About this property

Mountain Paradise - Dog and Kid friendly with fort

Create lifetime memories in this kid and dog friendly mountain property. Kids can play in the backyard in the fort and nature course while you enjoy your favorite beverage taking in the view of Mount Baldy from the private back deck. In the evening, make some s’mores around the outdoor firepit telling jokes. In the fall, walk through the forest and watch the aspen leaves light up the mountains like gold. In the wintertime, enjoy a winter wonderland full of snowmobiling, snow shoeing, ice fishing, sledding/tubing and cross-country skiing at the nearby Grand Lake Nordic Center. You can even fit in a day of skiing on the way to the cabin with a stop at Winter Park Ski Resort just 40 miles away. At the end of your day, snuggle up next to the indoor wood fireplace in the cabin with a warm beverage and just let all your troubles disappear.

This licensed 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Grand Lake rental property has Columbine Lake across the street and acres of wilderness out the back door. Take a hike in the world renown Rocky Mountain National Park just 1.1 miles North on US34. Stroll through the adorable town of Grand Lake just 1.5 miles away. There you can enjoy shopping, restaurants, festivals, ice cream, kayaking, paddleboarding, and some relaxing time on the beach. Don’t miss out on the Grand Lake Winter Carnival Festival with bed sled races.

This newly renovated cabin features wood burning stove, granite countertops in the fully equipped kitchen (including the extras such as a crock pot and a coffee grinder), custom sink and waterfall shower head with travertine tile in the bathroom, and a flat screen smart TV in the common area. The two bedrooms are upstairs. One has a queen size bed and the other a full-size bed. The main floor features an updated La-Z-Boy couch with a comfy queen Tempur-pedic mattress.

Bringing kids along? Pack less and use our Pack N Play and high chair.
Bringing a dog along? We provided a dog bed and bowls for your convenience.

The town of Grand Lake is 1.5 miles away; RMNP is 1.1 miles away; Ski Granby 25 minutes; Winter Park 40 minutes. Endless miles of trails for snowmobiling, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, running and hiking. Some of the best fishing in the state. Enjoy the views and a beverage on the back porch or cuddle up next to the fire with a book. This is moose country so bring your camera! We often have moose, fox, deer, and rarely even bear that can be seen from our back deck or covered front porch.

One or two well behaved housebroken dogs are allowed.

Now some important rules. (Please see the rental agreement and the instructions for a comprehensive list):

1) You must select the 'pets' option at the time of booking if you intend to bring a pet or notify us through the VRBO app so that the appropriate pet fee can be applied. The cleaning crew requires advance notice for cleaning after pets. Failure to select the pet option or otherwise notify us that you will bring a pet may result in additional fees taken from the security deposit. No cats please! We love them too. But some guests are highly allergic.

2) There is a strict no-smoking policy which is enforced.

3) Early check-ins: during the busy summer months, early check-in before 4 PM is generally not possible.

4) Firewood: firewood on the premises is for winter heating and not for outdoor fires. Firewood can be purchased for just $5.00 a bundle in Grand Lake for outdoor fires.

5) Outdoor fires: If you choose to have an outdoor fire in the firepit, it is your responsibility to stay up to date with any Grand County fire restrictions. This site is a good resource: https://bewildfireready.org/fire-restrictions/. Also, please drown the fire and stir it before leaving it unattended. It should be cold to the touch and no smoke. The area has been hit hard by wildfires. Please do your part to prevent forest fires.

6) Finally, Columbine Lake is a private, covenant-controlled community. Renters are not allowed to use the clubhouse, gazebo, horse pasture, OHVs or Columbine Lake.

We enjoyed our stay.
The place was a very nice little cabin style home just what we wanted. Only thing that needed upgraded would be the bed and pots and pans. Also we didn’t have any firewood split and ready, but we got it handled.

Elk Rut
We always come to this property in the fall for the annual Elk Rut in Rocky Mountain National Park. Being on the Grand Lake side much quieter and always beautiful. The house and owners has always been great. Minutes from Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Lake, Lake Granby, and the the National Park. Never disappointed.

About the host

Host profile image
We bought this cabin as a young couple and poured our hearts into every remodeling detail. As our family grew, we decided to rent it out to others so they too can enjoy a bit of paradise as we juggle the new adventures of being parents. We love being hosts and hearing stories of how others have created beautiful memories at the Loose Moose.

Why they chose this property

This is one of the most coveted neighborhoods in Grand Lake. It is a loving community filled with a mixture of full-time residents, weekenders, and short term rentals. It is nestled up against Rocky Mountain National Park and the Grand Lake Golf Course. There is a small lake in the center of the community that is for non-motorized boats. This area attracts a variety of wildlife that can be seen from our back deck facing Mount Baldy or our covered front porch facing the lake across the street. All the lots in the neighborhood are at least .25 acres which ensures privacy yet close enough to meet with your neighbors for happy hour. One of our favorite things to do is walk around the lake on the road every morning and night. We enjoy watching wildlife and taking in the sounds of nature.

What makes this property unique

This property is a perfect place for families with dogs and kids. There is a fort and nature course built in the back for the kids to allow their imaginations to go wild. The cabin is continually updated so while you are in nature, you feel all the comforts of home. The Grand Lake area is a hidden gem. It offers access to the world renown Rocky Mountain National Park without all the tourists seen on the east side of the park in Estes Park.
