The Cozy Conifer Cabin is a special place surrounded by a forest of mature Dougas Fir, Ponderosa Pine and Western Larch. This Missoula Montana Log Cabin rentals vacation home was built from pine trees from the small meadow where the home now sits. It is only 10 minutes off convenient I-90 but privately located on 10 acres of conifers. It’s so close to Missoula (25 miles) that you can take advantage of shopping and dining but return to the woods. Deer and birds call the property home and sometimes elk or the occasional black bear will wander through. There are hiking trails on the property that lead to a trail on the bordering Montana State Forest which leads up to the Lolo National Forest. There are 5 seasonal creeks and wildflowers galore April to July.

Upstairs the Missoula Montana log cabin rentals vacation home has 3 rooms; two bedrooms and a den between them with a large library. One of the bedrooms has a door and stairs leading to the outside. Downstairs is the kitchen with windows looking into the woods and a nice living room with two large picture windows facing the forest. Also there is a large bathroom with claw foot tub and separate shower. The back of the house has utility room(washer and dryer), and mudroom(with desk) off the back entrance. Off the living room, there is a large deck to enjoy the smell of the outdoors, wildlife, sounds of birds, seasonal creeks and wind blowing though the trees.

About Erich Degner

I run a mail order business in Sherwood Oregon but always wanted to start a Missoula Montana log cabin rentals business where travelers can stay in a SPECTACULAR natural setting to unwind and enjoy nature. It's rare to find nice forest on acreage near Missoula since the Missoula Valley is semi-arid.

Erich Degner purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Erich Degner chose Huson

We moved treecycle from Missoula to a cabin in the woods in 1999 for clean air and to escape the city. We always wanted a Missoula Montana area log cabin and this place was perfect. We moved to Oregon in 2008 to be closer to suppliers but we visit. But since we don't live there any more it has become a perfect location to start a Missoula Montana log cabin rentals business. It's real close to Missoula but like another world in the conifer forest. It's such a special place it will be passed on to my son Forrest and hopefully his children.

What makes this cabin unique

Wildlife, hiking, wildflowers and sounds of 5 seasonal creeks April to July. This Missoula Montana area log cabin vacation rentals home is a place in the woods to enjoy solitude but is really close to Missoula for shopping and dining. The property, logged 100+ years ago has transformed from an overgrown forest to park like after a decade of thinning dead trees to stimulate growth of the larger trees and is now prime wildlife habitat.

Quiet cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

We loved the no frills, rustic cabin. The road in is terrible. The cabin has three queen beds upstairs and a queen futon and bunk beds on the main floor with very squeaky floors. The kitchen was small and functional. No phone or wifi. Great home base for fishing or hunting trips or just for getting away in the wilds of Montana. Plenty of deer and grouse in the yard to keep us entertained.

We are travelling with a 4 and 6 year old as well as a dog. We thought the location and the porch would be nice for exploring Missoula, visiting with friends, and having a campfire at night. Upon driving into the property though we started to have reservations. The back entrance was covered in mouse poop and there were wasps all around the porch, which was in disrepair. The inside was dirty, the furnishing and bedding were old and raggedy, and there were more wasps and ants. The one room upstairs with an a/c unit had exposed wires and a hole in the window screen. Wasps were nesting just outside this window and came streaming out when we moved around. There were no railings on the stairs, broken glass and trash around the property and a dirty, wet wash cloth in the bathroom. We felt unsafe and uncomfortable in this location, especially as there is no phone and it is out of cell range. Even though it was late and we had driven all day, we left and went into Missoula to find a hotel. Very disappointed with this vrbo experience.

Owner's Response: Déjà vu…2 customers past year have tried same trick, I have learned their game. They arrive at cabin, it’s too rustic for them or whatever. Rather than stay, they call me frantically saying cabin is awful and embellish every single problem they can find, leave a bad review so they can get a full refund even though there’s a contract. Marissa tried trick July 2015, Gloria tried exact same trick July 2016. Kelly called, said it was uninhabitable. July had 7 different guests with NO problems reported at all. Lisa July 25-27th, checked out same day (July 27th) that Kelly checked in. There was ZERO mention of any problems from Lisa or the other ½ dozen July guests. Merry Maids did a thorough deep clean of cabin mid July; Maid in Montana did a deep clean a week later. July 1-2 Siddharth stayed, July 2-9th Michael G., July 9-10 Michael D., July 13-14th Katie, July 15-18th Jo, July 21-23 Tesla for bachelorette party. July 25-27th Lisa stayed and checked out same day (27th) Kelly arrives. Kelly’s check in July 27th. That day my caretaker Dan was there 11am to 4pm. He cleaned inside thoroughly, did laundry and made beds. Outside he tidied yard, mowed grass, removed wasp nests and took trash to can at end of the driveway. He did not mention any wasps inside cabin when I talked to him that day. Kelly claims bedroom screen had hole but 2 weeks ago Dan installed a NEW screen. 3 mattresses upstairs are about 5 years old (when I began vrbo) and ALL bedding is 1 YEAR old. Kelly saying “furnishing and bedding is old and raggedy” is completely false. 2015 I took 3 trips to cabin to remodel, brought ½ dozen sets of BRAND NEW Kohl’s sheets/comforters. Also there’s a nice log furniture rocking chair, kitchen table and 4 chairs. 2nd bedroom AC unit is plugged into a power strip without exposed wires. Stairs from 2nd bedroom down is a fire escape, not an entrance so that’s why there’s no railing. Wrap around deck has a railing on entire perimeter. Back porch is covered by an awning. There’s also a 4 YEAR OLD pressure treated wood deck. Winter snow causes warping but Springtime Dan screwed down all warped deck boards, replaced boards too warped completely. There’s nothing wrong with deck as 7 other guests enjoyed it with NO complaints in July before Kelly. Deer sometimes sleep under deck or by back porch. On 10 acres of forest there are deer and other droppings scattered in the woods. There are ants and bugs that become more active in summer heat, part of forest living.

Nice Cabin Near the National Forest

  • 5 of 5

My family spent a long weekend at the cabin to attend a family reunion in the area. The cabin was fully stocked with all we needed. We played horse shoes, hiked in the National Forest, grilled out on the deck, and saw lots of wildlife. Beautiful place. We hope to return.

Fun Family Get Away!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this magical cabin for a week the end of July in preparation for our son's wedding on the 27th of July outside of Alberton. We held the wedding rehearsal dinner BBQ on this property and everyone had a fabulous time playing horseshoes, crochet and visiting. I would suggest bringing your own BBQ if you plan to cook for very many as the BBQ provided is briquet. Also Very tiny refrigerator but we made due with coolers and lots of ice. The children believed the fairies lived in the forest and loved going on adventures. Beautiful cool & quiet Montana evenings that we enjoyed with guitars and singing! Lots of neighboring wildlife. Thank you to our host! We'll be back!

Magical stay

  • 5 of 5

We were a little nervous renting a place without looking at it, especially with two young children. But the Cozy Conifer Cabin was truly perfect for our family. It was clean and well maintained. You can feel the love and time the owner has put into the place. Not only the cabin, but the land around. We found plenty of trails and bridges that were perfect for the children to walk on. When we were there, the seasonal creeks were dry, but we still had fun exploring the dried up beds.

The land backs up to state land and one day we went on a picnic lunch/hike. The owner was very helpful in letting me know what to expect. Our family hopes to rent the place again. We made some great memories there!
