About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa Buena Ventura is an awe-inspiring Pedro Urquiza designed home just a few short blocks from the Jardin. Walk to virtually all of San Miguel’s wonderful restaurants, shops, bakeries and food markets.

As you enter the property, you will encounter the lovely landscaped garden highlighted by a magnificent papaya tree and calming fountain. You enter the house via the indoor/outdoor loggia, where you can open the large glass doors overlooking the garden to enjoy the San Miguel weather or close them and start a cozy fire in the winter.

Entering the living room, you will be enthralled by the beautifully stenciled 30 foot church-like ceilings and arches. The mirrored fireplace and curved staircase to the second level complete the sense of grandeur found nowhere else in San Miguel. The dining area flows smoothly from the living area and seats eight comfortably at its custom glass and cantera table. It opens to the spacious fully tiled colonial-style kitchen with copper sink and accents, outfitted with a custom mesquite island and everything a cook could want, including colonial style burners, modern refrigerator and wall ovens, and Calphalon cookware.

Upstairs, the catwalk leads you to two guest bedrooms having, respectively, an iron queen-sized draped canopy bed and an iron king-sized bed. They share a lovely bath with a tiled shower and a large ocular window for light. In addition, each guest bedroom has its own hand-carved cantera sink and mirror for the convenience of the guests. A few steps down the catwalk, just outside the master suite, is an open loft office area overlooking the living room below. The master suite features a sumptuous iron king-sized canopy bed, a custom mirrored dressing table, and a large gas fireplace providing comfort and ambiance. The master suite is completed by a large closet with built-in dressers and a large tiled double-sink bathroom with spectacular mountain views. Each of the three bedrooms features comfortable mattresses, heated mattress pads, and premium down duvets and bed linens and opens to a balcony overlooking the garden.

The rooftop sala and lounging areas provide a magnificent view of the western panorama of San Miguel and the Guanajuato Mountains, providing the perfect place for curling up with a good book or enjoying a margarita while watching the sun set. To the east is the top of the Parroquia, where fireworks displays often light the sky.

Casa Buena Ventura provides maid, cooking and gardening services three days a week and is the perfect choice for visitors to San Miguel who want a unique experience to remember for a lifetime.

About The Owner

My wife is a lawyer in a large Texas based firm. I am a bit of an entrepreneur and sometime inventor. We both love to travel.

The Owner purchased this house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Zona Centro

My wife and I first came to San Miguel fifteen years ago and have been coming down from Austin every year since. We share time between our two homes. Austin for work, family and friends and San Miguel to escape from them...and the hot Texas summers.

What makes this house unique

Casa Buena Ventura is an easy five minute walk to the Jardin and the many festivals that take place in San Miguel. Restaurants and shops are literally around the corner. The thirty foot ceilings provide the grandeur for parties while the loggia overlooking the beautiful garden is the place to relax.

Fabulous San Miguel home!

  • 5 of 5

We felt so fortunate to be in this beautiful home...exciting architecturally, and

filled with wonderful local art! Flowers and lush greenery filled the courtyard and

rooftop areas, with plenty of blooming plants along the outdoor railings. Raul, the gardener, pruned and watered 3 times a week. We were pampered by Alicia, the housekeeper, who prepared a lovely dinner for us, and a special breakfast too.

The house was extremely well equipped, with stacks of fluffy white towels, a phone

to use for local calls, and a special line to the US. Purified water was also there, along with

plenty of purified water ice cubes.

Bring safe shoes for the cobblestoned streets and sidewalks of San Miguel. The Society

of "fallen women" is a local joke about those who have tripped and fallen on the streets of

San Miguel.

We loved Mare Nostrum, an Italian restaurant just up the street, and particularly enjoyed the Shrimp Louie salad at Pegaso for lunch. Panio is a standout bakery close to Pegaso. The house is about an 8 to10 minute walk to el Jardin, the center of town.

For silver jewelry, my favorite store was El Topacio on Umaran just off the square. Big

selection and reasonable prices.

What a GREAT place

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was the BEST we have ever had at a VRBO. The home was beautiful, comfortable, and easy to live in. The housekeeper was wonderful and WHAT A COOK!! This is a "must stay" home in SMA. This home is in a perfect location in SMA to visit the Centro.

My second visit was fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

It's just an unbelievable experience staying here. It is my second time so I was able to see some of the little details in every corner of the house that I missed by being blown away one year ago. Not only is it an architectural masterpiece, the location cannot be matched, and the street has even acquired more dining and shops than last year. The rest of my group, three couples in all, with very beautiful vacation and city homes and well acquainted with 5-star hotels and travel, also were dazzled; and took me out to a swank dinner to thank me for finding the place. Each couple felt that they had a prime bedroom--no twin bedded kids rooms, all are "masters" though the master even more so.Our housekeeper/chef, Alicia, is a national treasure and I should stay in one day to watch her cook and take care of the house so remarkably. We had a sit-down dinner for 12 one night and when she brought out the flan and lime pie a spontaneous stand up ovation for her came naturally from our guests. Our hosts in Austin are obviously very special as well, more than gracious and easy to reach. Their suggestions in a binder of where to market and eat, truly detailed and thoughtful-- matched our tastes and interests. Not mere listings.Though we were two physicians in our group, last year my sister wanted a doctor, and sure enough, our hosts had listed a well-trained English speaking doctor around the block who saw her right away. I found the best jewel in this experience and it's a high standard to match in San Miguel or anywhere, for that matter.

Fabulous Architecture and Location

  • 5 of 5

This is a unique property. We loved the fabulous architectural details and folk art all throughout the house. The kitchen is classic old Mexico. The central location allowed us to walk almost anywhere in town, which was helpful due to the traffic congestion in SMA. It is a 5 minute uphill walk to the jardin. We enjoyed the western sunset view from the roof terrace. We would stay here again.

Note: anyone with mobility problems should not stay here. The staircase leading up to the bedrooms is quite steep.
