About this property

Perfect romantic get away....secluded, simple & serene

The cottage is built 6 feet above ground on the front side (with 14 stairs up to the front door) and at ground level on the back side. It is all wood and glass with open beam construction. It’s tucked into mostly native forest of Hawaiian Ohia and Hapu’u (Hawaii Tree Fern) that is glorious in the mountain sun. This little cottage has ten large picture windows to give it a beautiful, expansive, tree-top view of the surrounding trees and vibrant plant life. It has one bedroom with a queen size bed, a sitting room with an expansive outdoor view and a small bathroom with a tub/shower. There is an open veranda part way around the cottage as well as a back deck to relax and enjoy the late afternoon sun. The entire cottage is about 850 sq. ft. Very comfortable and spacious for two people.

There is a TV screen (no cable TV) and DVD player in the sitting room for you to enjoy movies in the evening after a day of exploring. There is a gas fireplace in the sitting room for great ambience and for those cold mountain evenings.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a 4-burner propane stove top, toaster oven, microwave oven, under-counter small size fridge and all basic kitchen utensils & supplies. We also provide the basic supplies in the pantry such as salt, pepper, organic olive oil, organic honey, sugar, organic coffee, tea bags and filtered drinking water.

This is our own retreat cottage. We love it. We hope you'll enjoy it and care for it as we do. It is a place for quiet contemplation and meditative retreat with a feeling of serenity both inside and outside. We want our guests to experience the magic of Hawaii.

Whether you decide to visit with us or not,
we send you our Aloha,

Richard and Candice

Perfect vacation spot!
It was a lovely property to stay at, hidden amongst the rainforest with lots of privacy, yet also close to the Volcanoes National Park. We enjoyed the vegan/vegetarian food options close by as well!

Volcano Haven
This was a unique property! Felt like a treehouse in the middle of a rainforest. So cozy to cuddle up by the fire and drink hot tea while looking out at the beautiful trees and flowers! Thank you Candice and Richard for the lovely stay!

Best Ever! (for us)
It was great. Period. Not sure that I can say anything unique that hasn't already been said. There are 4 guest comment books there that rave about the place going back (I think) to 2013. Felt like home. We stayed a month. Hosts were absolutely wonderful. Not a - section of - a wall in the place that doesn't have a window/view to the beautiful lush forest. Better than I expected. Car port is wonderful for loading and unloading. There are stairs to the front door if mobility is a consideration. Two outdoor seating patios. A yard to wander around. Feels like a tree house.

Excellent Location for a Honeymoon
My wife and I stayed here for five nights during our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it. At the end of our stay, we wished we didn't have to leave so soon. All in all, an ideal location for a private, romantic getaway.

About the host

Hosted by Candice & Richard

Host profile image
Candice and Richard are the hosts of two vacation rentals, Volcano Mountain Haven in Volcano and Rainbow Bee Farm Cottage in Ahualoa near Honokaa,

Candice born in Hong Kong and a Canadian citizen has been a CPA, a business manager and now a certified health coach. Richard born in New Jersey has been a lawyer, mediator and creator of an award winning gourmet honey. Candice loves hiking and dancing and is passionate about health and diet. Richard loves writing, hiking and wood working and is passionate about helping to make this world a better place.

In our recent past we were the creators and owners of a small artisan apiary in Hawaii and produced award winning gourmet organic honey, Rare Hawaiian Organic White Honey.

For many years, we brought sweetness into the lives of people through this delicious and healthful gourmet honey that we produced. We have passed the honey business to new owners several years ago . Now our goal is to bring sweetness, serenity and beauty to people who visit the Big Island of Hawaii through sharing our two beautiful cottages, in Volcano and Ahualoa. We want to offer an elevating, serene, bucolic experience to people who visit the Big Island of Hawaii by sharing our two beautiful cottages, in Volcano and Ahualoa.

We love Volcano. Volcano was our retreat place whenever we needed a break from the hectic life of running our honey business. We love the mountain air and the tranquility in Volcano. Hiking up Mauna Loa is one of our favorite hikes in Hawaii.

After we sold the business, we put our energy in finding a cottage in Volcano so that we could have our own retreat place. Now we are sharing our retreat cottage with our special visitors.

Why they chose this property

We love Volcano. Volcano was our retreat place whenever we needed a break from the hectic life of running our honey business. We love the mountain air and the tranquility in Volcano. Hiking up Mauna Loa is one of our favorite hikes in Hawaii.

What makes this property unique

Staying at the cottage is serene and peaceful. The many big picture windows throughout the cottage really bring the nature into the cottage. Our guests love staying at the cottage and many said they wish they can stay longer.
