Majestic views of the Mediterranean await you. In the heart of Andalucia, Las Columnas offers easy access to the sea, 100 golf courses within driving distance and many unique home features.

Situated on a mountaintop, Las Columnas is an easy drive to not only world class sporting activities, but is also located in the heart of ancient Moorish history and culture. Las Columnas is just a short walk from Mijas, one of Spain's most famous 'white villages'.

The home's most unique feature is its 13 ancient Roman Columnas that grace the front of the home. Based on a traditional center-courtyard Moorish design, you will not only find family comfort among the spacious rooms, but also a truly soothing environment with several locations to relax in/around the home. The best time to enjoy Las Columnas is in the evening, watching the moon rise over the Mediterranean.

5 large bedrooms with a mixture of queen and twins are featured in the home to accommodate different sizes of families. 3 bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. 2 bedrooms (one queen bedded rooms and one twin bedded room) are connected by one bathroom, perfect for a family with perhaps smaller children. Each bathroom has a shower while 3 of the four also have bathtubs. We heard from our customers and took note! All bedrooms have brand new mattresses, the best IKEA has, and all new air con in every bedroom. New furniture in both lounges!

Mijas, the quaint 'white village'of Andalucia, offers all the modern conveniences of grocery/souvenier shopping, plus wonderful dining experiences. Our family has always loved El Olivar next to town hall and if you are a soccer fanatic, you must watch a popular match and dine at El Canuelo. Farther into the village, you will find the old square, Spain's only square bullring and 17th century reliefs found in the town's oldest and most beautiful churches. Gardens, playground and an amphitheatre adorn this upper part of town.

Outside of Mijas, there are many cultural highlights. In a day's drive, you can visit the famous Moorish castle, Alhambra in Granada, or the high village of Ronda, or even Seville and Cordoba. Malaga, Andalucia's capital, has many cultural hotspots and a famous botanical garden in the center of the city. Don't miss some old fashioned tapas bars in Malaga. An easy train ride will bring you to the center of rhe city. For younger children, don't miss Tivoli Gardens, a wonderful amusement park, just 20 minutes west of our house. Tivoli is best enjoyed in the evening. For a slightly older age group, there is terrific nightlife in Funegirola, Marbella, and Malaga.

World famous golf courses abound in the Costa Del Sol. 10 minutes from the home is Seve Ballestores' private design, 'Alhaurin'. Mijas Golf, 10 minutes south of the house, is a 36 hole course cut from an old olive tree plantation. About 20 minutes from the house is La Cala,the winter home to the Swedish National Golf Team. Vallederama, The Ryder Cup course, is approximately 35 minutes from Las Columnas. If you are looking for a true beachside course, try Torrequebrada, about 20 minutes southwest of the house. A quaint, little course nestled in the hills northeast of Mijas is Lauro Golf-great value for money and always has open tee times.

If beach activities is what you are looking for, go no further. 8 miles above the hustle and bustle of the coast beach scene lays our home. A quick drive down the coast will put into the beach life of Fuengirola, Marbella and Estepona. Plenty of metered parking is available and a cabana for a day is about 2 Euros. The beachside restaurants offer delicious, fresh seafood and other fare.

Why Nell Nicholas chose Mijas

My parents designed and built their dream home on a mountaintop in the Costa Del Sol. We are the sole owners of this grand villa and have enjoyed bringing our own families here for over 40 years. This property is especially unique in that 13 marble ancient Roman columnas hold up the second floor terracing that encompasses this villa. These columns were found in a field by my parents and were quickly incorporated into the design of the villa. Other features for your comfort-a brand new heating and cooling system in all the bedrooms and a new gas fireplace in the dining room adds ambiance and a wonderful source of heat.

Between strolling through the quiet streets of Mijas or Moorish ruins around Andalucia to world famous golf to the quintessential beach atmosphere of the coast, Las Columnas is near it all. 13 ancient Roman Columns are a structural feature surrounding grand villa. Every room has balconies, terraces, large pool and sweeping gardens overlooking the sea to the front, the mountains to the back and protected state forest to the left. Very private property with extensive gardens surrounding the residence. Please note check in is at 4 PM

Beautiful setting

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home. Could not have asked for a more stunning view. Sara and her husband William made sure we had everything we needed. The town of Mijas was quaint and extremely friendly. Well worth visiting for a true feel of Spanish hospitality.

Lovely villa with large pool & great views

Spacious villa, very well laid out with shaded terraces either side of a central fountain, large pool & gardens & great views. On the ground floor there is a lounge, dining room, kitchen, bedroom & bathroom. Was ideal for our family holiday for 10 people - the children loved the huge pool. It's a steep walk down to Mijas, but only a few minutes drive. We enjoyed visiting Mijas - it has plenty of good restaurants & shops. Don't forget to take the kids to make chocolate at the chocolate factory! We would love to rent this villa again. Owner & agent very helpful.

Very impressive property. Perfect shape and size for a family holiday

Must be the most impressive villa in the Mijas area. Good value price for what's on offer. Great pool and gardens. Lovely terrace. 5 good size bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Lots of space to chill out. 15mins walk to the edge of Mijas Pueblo. Ideal to drive in for the evening and leave the car til the next morning. Taxi back only 6 euros.

Only 15 mins to the airport. 10 mins to the beach.

Perfect location to explore Andalusia.

Fantastic views, supreme relaxation, amazing villa!

We recently had a fantastic 2-week stay at Las many other reviewers have mentioned the pictures here understate this amazing property - it looks even better in person. We really enjoyed lounging by the pool, having a glass of wine on the patio late in the evening, and just taking in the scenery and enjoying the serenity as a family. The house is spacious, a/c works great, beds are comfortable, and just a lot of living spaces to spread out. They recently upgraded some appliances in the kitchen, and do a great job keeping the property clean and well maintained inside and out.

The town of Mijas is absolutely lovely, and you are within range of some great tapas and dinner places with a 10-min walk. Now the hill from the villa is rather steep, so keep it in mind based on the ability and age of your group - we would often walk into town which is easy, and then if not up for the walk back up the hill just grab a taxi for only 5-euro (there are always multiple taxis parked in the town center). The beaches are about a 15-minute drive and there are quite a few to choose from, but it is hard to pull yourself away from the pool! If you want to see Southern Spain, it is a great jumping off point as Granada, Seville, etc are all possible as day trips from this location.

The owner (Nell) and the villa manager (Sara) were fantastic throughout the trip. Sara would text regularly to see if we needed anything at all, and any questions we had were answered promptly. They provide a great guide to the area, including excellent dining recommendations and activities.

One minor caution I would point out is that the internet service in Southern Spain can be hit or miss at times (slow speeds), but the cellular connection is great, so bringing an LTE hotspot is an option worth considering if you need guaranteed connectivity.

We would absolutely stay at Las Columnas again, and will definitely book if our travels bring us back to this area! (I hope it is soon...) Thanks for everything Nell!

Beautiful villa

Very spacious villa with fantastic views. The hill up from the road is very challenging but we tended to walk into the village and get taxis back. The villa itself retains so much character but is in need of a little updating. The garden furniture could do with being refurbished or replaced. There were 10 of us staying for a week and there still seemed to be plenty of space. Sara the housekeeper was very welcoming and extremely helpful.

Mijas village is a lovely place with lots of restaurants, bars & shops.

If travelling to Mijas and not hiring a car, we found the local taxis cheaper for the return trip to the airport being charged around 33 euros as opposed to around 43 euros booking online for pick up by Malaga taxis.

Ideal place for a relaxing meet up with family or friends

Beautiful spacious property. Fantastic views from the terrace. Pool is lovely, large and deep. The expansive terrace is an ideal entertaining space. We hosted a lovely birthday celebration and would highly recommend Michael Taylor (taylor made catering in Spain) for catering for any get together. Mijas is a lovely little town. We always took the car down as road up to the villa is narrow, steep and winding - didn't fancy pushing baby buggies up the hill! If I was to try and find a fault it would be to suggest to Nell that a larger fridge or additional drinks chiller would have been welcomed. Communication with Nell the owner and Sara who cares for the property couldn't be faulted.

Mijas is a quaint 'white village' set in the mountains above the sea. Mijas is home to many fabulous little bars and restaurants-our favorite cozy little place is El Canuelo while El Olivar has beautiful sea views. Scenic drives abound to many important historical sites such as Ronda, Granada, Seville. Neolithic caves are located not too far away.
