About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

ACCOMMODATIONS: This 3-story log home of 2,700+ sq. feet has a lakeview, 5 bedrooms and 3 baths and comfortably accommodates 10 persons for your family gatherings and retreats all year round. Enjoy the Game Room with its Warrior Foosball Table and 7 ft. Viper Arctic Ice Air Hockey Table and 55” HDTV and DVD player. Free Wi-Fi.

On the main second floor is the comfortable and “woodsy” living room with wood burning fireplace, entertainment center containing the flat screen cable HDTV, DVD player, CD player and stereo; dining room with adjacent sitting area; and fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher to handle the big meals.

The large circular walnut dining table seats 8-10 and has a fold-out card table top with poker chips great for “Texas Hold Em” and other entertaining card and board games. The second floor also contains a second full bath and the enclosed sunroom porch with lakeview, casual bar and electronic dart board. Relax on the expansive 400+ sq. ft. deck with its lakeview, propane BBQ and plenty of patio furniture for outdoor seating and dining during non-winter months

The top third floor has two large master bedrooms, each with a king size bed and one even has its own wood burning fireplace for quiet getaway time. There is a shared full bath on this level.

The first floor is nearly a “separate home” with the log-lined Game Room, three bedrooms (one with an extra cable TV), bath and laundry room with regular size washer and dryer. The three real-sized bedrooms sleep seven on 1 queen size bed and 5 single beds. This floor provides the kids with their separate space for entertainment, video and table games and even sleeping while the adults relax upstairs.

LINEN & CLEANING SERVICES: Full linen service and cleaning services are included. Bear Lodge has a long flat driveway for easy access and parking pad for vehicles.

SNOW DAYS: Bear Lodge is on the “sunny” North Shore of Big Bear Lake and has the advantage of facing south and west so the roads are quickly cleared of snowfall and have very few icy patches. The North Shore is also the “quiet side” of the lake and the bend-in-the-road town of Fawnskin and its small residential community is surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. The ski resorts at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit (6 miles away) are a quick and dry 10 minute drive on the “Fawnskin Freeway”. It is easier and quicker to get to the ski resorts from Fawnskin rather than fighting the heavy traffic and sometimes icy and snow conditions through Big Bear Village. The key is whether the roads are dry and fast as opposed to wet and icy in the shade; and the advantage goes to the sunny North Shore.

CAPTAIN JOHN’S MARINA: Within a short walk of Bear Lodge is the public Dana Point Park and Captain John’s Fawn Harbor & Marina with its complete supply of boating craft including entertaining pontoon boats, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and jet skis for the young at heart.

DISCOVERY CENTER & OBSERVATORY: Definitely visit the Big Bear Discovery Center one mile down the road for educational exhibits, talks and eagle tours in season. The “Adventure Pass” for the National Forest can be purchased here or at the nearby Ranger Station. The Cal Tech Solar Observatory is on this stretch of road and is open to visitors during the summer months.

HIKING & BIKING: The North Shore also offers a three mile level and paved "walking and biking trail" that takes visitors along the shoreline to Cypress Point and to the east end of the lake at Stanfield Cut-off. The U.S. Ranger Station provides hiking and trail maps including the route up to the Pacific Crest Trail which goes from Alaska to Baja California.

TOWN OF FAWNSKIN: The North Shore Café in Fawnskin provides guests and locals with excellent cuisine and hearty food at reasonable prices with friendly hometown service. Grab a cool beverage at the Moose Lodge if you are a member and explore a great shop The North Shore Trading Company for unique clothing, furnishings and gifts. The Fawnskin Market carries the basic necessities until you get to Von’s or Stater Bros. on the other side.

BIG ADVANTAGE: Local professional property manager for check-ins & outs, linen service, cleaning service and emergencies. You call and see someone local, not 50 miles away down the hill.

North big bear lake area. Nice big property.

  • 4 of 5

(1) very spacious property. has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

(2) lots of yard space in the front to snow play during winter.

(3) everything was in working order.

(4) lots of items to keep people entertained. (internet. foosball, air hockey!, big tv with cable)

(5) very nice views of the lake!

(1) we came about a week after a snow storm and so the street was plowed, but only for one car. The house is also on a ONE WAY street so lots of people drove down the street but could not turn around

(2) because of the snow they did not plow the driveway adequately. It could only fit one car. Now if you are taking one car then this is no problem. If you have a few cars, then you'll have to park offsite (i.e big bear city hall on the other side of the lake) and then shuttle back

(3) you have to pick up and drop off the keys at big bear vacations (south lake area) near the resorts

(4) we opted to pay $10.00 and left the keys in the cabin

despite the parking issue, the place was very nice and we would stay again.

Very Nice Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Altho part of our family could not get to us do to the storm we enjoyed the Cabin very much. Great location, One thing to know is bring firewood as it was not provided and we were snowed in and the power was out. And bring coffee filters. Other then that....a very nice roomy place to stay.

We loved the cabin though there were some details that could be improved

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was lovely with a great kitchen, fireplaces that worked well and comfortable furniture with a great game room for kids downstairs. VRBO description was accurate. However, there were numerous maintenance details that should have been taken care of. When we arrived, we noticed a rather bad leak from the kitchen sink. The maintenance person came and fixed it right away which was good. However, every time we used the dishwasher, water squirted out from a relief valve at the top of the sink which was a bit messy. There were numerous light bulbs that needed replacing throughout the house so, except for the kitchen and dining room where the lighting was ok, it was hard to find a spot for reading. Window shades in the upper floors are torn and don't work well so need replacing. Though pets were not allowed, there was pet hair all over the carpet in the dining room. Also, there were no pillowcases on the bed in the upper floor bedroom with the fireplace - and we had to wrap our pillows in towels. We would have appreciated a couple of clean extra blankets. These are small details that took away from the wonderful experience of an otherwise lovely cabin that obviously has been a place of great family fun in the past.

The property is nice, but I'm very disappointed at check in, my check in time is at four. By 4:10 my cabin is still not ready. When we get to cabin, I didn't check everything right away, when I check the BBQ grill there is no propane, by the time I get to the store, they're almost close. I have to spend additional $20 on propane which I thought Was included at the cabin. Friday is kind of hot, and we couldnt turn Ac. Couldn't find a cutting board, plates are chip, it cut my hand because I didn't realize there's a broken dishes.

Had to call maintenance 3 times

  • 3 of 5

The listing location description was accurate. The inside of the cabin was clean and well maintained. When we arrived to the cabin, by the shed there are two trash cans; both trash cans had trash in them (you need to dump out your own trash at one of the trash locations in Big Bear or else you will be charged $25 a bag). There were cigarette buds in the patio and around the cabin (I had to let maintenance know or else they'd charge me for not picking them up). The water and pilot to the water heater were not on, so when we arrived we had no water. I had to call maintenance three times on the day we arrived. First I called because there was no water, the second time I called was because there was no hot water and I had to call a third time because maintenance did not show up the second time. Everything should have been checked and working prior to our arrival.

Perfect Mountain Getaway Home

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed at this Fawnskin log home during a birthday weekend celebration with friends. The cabin is tastefully decorated and equipped with everything we needed. There's tons of room for everyone to lounge and relax. And with three bathrooms/showers, there was hardly any waiting time when getting ready. The kitchen is fully equipped and was roomy enough for all the chefs whipping up our group's taco night! Also, the cabin has a brand new gas grill. The poker table and huge case of chips was perfect for our group's Texas Hold 'Em games! And our mornings were spent relaxing out in the sun room and on the deck enjoying our coffee, breakfast and a gorgeous view of the lake. So peaceful. Our mountain getaway was everything we were looking for! We will definitely be back!!
