About this property

Villa Mirador in Samara Reefs -gorgeous 4 bdrm villa 10-min walk to Samara Beach

Located in the beautiful gated community of Samara Reefs, Villa Mirador is a luxurious villa uniquely situated in a jungle setting with an infinity edge swimming pool. Its location is superb: a 5-minute drive from the town of Samara and an easy 10-minute walk to beautiful sandy Samara Beach. Designed by award-winning Architect, Karin Nagel, this house is luxurious and spacious and has a HUGE stunning ocean view. Karin Nagel is a Lecturer at the International Center for Sustainable Development in San José, Costa Rica and was trained as an architect at the University of London. This house, in every way, makes the most of this gorgeous natural setting. Everything about its design is well-thought-out and there is great flow from room to room. Two double-wide glass folding doors open up to take full advantage of the gorgeous view of Samara Beach. The large deck has glass railings so nothing gets in the way of your gorgeous panoramic view. In the center of the horse-shoe shaped bay is the picture-perfect island of Isla Chora: the centerpiece of Playa Samara. The house is tucked into the hillside and is surrounded on all sides by a mature, green jungle canopy.

Located a mile from the Werner Sauter Biological Land Reserve, Samara Reefs feels like a nature reserve. Regular visitors to your trees include 20 varieties of birds including scarlet macaws, parrots, and parakeets as well as several families of howler monkeys (who are very shy), iguanas, etc. Dotted throughout the property are lemon trees, starfruit trees, and gorgeous tropical shrubs and flowers.
“Mirador” means viewpoint or a look-out point. From this house, there are gorgeous views from ALL directions.

Inside Villa Mirador are gorgeous architectural features: vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, natural rock and hardwood flooring, carved exotic hardwood doors, a large gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a wine-fridge, a butler's pantry, a walk-in air-conditioned pantry-closet for food storage, a warming drawer on the oven - every amenity you could wish for. Out every window are stunning panoramic ocean or jungle views. Enjoy in the privacy of your beautiful tropical garden your very own infinity edge salt-water swimming pool, a refreshing outdoor shower, lounge chairs, umbrella, beach towels, and a huge sundeck - perfect for relaxing.

The house has 2 king-size bedroom suites with ensuite bathrooms which are perfect for 2 couples. The other two bedrooms are smaller; let us know if you would like to have the beds made up as king-size beds or if you would prefer 2 single beds. There is a large living room, indoor dining room, as well as a huge upper outdoor deck with outdoor dining tables. There is a beautiful barbecue/outdoor kitchen area and two outdoor showers.

Situated 125 feet above sea level, Villa Mirador is an easy 12 minute walk to wonderful, sandy, Playa Samara and a 20 minute walk to Samara's downtown center. By car, the trip to the town-center is faster - 5 minutes. To Playa Carrillo, it is an 8 minute drive. Villa Mirador is, in every way, a perfect “getaway”. Located at the very end of the driveway in Samara Reefs, you will see no other cars, and no other people (other than the caretakers and neighbours in Samara Reefs) … just complete privacy and tranquility.
At Villa Mirador, what you WILL hear is the soothing sound of ocean surf, the sounds of various songbirds, and, from time to time, the hooting of several families of monkeys (Mantled Howler Monkeys) - many which are visible from your lounge chair on your deck or from their favourite trees, just outside the front door.

Throughout the Samara Reefs property and lined along the interlocking brick driveway are many beautiful, well-maintained gardens featuring a stunning variety of beautiful and deliciously-scented flowers and shrubs: red ginger plants, Gardenia, Bougainvillea, the very exotic Bird-of-Paradise flower, and Frangipani, even lemon-trees and a starfruit tree nearby. What sets Villa Mirador apart from the other 6 Samara Reefs houses is its very private location and lack of car-traffic. Because it is situated a bit lower on the hillside, you are eye-to-eye with the beautiful green mature jungle canopy native to this dry tropical rainforest. The huge trees, which you can practically touch from the kitchen sundeck, add to the feeling of serenity and beauty. This piece of preserved jungle canopy, which stretches down hundreds of yards towards Samara beach, is something you would only expect to find off "the beaten path".
The gourmet kitchen is fully outfitted, with ultra-modern granite countertops, European cabinets, a sit-up bar/wet bar for four, a butler's kitchen, wine fridge.... it is, without question, the entertainment hub.

Samara, which has been described as "a small funky beach-town" has a SURPRISINGLY LARGE number of activities available. There is something different to keep you busy and entertained every day: surfing lessons, boogie-boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, renting Quads or ATVs to check out neighbouring beaches, renting bicycles to tour around the town of Samara, book a fishing charter and catch dorado, ahi tuna, sailfish, marlin, see thousands of porpoises, whales! Or go for a guided nature hike with Samara Trails, go zip-lining with the wonderful guides from WingNuts Canopy Tours, all highly rated. Ask Brenda at the Samara Info Center for her recommendations and check out her website.

When you arrive at Samara Reefs gated entrance, you will be greeted by our Samara Reefs Administrator, Daniel Quiros. He will show you how everything works in the house: the telephone, the alarm system, the room safe, the pool controls, etc. If you need any assistance with anything to do with the house, the pool, or the remote-controlled security gate, he will be able to help you.

Because of its convenient location, having a car is optional. Taxis are cheap and plentiful; a taxi ride from the towncenter to your doorstep is just $5. Pick up some delicious Nicaraguan steaks and cook them at home in this barbecue-dream-location, or eat in town from a choice of wonderful and varied restaurants in Samara and Carrillo. The hardest decision you might have all day is whether to have the incredibly good Spaghetti Vongole at Gusto Beach, mouth-watering Argentinian outdoor grilled entrees from the ultra-romantic El Lagarto, seafood pasta from the #1 local's favourite, Casa Esmeralda, wood-grilled steak at El Colibri Steak House, or traditional whole fried fish at beach-front El Ancla.
In the town center you will find several very good grocery stores, a fresh and very well-stocked produce store called Dona Lechuga, 2 ATMs, the very helpful Samara Info Center, several bakeries, excellent beach-front surf schools, a scuba dive shop, unique jewelry stores, a large and very popular organic grocery store, and fresh fish from the Saturday Farmer’s Market.
Pura Vida - ENJOY!

Beautiful views of ocean, scarlet macaws & monkeys
My husband amd I just spent a week. Have been to Samara many times. This villa was perfect for us. Absolute privacy by the pool, amazing view of ocean, watched scarlet macaws and monkeys in the trees. Wifi signal is very fast and stable. We streamed our hockey games in HD with no issues. This would also be a great choice for families travelling with teens or young adults. Lower level separation of bedrooms would give them privacy and space while parents stay in the large main floor master. We will definitely be back soon.

Excellent house
This was the perfect house for two families with tweens and teens. The two master bedrooms were both great; location was perfect as it was high enough to get a great view but only 2km walk to town; safe and quiet other than monkeys, which were fun; plenty of living space; great pool; Samara is the perfect beach town. We got tons of insights from the owners and had top tier help from the Info Centre throughout. We will be back!

My husband and I are from Vancouver, Canada and co-own this house with our friends Tim & Isabel Coates - who live in San Jose, Costa Rica and are the Managing Partners of the Samara Reefs gated community. To escape the cold, rainy winters of Vancouver, we love spending the warm winter months in Samara. When we cannot be at Samara Reefs, we very much enjoy sharing our piece of paradise with others.

Why they chose this property

We chose to build on this property because it was within walking distance to the wonderful town of Samara, it has gorgeous panoramic ocean views from THE best viewpoint in the area, and, being up on a ridge it receives awesome ocean breezes and is almost completely surrounded by natural jungle. Each day we watch troops of monkeys in the trees., listen to the dozens of bird varieties, eat fresh lemons and star-fruit from the nearby trees, and walk to the beach. It is incredibly quiet and, from this location, we never see or hear a car!

The property has a beautifully manicured mature garden, huge Royal Palms, an infinity-edge pool with ocean view, and is surrounded by incredibly beautiful HUGE trees. When you stand on the sundeck, it feels like you can actually reach out and touch the trees - you're that close!

When we first started vacationing in Costa Rica in 1992, we had young children, so safety was a big concern. Samara is one of the most beautiful, safest and cleanest, beaches in all of Costa Rica. The horseshoe-shaped bay and its protective reefs ensure safe swimming with no dangerous undertow. The waves are large enough for beginner and intermediate surfers and perfect for boogie-boarding. In terms of cleanliness, both Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo have achieved and maintained the highest rating for cleanliness and sanitation standards - the BLUE flag.

The town of Samara is extremely family-friendly, easy to navigate, and very relaxed - it is funky, friendly, and has a great vibe. There are at least 15 excellent restaurants, 4 grocery stores, a huge number of activities, as well as every amenity you could want. In all our years traveling through the world, we have never found anywhere whose natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere is equal to Samara's.

What makes this property unique

Samara Reefs is a secure gated community with a full-time on-site Administrator and Housekeeper (Daniel and Anna) who are our long-time, trusted employees. We also have a full-time gardener, Ramone, who has been looking after our gardens for 8 years. The houses are built of concrete and of the very highest quality. They have unique features such as an in-house water fountain, a walk-in air-conditioned pantry (which is a humidity-controlled room next to the kitchen that is perfect for storing dry goods, beer and wine, fruits like pineapple, etc.).
Villa Mirador is the perfect house if you are looking for a private jungle setting, a house that is 10 minute's walk from a great beach, is in a secure location, close to Samara - a friendly and funky relaxed town with every amenity imaginable.
There really is nothing quite like it on the entire Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.
