Awesome quiet getaway
This place is the perfect place to get away quiet peaceful. The home is just right and can accommodate many. Had a great time at the swimming hole all to ourselves. Really loved the place. There is one thing about the bathtub/jet tub in the master bedroom It is super awkward. It really doesn't work. Might need to check on that Other than that great experience

Another great stay in Ambush Hill
We've stayed on the property before in a different house and had yet another great time this year. The swimming hole was perfect to beat the heat. The fishing (catch and release) was exciting! Easy check-in/out. Sonja is always communicative. The stars, birds, wildlife, livestock and rolling hills provide a never-ending feast for the eyes!! It's wonderful that she opens her slice of heaven and allows you to explore/play with very little restriction. We'll be back again and again!

Very Relaxing
My family and I went out to Ambush Hill for my 19 year old son's military leave as he wanted to get away from it all. This property fits the bill, nice and secluded, bring your supplies and settle in because nearest small town about 20 miles away. Very nice cabin , great swimming hole with spring fed creek. Next trip we will have to make it up the mountain hiking trail. Sonja was easy to work with. Really nice stay! Al Thompson

Fun Ranch Vacay
Great little getaway with friends! Lots of wildlife and room to roam. Just wish we had gotten time to go to the best swimming hole on the property. We didn't see the piece of paper with the directions until the last day.

Why they chose this property

Ambush Hill is a unique property located west of the popular Hill Country, in the badlands. The road ends at this ranch, amid thousands of acres of low fences and free-ranging native and imported exotic animals that have escaped the treachery of high fences. The quiet can be unsettling so much that the buzzing of a bee is intrusive. Once you arrive, it is 20 miles to questionable civilization, a small town of 600 with few amenities. Best to arrive and enjoy. Don't plan on leaving for Chinese food or pizza. Bring your favorites with you and settle.

What makes this property unique

The view is commanding, a limestone cliff, clear water, but the sounds are entrancing, the caw of the crows, the trumpet of the axis deer, the bark of the fox and the howl of the coyotes. The sounds of the insects in the summer, the hummingbirds, the woodpeckers and even the windmill will spook. As I stated earlier, not for the faint-hearted.
