Location

The best kept secret in Canada is this little town located just a 20 minute picturesque drive from the most famous address in the world, Niagara Falls!! Lots of people have it on their bucket list to see Niagara Falls, once you have seen the spectacular Falls, then what do you do? Many visitors to NOTL come across it by accident, and can’t believe their luck to have found such a wonderful town. Come and stay in our quaint little town of Niagara-on-the-Lake; ‘the prettiest town in Canada’. Canadians are known for their modesty, so this little town has been kept as a real treat to explore and be surprised by all that is going on around here!

Originally the capital of Canada, Niagara-on-the-Lake has historical significance not only to Canada but the USA as well. It is a walk through history as you can explore Fort George, see Fort Niagara (across the mighty Niagara River), battle fields and historical monuments that can give you the real feel for what has happened not so very long ago! Our geographical location lends itself well to be prime soft fruit farm land. We are well known for grapes, peaches, cherries, strawberries and have the festivals to prove it! In the mid 1970’s the wine industry realized that a wide variety of grapes could be grown and as well we have the unique ability to produce Ice Wine. We are now internationally recognized and produce some of the finest wines in the world!

Now along with the wine, we have become the culinary capital of Canada. You never know when chefs from the Food Network or HGTV are gracing our tables with their talents!

Love live theatre? we have the largest award winning reportory theatre in North America. The Shaw Festival Theatre has grown to be a significant venue in the theatre world often offering a mix of the high brow with a taste of a good old musical that gets the toes tapping and the heart singing!

Outdoor activities…well they abound here from golf, hiking, walking, birding, horseback riding, sightseeing, to just plain old strolling and enjoying the town! This area is pretty flat so it is becoming a mecca for cyclists! For those that like to cruise it’s wonderful to go around to wineries, shops, fruit stands or other interesting vistas. But for those that want the challenge there is ‘The Bench’ and the escarpment that will give you the work out to get your heart pounding! Increasing in popularity is cycling the Welland Canal from one end to the other, watching all the ships go through the locks!

Families will find an abundance of things to do with the kids. There are public swimming pools, play grounds, wading pools, petting zoos, largest touring chocolate factory in North America and Fort George where they can explore what kids did 200 years ago! Just go outside with your kids because it’s a safe place to roller blade along some of the paved trails, toss a ball around our go for picnics and read a book to the little ones while watching spectacular sunsets over Lake Ontario.

Girls get-away? couples reuniting or friends just hanging out can get organized tours or just do some last minute reservations to see what tickles their fancy! Take a Jet Boat Ride up the Niagara River and you can claim that you challenged the most dangerous rapids of all at a category six! Not so adventurous…suck it up, the jet boat ride is a blast and really amazing to see Niagara Falls from a vantage point that there is no other way to see!

Golf, Golf, Golf, Golf…do you like Golf? Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club (9 holes) is ranked one of the top 10 in North America and is the oldest one still functioning. Want more challenging courses, well there are lots and lots. But make your reservations early!!

From gourmet food to family friendly, we have restaurants to offer the best of the best. Or do you like to cook? We have amazing fruit stands, farmer’s markets and boutique food stores that will inspire even the basic of cooks! I am always surprised by what our guests do in our town that I have never even thought of! Photographers, gardeners, birders , geo-cashers, vintners, cyclers, antiquers and geekers… seems we have something for everyone! Looking forward to seeing you around too!
