Our family’s stay at the Treasure Beach Blue Marlin was out of this world.- A plus staff and house
This property was absolutely phenomenal- the secluded beach, the home, the meals cooked by Marsha, the service by Rochelle- the private pool, the layout- stunning and an amazing way to connect with the local side of what the best of Jamaica has to offer. Make sure to use the dining plan-it felt as if we were leaving our second home when we left. The Bedroom layout in the Blue Marlin house was also great. There is a wonderful private pool on a deck, and beautiful grounds and even a pickeball court. The home also provided boogie boards to ride the waves. It’s the staff that makes this home what it is! And brings out the true gem- Our family had an amazing time with all our kids and my father in Law- PS it’s so worth the drive - and make sure to have the driver take you there- Karen the house manager can also arrange side trips for you with a driver. Thanks to the Blue Marlin Team from -P and G-

Wonderful stay
We could not recommend this property more highly to travelers who want to experience the quieter, more local, authentic side of Jamaica. The staff went above and beyond to make our family group comfortable, well taken care of and absurdly well fed! Looking forward to returning next year.

Fantastic, tranquil vacation
The Blue Marlin completely lived up to its promise. The property: Beautiful, meticulously maintained grounds. Wide, clean, completely empty beach (with the exception of a few very cute goats wandering around). Nice surf... not the completely still Caribbean waters, but smaller waves than East Coast USA beaches. House was simply decorated, clean, and well maintained. Climate: Perfect. High 80's (F) during the day, 68-72 at night. AC in each bedroom, but really not needed. During the day, the house remained cool with the ever present ocean breeze. Treasure Beach: Amazingly, Treasure Beach was true to everything I read online. We've been to Montego Bay a few times, which can get understandably "touristy". Treasure Beach is a quiet fishing/farming community, everybody we encountered was genuinely kind, we never felt like anybody was just being nice to get our tourist dollars. It was a really wonderful community. Didn't see a tourist shop type of place the entire time we were there, which was really refreshing. Getting there from MBJ airport: It's a solid 2.5 hour drive. It's only 60 miles, which means you are driving pretty slow. We rented a van, and on the way there took the B8 to the B7 to the A2... that was a tough route. Lots of potholes, thin roads with 2-way traffic, and Jamaican drivers are impressively high-risk. On the way home, we took a different route... just the A2 to the B8, skipping the B7 part. A few more miles, but a MUCH easier drive, and I think faster because the roads were in better shape. I'm an adventurous driver, but I would definitely not do the drive at night. Staff: Wonderful. Micheal and Anna took great care of us, and were always there without being obtrusive at all. They are available to prepare and serve all your meals, go grocery shopping whenever you like, buy lobsters from the local fisherman for you, do the laundry and dishes, keep the place clean, etc. So gracious, so kind, I can't say enough about them. Beach lounges were set up on the sand every day for us. And the groundskeeper keeps the gardens absolutely beautiful. Restaurants: Don't expect fine dining at the local restaurants. Jake's was a very nice restaurant, and Jack Sprat's was a cool bar atmosphere. The Lobster Pot down the beach was dirty, slow service, and a stray dog was hanging out under our table. But the food was amazing, the people were nice, it was cheap, and we went back. Loved it. It's a beautiful, truly unspoiled part of Jamaica.

Amazing views throughout this private oasis!
The views from this well cared for home are hardly captured in photos. The sun sets every night over your private beach and the stars at night are also spectacular. Our 2 families had plenty of space to relax and our hosts Ann and Michael took great care of us. Karen was a breeze to work with and she perfectly arranged our transportation for the week with the most friendly, prompt and reliable driver, Aman. Aman took us to a local jerk hut on the way into Great Bay, YS Falls, and to Jack Sprats for a meal. Captain Dennis graciously brought us on an unforgettable boat ride along the coast, up to Black River and then for lunch to the Pelican Bar. Ann and Michael prepared our deliciously simple meals family style each day and fresh coffe and breakfast each morning. Our grilled lobster dinner upon our arrival was amazing. They both made sure that we had everything that we needed, and communicated with us each morning to arrange our meals around our schedule. Michael discreetly stayed on property each night to ensure our comfort. The home has an amazing ‘summer house’ which is perfect for relaxing by the oceans edge. The grounds are spacious and well maintained- we especially loved the bonfire that was prepared for us on the beach on our last night. The Lobster Pot is a local restaurant just steps away and is worth a visit for their conch and lobster dishes. Pedro bluff is a short walk up the beach and has a rustic walking trail for more amazing views of Great Bay. This home is a perfect private oasis set along a picturesque beach and a short drive to the local attractions. Our hosts took great care of us and we would be so lucky to return.

About the host

The Blue Marlin Beach House was originally built as the weekend home and healthy retreat for the Tatham family. Now in its 4th generation the Tatham family has passed on many of the responsibilities to the younger generation. Bruce along with his aunt Sandy and reservations manager Karen hope to bring our slice of paradise to the wider world.

Why they chose this property

The dry climate and healthy sea air was the answer to William's childhood asthma. Living in the damp, cool hills of Mandeville, William would suffer regular attacks so in an effort to find a healthier environment for their youngest child, Ted and Joan Tatham combed Jamaica's north and south coasts. When they happened upon the small, remote fishing village of Great Bay, they knew their prayers were answered. And so started the the weekly trek to Great Bay. Joan and Ted would collect the children from school on a Friday afternoon - car already packed with animals and food for the one hour trek to the coast - hopefully getting in before dark, with time to light the kerosene fridge and lamps.

At weekends the children became explorers: hunting for shells, crabbing, searching for Taino artefacts, exploring nearby caves and dunes. When not exploring, sports were the focus: swimming, hiking, and playing softball and football (soccer) with the local kids. Nighttimes were spent around the table for memorable family meals, impromptu games of Blind Man's Buff, bonfires and duppy (ghost) stories on the beach. When Monday morning rolled around, everything was packed up, then back to school and work in Mandeville. Needless to say, the asthma was kept at bay, and William (and the rest of the Tatham kids) grew up to be very healthy athletic adults.

In fact, Melinda, the second Tatham child went on become the Caribbean' s # 1 Junior Tennis Champion and represented Jamaica in the Federation Cup and competed at both Wimbledon and the French Open.

Carrying on tradition, Melinda's children now represent Jamaica in the international Squash arena, including the highest level of squash - the Commonwealth Games.
