About the property

House attached to Bakery, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Short Term License rental #17STR-04467

Attached to the Breads on Oak bakery ( is this beautiful (1800sf.) 100 year old house with 3 bedroom and 2 baths, plus a pull out loveseat, sleeping 6. The house includes a full kitchen stocked with all appliances except for a full oven; instead we have a toaster/oven broiler. (Also see our "Bakery Studio for 1 to 2 guests, VRBO #691222. which can be added to the house at a discounted rate for up to 8 guests). The bakery is open Wednesday thru Sunday for organic artisan breads, coffees, sandwiches, soups, salads & vegan pastries! Bakery House is located on New Orleans' famous & fun (yet non-touristy) Oak Street, full of restaurants, music clubs, antique stores and clothing shops. And we're only six blocks from the streetcar line for easy access to the Historic French Quarter, Garden District, Universities, Audubon Zoo and Park, Convention Center and Superdome, and just 1 block from the paved river levee path for miles of walking, running or biking.

Although on Oak Street, the house is tucked away and pretty quiet except for the occasional train whistle which adds to the charm. Bakery House has just been renovated and is fully furnished and decorated with a cool collection of vintage and modern furniture and art.

Amenities include free WiFi and Cox cable with a large screen tv, covered parking for one car (additional covered parking for a 2nd car is $15/day) plus easy street parking as well. The first floor bedroom has a king size bed with a tv next to a private bath. Upstairs there are two adjoining rooms, one with two twin beds which can join to form a king and another room with a full size bed and a precious little nook where kids love to sleep. The shared second bath is off the room with the full bed (note: twin room guests must pass through full size bedroom to get to upstairs bath). All beds and linens have super comfy 100% cotton linens--with mostly organic cotton--and we use no chemicals in our cleaning products.

We provide a plate of our bakery's pastries for your stay. Also available are coffee, tea, and other goodies to make your stay special and enjoyable. You have a private patio, too!

The best part of staying at Bakery House is that you'll be able to wake up to the smell of fresh baked breads from our artisan bakery, Breads on Oak (bakery is open Wednesday through Sunday)!

About Chamain O'Mahony

Sean & Chamain bought the building & house in December of 2011 to create a bakery for artisan breads with an attached guesthouse. Sean has been a financial systems consultant, traveling the country to universities and Fortune 100 businesses, but would rather bake bread. Chamain is an artist (paints the Creole Cat) and principal with The BOS Group, a business consulting firm, who loves healthy baking and eating vegan muffins & sweets.

Chamain was born and raised in New Orleans, graduating from Tulane in chemistry with an MBA from Emory. While in Atlanta, Chamain met Sean in an Italian Restaurant where they both worked. They married and later moved home to New Orleans while Sean received his MBA from Tulane. That was almost 20 years ago. Sean & Chamain have been married 25 years and have 2 precious Siamese cats & 2 rescue kitties at their primary home. They love traveling abroad and discovering healthy, new & exotic foods. They both enjoy exercising--Sean likes running and Chamain prefers yoga--but both loves walking on the levee right outside of Bakery House!

Chamain O'Mahony purchased this house in 2011

Why Chamain O'Mahony chose Carrollton

The bakery & guesthouse are 5 minutes from the O'Mahony home, which is right between the airport and the French Quarter--and only a block from the river for biking, running or walking the levee. Oak Street, is the coolest neighborhood in NOLA, too!

What makes this house unique

We love walking Oak Street, with all the fun antique shops, restaurants, coffeehouses, consignment shops and the streetcar line. And the river, where you can walk, bike or run the levee (no cars allowed), is only a block away!

Guestbook comments from the owner

To Chamain

The Quinns came to the town of New Orleans

To see the many famous sites and scenes.

We sojourned at a place called Breads on Oak

We thought it really must have been a joke

For back in Canada we never saw

Bread growing on a tree—it’s against the law.

We rode a boat way deep into a swamp

Where gators, turtles, snakes are known to romp.

And toured the Quarter on a cart and horse

For Bourbon Street we had to see of course.

A city tour by bus was very good.

By morning’s end we surely understood

The ups and downs of NOLA’s quite a range

We saw the god, the ugly and the strange.

We maneuvered Grandma’s wheelchair all around

Where narrow streets and traffic do abound.

And grandson Levi most enjoyed the zoo

Along with all the many school kids, too.

The City Park is something to enjoy

We spent a lovely morning there, oh boy.

The sculptures are amazing I must say

Though some of them are quite a bit risqué.

The City is a place of big parades

Where people celebrate for days and days.

And beads are given tourists by the ton

And thousands hand in trees when all is done.

So many thanks we offer you Chamain.

We hope someday to visit you again

And taste again the goodies that you bake

If journey back to NOLA we can make.

The Bakery House at Breads on Oak is absolute perfection! A great house in an amazing neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for our daughter's graduation from Tulane, so we had a fairly large group of 20. Six of our group stayed at the house, but it definitely became the hub of activity and the place to gather. With the spacious common areas, all 20 of us were able to commune in one place for meals or just to hang out. Having a fully functioning kitchen was invaluable, as it cut down on 20 of us storming a restaurant for every meal! The six who stayed gushed about how comfortable the rooms were and how quickly they felt at home. It was quite warm and muggy most of the week, even for New Orleans in May, but the central A/C kept us so perfectly comfortabe and gave us a sanctuary from the heat.

I can't emphasise enough, how wonderful it is to stay at a place that is attached to a bakery! With both vegans and non-vegans in our group, everyone was overjoyed at the incredible selection of delicious pastries at Breads on Oak. On graduation day, there were two separate ceremonies for our daughter, one large one at the Superdome and a smaller one at the college. In between, we had Breads on Oak cater a lunch at the house and man, was that an inspired decision! They prepared a sandwich platter of a variety of their signature sandwiches that were so fresh and tasty, my mouth is watering just thinking back on it! The desert tray of amazing cookies and brownies put the finishing touches on the lunch. It was such a perfect way to keep the flow of the day going and everyone agreed, that was so much better than trying to pile 20 people into a restaurant between the two events. Again, sheer perfection.

All this and the amazing extras like off street parking and a laundry room make this such a special place to house a group of weary travelers. In the vicinity of the house is the funkiest, artsy neighborhood. Oak St., itself, has plenty of coffee houses, restaurants and bars and is just a short walk to the trolley that will quickly take you to much more!

Chamain is a most gracious host and made us feel a part of her family by being so attentive to making sure we had everything we needed during our stay. I would recommend this house to anyone, from just a few folks to a large group, because although only a few of your party can sleep there, it is an amazing spot to gather for meals and to plan your excursions into the different areas of the city. Five stars is, simply, not enough for this fabulous house.

Another great week at Bakery House - Breads On Oak

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful location and layout for a family or friends vacation. Kitchen is fully stocked.

The new dishwasher and refrigerator are very nice. The beds are comfortable - 2 full baths with plenty of room in each bathroom is welcome. Large screen tv, plenty of seating and space. We all have our privacy. The living areas are large enough to have us all together when we wanted to be. The added bonus is the bakery right there. The breads, baguettes, croissants and brioches are the perfect way to start a day. The highlight of the stay is the hospitality, happiness and sincerity of Chamaine & Sean. They love life, it shows and it is contagious. We will be back - again.

Baguette For a Good Time in NOLA

  • 5 of 5

First off, I’m not going to use all the superlatives that are generally used for these reviews. Suffice it to say that if this place is available for the time you plan to be visiting New Orleans, GRAB IT! Your hosts (Chamain and Sean) will do whatever they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible, including having an assortment of baked goodies waiting when you arrive. If your stay includes any day from Wednesday through Sunday, you’re extra lucky, because you’re only 5 steps from a thriving bakery that offers everything from quiche to cake, so no breakfast preparations! There’s plenty of room in the house, so you won’t be cramped for space, our grand children (14 & 9) liked taking turns sleeping in the curtained off alcove upstairs. You’ll be a couple of blocks from the levee for some walking, bike riding or sunset watching and the famous “Jacque Imos” restaurant is just 2 1/2 blocks away (hint...get there just before 5, or plan on waiting until after 8). There are other restaurants a couple of more blocks away with something for every taste (try DTB for a more upscale meal). If you’re headed to the French Quarter, the St Charles street cars are about a 15 minute walk plus a leisurely ride through the Garden District (beware, the trolleys can be crowded), or you can be there by car in about 20 minutes, but then you have the adventure of driving around the “Quarter” looking for a parking place (this is actually fun for some of us). I hope you get the impression that our month at BOO (Bakery On Oak, as Chamain pointed out) was greatly enjoyed by us and our visitors and we hope it’s available the next time we visit NOLA.

The house had everything we had hoped for!

  • 5 of 5

The neighborhood is awesome and very safe. Lots of places to walk to. The street car is a short walk but it does take a long time to get anywhere on that thing. I highly recommend but make sure you give yourself

Some time! The house itself is absolutely lovely! We will stay here again! Xoxo thank you!!!!!

Spacious property. Great location.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a very comfortable 6 night stay. The layout of the house is such that our two distinct parties could share the common areas yet have enough private space so as not to intrude upon each other.

The neighborhood is safe and walkable. We loved the eclectic restaurants, bars and friendly locals.

We found the attached private garage very convenient when on-street parking might otherwise prove challenging.

The beds were extremely comfortable and the house is loaded with every conceivable amenity that you can imagine. And don't forget to stop in at the bakery! It is filled with amazing yummies!

Book with confidence. The hosts are instantly attentive to any question or need you may have.

We had a N'awlins Good Time! Thanks
