Elegant, Historic Healdsburg Bungalow, Walk 4 Blocks to Plaza

Bedrooms 2
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 30 nights

About the property

Bungalow, 2 Bedroom, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This beautifully renovated, 110-year old classic California bungalow will brighten your days with museum-quality art, colorfully decorated rooms and luxurious personal amenities. Located on one of the best streets in the historic section of this upscale village, you'll find just the right balance of privacy and activity. Enjoy your morning coffee, or afternoon Zinfandel, on the wrap-around front porch overlooking the shady, picket-fenced front yard. Stroll to dinner while enjoying a brilliant sunset. Or, if you want a break from Healdsburg's famous restaurants, throw open the french doors, cookout on the outdoor gas grill in the privacy-fenced, grassy backyard and dine on the romantic back deck, under the candle-lit chandelier. But beware, after a few relaxing evenings in this exceptional home, you'll want to stay forever.

The lovely home comprises 1500 sq ft, every inch of it having been recently upgraded. The restful master bedroom has a turkish four-poster, queen-size bed with crisp linens, a private bathroom with shower and plenty of closet room. The sunny, second bedroom opens through french doors onto the backyard and redwood deck and features a full-size bed, also with high-quality linens and memory-foam top. The second bathroom features a full bathtub/shower combination.

For afternoon naps, or quiet evenings at home, the living room has an outrageously comfortable sofa--guaranteed to make you relax. The room also features a sculptured stone coffee table, and paintings from some of California's best up-and-coming artists. A collection of art and decor books are available to peruse. And for chilly evenings, you can warm up in front of a gas fire from the mahogany and marble fireplace.

The formal dining area directly adjoining the living room, features an italian walnut table with hand-painted inlay. The table can be expanded to seat six diners.

The great room at the center of the house comprises the media center and the kitchen. Inside a hand-carved, brazilian mahogany armoire, is the television, router and Comcast control box. The Comcast service includes high-speed wifi, premium cable channels and pay-per-view movies.

The kitchen is small but workable, with granite countertops, large country sink and bright morning light. It is equipped with everything you need to create your culinary favorites--including high quality cookware, tableware and even cookbooks. All the bases are more than covered: gas range and oven, microwave, refrigerator with icemaker and water dispenser, dishwasher, coffeemaker and even a Breville toaster. So, if you want to cook on your vacation, we won't stop you. The kitchen has a granite bar with two barstools for casual dining and snacking.

This home also has a Library/Office that opens through french doors to the back deck. It features a pair of art deco, leather easy chairs from the 1920s, populated book shelves and desk. The room can serve as an office or just a relaxing place to read.

And you don't have to leave your canine best friend behind when you vacation at this house. Well-behaved, small dogs (2 maximum) are welcome, with an extra deposit. The back yard is secure and dog safe. Plus, there are two great pet-supply stores in town who give free cookies to visiting dogs.

If this sounds perfect, it is. This is a lovely, turnkey property in the paradise known as Healdsburg, the place to spend well-deserved vacations.

About Laurie Windham

This house is the beloved home of the owner, who is currently away checking off her bucket list. A writer, marketing consultant, singer and horse lover, the owner has chosen to share her precious crib rather than close it up for the duration of her absence. While for some, allowing strangers into your home is unimaginable, the owner derives so much joy from her colorful, art-filled home, that she hopes others will share in that happy experience. She also cannot abide by 'no-pets' rules and hopes to change those unfriendly policies one place at a time.

Laurie Windham purchased this bungalow in 2009

Why Laurie Windham chose Healdsburg

From the moment I walked up to this house, I loved it. The front-porch and gigantic shade tree in the front yard hooked me before I ever when inside. While I've done extensive renovations, I've always liked the floor plan, as I prefer my living spaces to be free flowing, open and at the same time intimate. Having lots of light matters to me, so I enjoy the large windows and french doors.

What makes this bungalow unique

I enjoy sitting on the front porch, reading the paper and speaking to the people walking by. Healdsburg is a walker's town--it seems everyone walks, to the park, to movies, to restaurants. And, there are so many kinds of dogs getting walked. To my Scottie's' delight, from our front porch, we see quite a variety on their way to Giorgi Park, a popular destination for dogs and their owners. And, of course, barking is mandatory.

July 4th is a big day on my block, as it's the site of a huge block party extravaganza. Live bands, all kinds of BBQ, games, beer, wine, adults, kids--it's truly amazing--and it's all in front of my house. Since my front yard is picket-fenced, my 50 best friends and I drag out the lawn chairs and enjoy the party from our own private lawn. Way cool.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a wonderful month in this comfortable, charming, well-equipped house! We loved the art work. Our Jack Russell loved the fenced back yard. The yard and deck are very conducive to a leisurely evening visit and a glass of wine. Healdsburg’s restaurants and wine tasting rooms are an easy ten minute walk. After excursions we felt like we were coming home.

The Happy Heart House

  • 5 of 5

What a charming bungalow, when you walk in it feels like your best friend gave you the keys to their home and said "ENJOY". Everything was top notch, great backyard and nice deck. We loved the cozy Den.Your within a 10 min. walk to some of the finest restaurants and shops in Northern Cal. There is an organic grocery store three blocks away if you prefer to eat in. An hours drive away is Bodega Bay and the coast line. If wine tasting is your thing there are over 100 wineries within an hour of you.

The owner and property manager are first class, we highly recommend this home for all who are looking for something special.

Eclectic charming getaway

  • 4 of 5

This is my first review, and I need to begin writing reviews as they have been an enormous help for me in traveling. VRBO is wonderful and I have never been disappointed. This eclectic, charming, and well maintained rental was perfect for my husband and I. You can walk a few blocks to the square in Healdsburg to enjoy a morning coffee, lunch or feel comfortable walking around in the square at night to enjoy a wonderful dinner at many fine and award winning establishments. The yard here is also perfect for having coffee on the back porch and often an evening glass of wine too. There is a grill for cooking dinner too. The kitchen is well stocked for all your needs. The photos of the house are exactly what you will find. The owner/manager were wonderful to work with as well. My husband and I had a guest for part of the time, and we had plenty of space for us. We enjoyed touring wineries, biking, walking to the gym, dining in the local areas, and taking day trips while staying here. There is a park for children, tennis, and basketball within a five minute walk as well. For me, it was great as I could walk while others were doing their own activities as I felt very safe in the neighborhood and Healdsburg is a charming delightful town.

The Heart House

  • 5 of 5

Home is where the heart is and we left ours in this beautiful cottage. The description says it all. It's roomy yet wonderfully cozy. The location is perfect for morning walks and access to the many restaurants and shops in Healdsburg. There are so many attractions in this area of Sonoma County and of, course, the many wineries. A month was not enough and we hope to be back soon and would not stay anywhere else.

Healdsburg Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for a few months in 2012, and wow what a score! The location is amazing (there is literally an Organic market within a 3 minute walk) and the house is chock-full of warmth, personality and functionality. I have a feeling that I might be fighting the crowds next year when I try to book, especially after writing this, ha! Thanks Laurie for allowing me to share your stunning home and making everything so easy to deal with. Hope to stay over again one day soon!
