased to share it with you. Our children have grown up on this lake from infancy and we can think of no where better than to call our 'home away from home'!

Why they chose this property

Our immediate family along with friends have been vacationing on Lake Winnipesaukee the mid 1980's and had been looking for a home for over 5 years. Well, in 2011 we finally found our little slice of paradise called 24 Mark Island.

What makes this property unique

The home has the charm of a wonderful log cabin cottage but being brand new and built with the finest materials and finishes it provides the charm of the lake while pampering even the highest of expectations. We are confident that our guests will typically become repeat vacationers as this is truly a slice of paradise. The fact that it is on an island is a real plus as it adds so much to the experience, seclusion and character of the property. Obviously, if you are not a boater it makes this a bit more of a challenge. We can honestly say that our guests have all found it to be a big plus! Adds charm and adventure to your vacation stay!
