Magnificent Retreat /Not Far From Seattle on Puget Sound

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,400 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 30 nights

About the property

3 bedroom/2 bath, home in recreational setting. Well-behaved kids & dogs welcome

The homes in the neighborhood are well maintained and built around the award-winning McCormick Woods Golf Course with beautiful walking trails meandering throughout the golf course and surrounding forest. We provided relatively inexpensive, yet luxurious home base in a beautiful, peaceful setting. Length of stay flexible and the cost is very reasonable.

The open space kitchen/family/great room with a breakfast nook provides comfy seating for six, skylights, a fireplace and 60' HDTV. The fully equipped kitchen has quality appliances, dishes, and cookware. The laundry room with washer and dryer is just off the kitchen. From the kitchen, you have easy access to a covered deck with barbeque and picnic table against a forested backdrop and waterfall.

The master bedroom suite has excellent separation and privacy; a super comfortable king size bed; a substantial tile shower; a jetted tub under a skylight; and two walk-in closets. The second and third bedrooms, located on the opposite side of the house, have comfortable queen size beds and share a second bathroom. The beds are freshly made; towels and hair dryer are available for your convenience.

The formal dining room will seat eight people. China and stemware are provided. Arched windows, high ceilings, skylights, two fireplaces, indirect lighting, and views of waterfall and forest create a unique, tranquil feeling throughout the house.

A covered deck, flower gardens, slate patio, and pathways enhance the exterior living. Deer, rabbits, and squirrels are frequent visitors adding to the enjoyment of the natural setting. As a bonus, there are dolls, and toys in the closet for children and two bikes in the garage.

While immersing yourself in the beauty of nature, you can still be close to the amenities of suburban living. Enjoy a meal, entertainment, or wedding reception at the McCormick Woods Clubhouse Restaurant and Bar. Or, drive down the Port Orchard waterfront for dinner at Amy's on the Bay. Live theater at the Western Center for Fine Arts, located near the Marina is fun, as well as browsing antique stores and the Log Cabin Museum. Beauty salons, gyms, movie theaters, health care, and even the Kitsap County Court House and Administrative Offices are near-by, so you don't have to go far for anything you might want.

Nearby Bremerton offers a beautiful downtown Harborside area which includes fine dining, coffee shops and the Marina with many permanent ships as well as visiting boaters. Enjoy a stroll through the Arts District and visit the Naval Museum, Fountain Park, and the Memorial Plaza, all near the Bremerton Ferry Terminal.

According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the best shrimping and crabbing in the area is along the Hood Canal. Gear anglers trolling out of boats will find good Coho, pink and Chinook salmon fishing throughout the sound. Cutthroat salmon travel along the beaches. To discover the many hidden treasures, not to mention shipwrecks, visit a local dive shop or sign up for an underwater dive tour guide to orient yourself. Favorite spots for local scuba divers include Harper's Pier in Port Orchard and Manchester.

Visitors and newcomers to the Pacific Northwest are increasingly choosing Kitsap Peninsula as the preferred alternative to pricier markets. They are leaving the bumper to bumper traffic and congestion behind. When there is a need/desire to connect with the big city life, Seattle is a short, scenic ferry ride away. Catch a ferry to Seattle for a day of shopping, Pike's Market, and ride the monorail, to check out the view of Puget Sound from the Space Needle. The WA State Ferry Systems can also take you on scenic journeys to Victoria, or to one of the many islands in the Puget Sound Area.

We invite you to come stay at our home in McCormick Woods for a while to relax and explore the great northwest. There is plenty to do whether you are into hiking, bicycling, boating, fishing, scuba diving, golfing, playing tennis or checking out the playground with your kids.

About Lorraine

After teaching for thirty four years, and repairing cars, and airplanes and investing in properties for even longer, we have retired to a life of 'snow birds', creating home(s) along the west coast. Our home on the McCormick Woods Golf Course is one of our favorites. When we are not playing with the house/ yard, or working on the computer, we are exploring the North West, reading, visiting with friends and family, going for long walks through the Mc Cormick Woods neighborhood, 'workng out' at the YMCA, or driving off for another adventure in our RV.

Lorraine purchased this house in 2008

Why Lorraine chose Port Orchard

We love the ambience, especially the fresh air, forests, clear skies and the natural beauty of the Puget Sound area. It is a great place to take a deep breath, relax, enjoy nature, and explore the wealth of outdoor activities. Being removed from the huslte and bustle of major cities, yet still having easy access to Seattle and other favorites like Gig Harbor, Silverspring, Tacoma, and British Columbia has been an important consideration for us.

What makes this house unique

One chief advantage of staying here is the price: Housing in this area is very inexpensive for what you get. The neighborhood is exceptionally well maintained, and the semi-forested setting feels very peaceful.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We drove up and couldn’t even believe that we were in the right place. When we entered, we were astonished: Immaculately clean, full huge working kitchen, gorgeous master, spacious guest bedrooms, nice flat screen TVs, working fireplaces, a beautiful waterfall in the backyard, jetted tub in the master, double shower head walk in shower, 2 walk-in closets in the master. And Lorraine was very responsive when we had a minor issue and we were able to resolve it quickly. This house is worth a great deal more than the price. It’s not in thick of the site-seeing action, but more in a rural setting. For us, it didn’t matter at all because the house was so clean, so nice, and so spacious. A little extra driving was worth the comfort.‬

Beautiful, peaceful, and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

First and foremost I want to thank Lorraine for letting us stay in her home. 5 stars!!! This house is beautiful and clean. With a beautiful garden. Lots a deer walking by and little squirrels enjoying pine cones. Wonderfully stocked kitchen although you do have to purchase food but that is a given. If I ever visit PNW this is where I will be staying. Only 2 hours from Mt Rainier and Olymic National park.

One of the best homes we've rented

  • 5 of 5

A family funeral necessitated last minute accommodations for my sister's family, and this property stood out as meeting their needs. It was immaculate, well stocked, and delivered to us with precise e-mail instructions. We've rented other vacation homes before and this one was one of the best.

The neighborhood was welcoming and friendly. I even ran into a coworker of 17 years ago who lived in a home two houses down!

Beautiful house and very comfortable for visiting family

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic setting for visiting family. We did not need all the bedrooms but the space for sitting around and talking with family members who are local was excellent- Highly recommend. Close to everything in Port Orchard. Would be ideal for visiting your military son or daughter stationed in the Bremerton area
