The arrival to our retreat is 2 miles thru the Preserve off RR 620. You'll know your there when you drive into the Horseshoe Bend Valley and the views are beyond spectacular. You will only see or hear from the Inn Keeper if their service is required. Events that are beyond the sleeping capacity need to be discussed as to the number attending events, number of cars/parking requirements, outdoor music, curfew of event and extra cost related. We do not wish to upset the tranquility enjoyed by the neighbors. Lake Austin is awaiting you. The beauty is breath taking! Lake Austin is a part of the Colorado River; it begins below Mansfield Dam and is principally fed by the outflow of Lake Travis. The lake meanders generally from northwest to southeast, with few significant tributaries; the largest are Bull Creek, entering from the north near where Loop 360 spans the lake at the Pennybacker Bridge, and Bee Creek, entering from the west just above Tom Miller Dam, where the lake ends. Its outflow through Tom Miller Dam then becomes the principal inflow for Lady Bird Lake.Lake Austin is maintained as a constant-level lake by releases of water from Lake Travis upstream. The other Highland Lake reservoirs on the Colorado River are Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, and Lake Travis upstream, and Lady Bird Lake downstream. This property has STR (Short Term Rental) Type 1 License from The City of Austin. Owner-Occupied. (single-family, multifamily or duplex) Owner-occupied, bungalo/garage apartment with seperate entrance type house. Are owner-occupied or associated with an owner-occupied principal residence. In 1900 a heavy rainstorm overwhelmed and destroyed the first Austin Dam, causing extensive flooding. The dam began to be rebuilt in 1915, but repairs were abandoned because of a contract dispute, and the unfinished dam was again destroyed in a heavy storm later that year. In 1938 the Lower Colorado River Authority began building the Tom Miller Dam; the dam was completed and the lake filled in 1939.

Lake Austin has been stocked with several species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing. Fish present in Lake Austin include largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish. Lake Austin is one of the Texas Highland Lakes infested with hydrilla, a non-native aquatic plant species. The Lower Colorado River Authority has intentionally lowered the water levels in the lake in the months of January and February so that freezing air temperatures might destroy substantial portions of the hydrilla in the lake each winter. As of March 2014, hydrilla has been completely eliminated from the lake through the stocking of Asian Grass Carp by the City of Austin.

Largemouth bass anglers should concentrate their efforts in and along the edges of weed beds that line the shoreline when available. During the summer months (especially on weekends) pleasure boating activity on this reservoir makes fishing from a boat difficult, if not impossible. Anglers should plan trips early in the morning or at night this time of year. Because of the clear water conditions this can be an excellent night fishing lake for bass. Casting white spinnerbaits and topwaters or pitching jigs with heavy bait casting tackle to the weed beds and boat docks often works well. Other popular artificial lures include plastic worms and jerkbaits. For live-bait fishing try minnows suspended under corks along the weedlines. Sight fishing also works well during the spring spawn which occurs February through April, depending on the weather. Because cold water is released from Lake Travis just upstream, bass will spawn later in the year on the upper end of the lake. Look for them in the backs of major creeks, around marinas and in the numerous boat bays that line the lake. Panfishing can also be good along the edge of the weedlines and woody debris using small tube jigs or crickets on light spinning tackle, or small poppers with a fly rod

About Tommy Cain

I have been a real estate broker in The Lake area for over 35 years specializing in waterfront properties commercial, farm and ranch, commercial, Luxury, and raw land. All of my children and I, have grown up on Lake Austin. We have built all of our homes on this lake. This is my latest creation. The lake has been my family's life. I am a Lake Austin Specialist. My company, La Hacienda Professionals LLC is a Full Service Real Estate organization, That has recently joined Coldwell Banker. Besides Lake Austin properties, we also specialize in all of The Highland Lakes, commercial-residential leases and development. The first lake on the same site was named Lake McDonald, a reservoir formed by the construction of Austin Dam between 1890 and 1893. In 1900 a heavy rainstorm overwhelmed and destroyed the first Austin Dam, causing extensive flooding. This is a constant level lake. Our dock is always in the same spot. If you were on Lake Travis, you would have to walk a mile to your dock unless it was already stuck on land. We are 25 minutes to Austin. Incredible City with incredible sight seeing, restaurants, Live Music everywhere, all the time! Its a must to go to Hamilton Pool, Krause Springs, Barton Springs, Inner Space Caverns, Pedernales Falls State Park and many more! And, the 'Sunset Capital of Texas,' The Oasis, is located just 10 minutes away.

Wonderful!

We had the pleasure of staying here during a very wet Hurricane Harvey. Having such a wonderful house was a definite highlight of the trip. Tommy's hospitality and attention to detail are difference makers! I highly recommend this property.

Good Golly Miss Molly!!!!!

Holy cow this property was amazing! The view of Lake Austin was a sight to behold! The wildlife in the area was something we will never forget! Deer and wild turkey in the front yard!!! The neighborhood is quiet and secluded, perfect for morning walks and long stays! We had a small family dinner and could not believe how well stocked the kitchen was with cooking equipment. Everything you would need to cook for 10+ people. The owner(Tommy) was a fantastic host and was able to help us with any questions we had concerning the area or our stay. We can not wait to come back!

Beautiful home on the river, with great character and huge yard for all to enjoy

We had a wonderful time throughout our stay!! The owner, Tommy was great to communicate with and he made sure our stay went off without a hitch. We had family come in from all parts of the country and everyone had an amazing experience and they all loved the home. 14 of us were very comfortable in the house especially when the 3 downstair bedrooms have their own bathrooms. Would highly recommend staying here, and are already talking about returning in the future!

Great family gathering and location

We attended a wedding at Antebellum Oaks and this property was not just lovely but very convenient to the location. The house was perfect for our family gathering and Tommy was absolutely great and responsive to any questions that we had before and during our stay. We enjoyed our stay and we would recommend it for others.

Great weekend getaway

We managed to book this place last minute and it was a lifesaver. Although I'm not sure how it was available. This place lived up to the high expectations set in the posting--beautiful home with all of the amenities one could need plus a backyard that runs right down to the river. Tommy was communicative, helpful, and genuinely seemed to want us to enjoy ourselves. Recommend.
