About Carolyn Nelson
I take great pride keeping "The Cottage" updated and am particular when it comes to cleanliness and personally work to insure high standards are maintained. While at "The Cottage" I love exploring the forest, cross country skiing and seeking out new adventures close by. There is so much to see and do! The BEST hiking trails are just behind "The Cottage". They are second-to-none offering a bird's eye view of Lake Superior & surrounding islands. Lake Superior commands the utmost respect for those venturing out on its waters, while consistently over-delivering a powerful, spiritual message to those of us admiring its grandeur shoreside. Guests will surely feel "The Spirit of Gitche Gumee" and appreciate the nature, serenity and animal neighbors who call this amazing place home. I personally enjoy traveling and believe it broadens ones perspective of the world by teaching tolerance, respect and understanding of all people and cultures. It is truly my pleasure sharing this magical place with you. Welcome!

This spectacular place has brought to me, friends, family and guests many cherished memories, healing escapes & heart-thumping adventures. This is truly one of my favorite places in this world.
What makes this Cottage unique
Thunder Bay is a cultural city with a "Duluth" kind-of-feel. Its WaterFront area is lovely hosting a harbor and walking paths. Here you will discover some wonderful restaurants with creative, interesting food. Here also is fun, interesting events. Don't miss the BrewHa Craft Beer Festival or Blues Festival held in summer months. There are numerous festivals year-round so make sure to check visitthunderbay.com for upcoming events. Thunder Bay hosts an International Airport, City Centre & several Universities. The International Airport and City Centre are only 25 minutes from "The Cottage". Here guests will enjoy an upscale, new airport to fly anywhere in the world. In the City Centre guests can purchase quality meat, fresh fish, produce & baked goods at reasonable prices. Have you ever eaten a "Persian"? It is a special pastry ONLY from Thunder Bay. Stop in at "The Persian Man" and try one -- they are pink, sweet and delicious. You are sure to feel more like a local afterward! My favorite place is residing at "The Cottage" overlooking ever-changing magnificent Lake Superior, but I also really appreciate the convenience having a city close by.

Beautiful and relaxing.
We enjoyed five nights at the cottage for a family vacation. The cottage was cute and clean. The view cannot be beat! If you are physically able, I highly recommend taking advantage of the Mink Mountain trails just up the road. Carolyn was great to work with. We were content to just hang out at the cottage and only ventured into Thunder Bay one day. But, if you like to run around doing touristy things you might want to know it was about a half-hour drive to things. We loved it and hope to be back some day!
Amazing amazing amazing. Perfect
It IS a little far from conveniences like gas and groceries but if you plan that in, it was a perfect location. We saw bear and cubs and fox. Hiked to picnic point. The yard is perfection. The only thing that could make it better for me would be a hammock. I really wanted to nap to the sounds of the waves
Thank you for the wonderful review! The Cottage is a private and peaceful setting on Lake Superior’s shoreline. It is recommended guests bring a cooler with grocery items, which can be purchased in Grand Marais, Minnesota just one hour South of The Cottage or in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada 1/2 hour North of The Cottage. Guests find it very convenient having such wonderful, high quality grocery stores close by! A colorful variety of Adirondack chairs adorn the lower deck, which literally hangs over Lake Superior. Guests are encouraged bringing their favorite hammock to tether between several trees or to one of the multiple decks overlooking the lake. It was a pleasure hosting you and so glad your enjoyed your time at The Cottage.
Lake Superior superior views
Great clean beautiful vacation spot. Peace and tranquillity beyond belief! I was too leary to get into the water, (afraid I'd slip), but enjoyed the deckS! Fabulous grill, and kitchen had everything we needed. Appreciated being able to get propane tank when empty. Totally enjoyed visiting places in the area. The best thing? When it was hot everywhere, it was cool and lovely at this spot. A bit of a drive to get to it, but well worth it! Thanks to our host and to her manager Cathy!
Beautiful cottage situated on Lake Superior that felt like home the second we arrived! Carolyn was wonderful to work with, communication was excellent and we encountered no problems with the stay. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for an get away from every day life.
Falcon's Ridge Cottage
Overall this is a wonderful rental. Very clean, and has most amenities that you'd need for your stay. The communication from Carolyn was great, we found the place with no problem, and getting in was a breeze.
We used the hot tub 2 or 3 times, and spent time down on the lake dock / deck area as well as on the deck by the cottage catching some sun as the weather was very nice. The fire pit area is also inviting although we didn't have a chance to use it. It's definitely located "off the beaten path", which for us is what we were looking for. It does take a bit of a drive to get to any restaurants, stores, or some of the Provincial parks. Kakabeka Falls was about 45 minutes away and worth the trip. From the cabin we watched 2 buck deer in "velvet" nibbling on pine trees down by the lake shore, saw numerous fox in the area, and even saw a lone bear on the gravel road about 1/4 mile away. Beds were very clean & comfortable, and for 4 people this was an adequate size cottage for our stay. About the only thing we wished would be a little different is the internet as it was slow, but considering this was a vacation, trying to get away from stuff like this it wasn't all bad. It was a little harder on our 2 young adult children trying to post pictures of our trip on social media...but they survived! :) The Lake Superior view is great, and the Nor'Wester Mountains in the area are very picturesque. I'd definitely recommend this cottage if you're looking to escape to some peace and quiet!
Beautiful clean cottage right on Lake Superior!
The cottage was beautiful and spotless. It is well stocked with everything you could possibly need and was incredibly peaceful. Amazing views with a beautiful waterfront lower deck. The upper deck had plenty of comfortable seating with a great hot tub to soak up the views. We were able to rent a canoe right up the road and putted around the bay. There are also some great hiking trails right from the cottage, picnic point off of Mink Mountain was our favorite. Would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.
Thank you for the great review! I take pride presenting an immaculate place for guests to reside and appreciate this being recognized.
