About this property

Villa Pochote - Private Ocean View Beach Villa

At Villa Pochote you will find the peace and tranquility that you are looking for in your trip to Costa Rica.

We are a 5 acre oasis just 175 yards from the beautiful beach of Playa Manzanillo and a nice walk or quick drive to the breathtaking beach of Playa Hermosa.

Villa Pochote has two bedrooms and two baths and is surrounded by the renowned Pochote tree and the rare Gavilan and Cocobolo. Both upstairs bedrooms have ocean views. The main bedroom has sliding glass doors that open to a teak wood balcony for monkey, whale, and bird watching as well as ocean and sunset views.

Downstairs there is a full bath along with the kitchen and entertaining areas opening to a spacious patio accessed by sliding glass doors for more ocean viewing and garden access.

Villa Pochote can accommodate up to 5 adults.

Villa Pochote is constructed with wood accents of Teak, Pochote, and Laurel.

***the home is fully equipped and furnished with lush gardens, white gravel walkways, wrought iron gates, private parking, pressurized hot/cold water, sky tv, wireless satellite internet, cleaning and laundry service, gardener, and 24-hour security.

Built and designed by the owner in August of 2008 the home has vaulted ceilings of Pochote beams with Laurel wood paneling and the verandas, patios, stairs, door and window frames are all accented in Teak.

We are also excited to announce a few changes happening in November 2016.

First, Villa Pochote will have a 3rd bedroom added over the rainy season, so the home will easily be able to sleep 6 persons.

Secondly, we will be adding our own ocean/sunset view craft beer pub on the premises along with a small restaurant to better serve our guests and the area's needs. We will offer a minimum of 6 craft beers brewed on-site, a variety of cocktails and a simple menu with something for everyone.

While you are here, please take time to walk along the trails of our 5 acre property...Look for coatis, anteaters, jaguarundis, white face and howler monkeys, various bird species, and iguanas...Or find one of our sitting areas and just watch the wildlife and nature and listen to the ocean.

We are an owner operated business, so our staff is small, but we are here to help with any questions or needs, so sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay with us...

THE BEACHES....

Because of rock reefs surrounding the entrance to Playa Manzanillo, this beach has it all. Here you can surf, snorkel, swim, kayak, fish, beach comb, and at the end of the day enjoy one of the most spectacular sunsets the Nicoya Peninsula has to offer. The best part about Manzanillo beach is many days the only footprints you will find will be your own.

A few years ago Playa Hermosa was basically unknown, but recently discovered by surfers tired of the crowds and congestion of Santa Teresa, this beach is becoming increasingly more popular for tourists and surfers. Playa Hermosa lives up to its name and is truly beautiful offering great waves for surfers, swimming and beachcombing on a long and wide un-crowded beach.

To truly capitalize on all the peninsula has to offer, a car or 4 wheeler is a must, but still many of our guests prefer to walk the old beach road to Playa Hermosa enjoying the quiet and slow pace - stopping at the tide pools, private beaches, the waterfall, and always returning with stories of seeing more monkeys and iguanas than people.

THE SURF....

Yes, there is surf. A short drive south are the more popular surf spots of Playa Carmen (Mal Pais) and Santa Teresa, but just a few minutes away in Manzanillo and Playa Hermosa you can find waves for all levels of surfing (reef, point breaks, beach breaks, river mouths) – beginner to advanced – with crowd and attitude free, consistent surf.

For any surf questions feel free to contact the owner who has over 30 years surfing experience.

We can also set-up surf lessons with qualified instructors.

THE FISHING....

Manzanillo and north to the Bongo River is an area famous for fishing. You can go local and try your hand at hand-line fishing or bring your own gear and head out to the reefs at low tide. You may get lucky and hook sea bass, snook, red snapper, or a rooster. A quick run north will get you to The Bongo which is legendary for its fishing due to its river mouth - a great place to catch snook, just ask a local family who bought a car they call “robalo” meaning “snook” in Spanish. All the money they earned to buy the car came from selling their snook/robalo catches from the Bongo.

We can also book fishing tours for you – just ask.

A wonderful Costa Rica experience.
We enjoyed our stay and the location. Most morning we were awaked by howler monkeys and Trey was available to answer our questions about the area & Costa Rica in general. It is a short walk downhill to the beach and about another 10 minutes of walking along the beach to the beginning of a great sandy beach for swimming, etc. That beach stretches for another 1.5 hours of walking until you are stopped by a river. In the other direction is the town of Santa Teresa with its great beach and lots of surfing. The scene in Santa Teresa is totally different again and another great experience. I could go on and on but if you enjoy the outside and adventure you will enjoy Costa Rica and this location.

Trey was so helpful and set up ATV rental, surfing lessons, and fishing trips with his contacts for us. The property was beautiful and we really enjoyed our week there.

So lovely!
We loved our stay at Villa Pochote! What a perfect location with wonderful hosts. Super clean, convenient, and welcoming. We felt like part of the family and didn't want to leave on to our next place. Stay here in Playa Hermosa!

Beautiful property and exceptional hospitality
What an incredible month. Everything about our stay at Villa Pochote exceeded our expectations. The Villa itself has been built beautifully (by Trey himself) - clean, spacious, bright with outstanding views from both floors. Great swimming pool, barbecue area and a lovely yoga studio free to use at your leisure with a great teacher who comes every Wednesday at sunset and teaches a class. If you want wildlife you're in the right place too - Iguanas, Howler monkeys, Whiteface monkeys, red squirrels, Coatis, an abundance of birds, the garden is teeming with life and when you sit an wait, it all comes to you. You can walk the the closest beach (Playa Manzanillo) in around 10 minutes but to get anywhere else you'll need a 4x4 or a quad/buggy as the roads are tough work otherwise. And you will definitely want to go everywhere else. So get one. The next beach along is Hermosa where I spent most of my time, great for surfing, beautiful sand, and with a guy who sells coconuts and delicious ceviche out of the back of his van for when you get hungry or thirsty. From there you're on the road to Santa Teresa, a bustling little surf town packed full to the brim with good vibes. There are a number of great bars and restaurants, plenty of surf stores and a few small supermarkets to pick up supplies. All along Santa Teresa are more pristine beaches, usually busy with local and travelling surfers. Further out from Santa Teresa you'll find plenty of nature reserves, other little towns and an abundance of staggering waterfalls (some easier to find than others). The best bit, however, is Trey and Jaclyn. Their hospitality knows no bounds. They gave us lifts to town, surf lessons, the best advice on where to go, they lent me snorkelling gear, Trey flexed his superlative BBQ skills when we all had a cookout, they booked us taxis, Jaclyn took me to the rodeo in Cobano, Trey even took time out of his day taking me around properties that were for sale when I expressed interest. The list very much goes on. Overall we count ourselves lucky to have found such a breathtaking place. If the rest of Costa Rica is as wonderful as the tiny slice we saw then what a country it is. As an unexpected bonus we have also made great friends along the way. We will surely be back. Pura Vida

Why they chose this property

I chose Manzanillo because it was far enough away from the hustle and bustle and congestion of Santa Teresa, but close enough to hop in the car or on a 4-wheeler and have access to anything and everything one could want - and most importantly, the outstanding surfing and fishing!

What makes this property unique

Within half an acre of the villas, there are more than 25 different type of indigenous trees. The property itself is 7 acres and is connected by walking trails that my worker and I have built by hand and has ocean views from almost every corner of the property. All the trails have been planted and reforested, and because of the planting all the birds, butterflies, and animals have returned to the property. You can sit anywhere on the property and hear the waves crashing 60 meters below at Punta Pochote.
