About this property

Golden Gate Bridge View from Light, Bright Oakland Hills/Montclair Home

Our sunny, secluded Oakland Hills home is perched high in the hills of Piedmont Pines with a front deck providing wonderful views of Marin County, San Francisco, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. We also have a private back patio.

The front deck and entry of the house is reached by 18 stairs with two landings. The house has hardwood floors, a dining room (seats 6) and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of San Francisco, Marin, Golden Gate Bridge, Lake Merritt, and Alcatraz. There is also a modern, open-plan kitchen with granite countertops.

The two main floor bedrooms each have queen-sized beds, the child's room off of the master bedroom has a twin bed in the shape of a race car, and the downstairs bedroom has both a queen-sized bed and a twin bed. The main bathroom has a bathtub with shower. The master bedroom with the adjoining child's room both have French doors opening to the back patio. The master bedroom has its own bathroom with stall shower. The house is approximately 1500 square feet.

There are many books and original paintings throughout the house.

You can reach San Francisco in 20-30 minutes by car or public transportation, and the village of Montclair, with its cafes, shops and a Sunday farmers' market, is only a 2-minute drive or a 20-minute (hilly) walk from our house. Berkeley, with its great university and wonderful restaurants, is only a 10-minute drive.

This neighborhood of Oakland is called Montclair. It's in the hills, and although close to city life in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco, it's quite green and natural here, with many trees, deer, birds and hiking trails. We are only a five minute drive up the hill to the vast redwood parks including Redwood Regional Park, Joaquin Miller Park, and Sibly Park. We are well-stocked with brochures detailing the various nearby Oakland and Berkeley parks.

Beautiful view!!
The house has a spectacular view of the bay and we spent many happy mornings and evenings on the deck. It is well stocked with anything you might need. They have a lot of fans for the hot days and evenings in August and the air conditioning did cool down things in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our time!!

Breath taking views
My husband and I stayed in this wonderful home from home on the last leg of our Honeymoon. The home had everything we needed and it was so refreshing to find a holiday home that had herbs and spices and all the little things you might need to cook with. The view across the bay was stunning we were far enough to have spectacular views but also close enough to be able to drive and be parked up at Pier 39 in about 25 minutes ( traffic depending!). We spent many of our evenings on the front deck admiring the view and watching the wildlife. We also had a couple of evenings in the hot tub and using the ping pong table! We had a fabulous time and were so comfortable. Thank you for your quick communication and allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.

Oakland Visit - highly recommend! Amazing bay view from the balcony!
We loved our stay at this property! It is a lovely, comfortable home and matched this site’s description. Everything you need is there: linens/towels/dishes/utensils/cookware, etc. The home is adorned with original paintings and we all enjoyed looking at them and picking our favorites - not an easy task; this family is very talented! In addition to my family of four (including a 12 & 9 YO), my parents stayed w us for several nights before they stayed at my brother’s house nearby and we all had plenty of room. The bedrooms were very comfortable; my daughter loved the car bed in her “vrooom” 😂. We hosted a dinner for us, my parents, and my brother’s family and it was great! My husband said everything he needed was in the kitchen and we had a delicious meal together. The owners were very responsive and helpful as our trip neared. They even asked the ages of our kids to ensure there were books/games available to them - we learned and played several rounds of dominos during our stay and the kids had fun playing ping pong in the back! The owners also left detailed instructions for refuse, heating/cooling, TV, incidentals, etc. They also left us a wonderful bottle of wine to welcome us! We know the area well but various shopping needs can be met in Montclair. Note that the road the house is on is very hilly/curvy (per usual there) and not best for runs/walks. Lastly, the view from the front balcony is absolutely stunning! Words cannot do it justice!

About the host

Hosted by Janet and Kees den Breejen

Host profile image
We are Kees and Janet. We've lived in the beautiful Bay Area for over 30 years. We've been dividing our time between our Montclair home and our cabin in Yuba County, California, for the past twelve years. We have two grown sons, one living in New York and one in San Francisco, and an 8 year old granddaughter and 5 year old grandson.
Kees is Dutch, born in Delft in the Netherlands, who moved to Canada as a child and then to California. He is fluent in Dutch. He is retired from the San Francisco Chronicle, having worked as a graphic artist, and is now a painter. Janet is a 5th generation California native. She is retired, having worked for many years as an index editor for a legal publishing company in San Francisco. Both Kees and Janet love to travel. They also enjoy having the grandchildren stay overnight once a week.

Why they chose this property

The benefits of this property include the view of San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate and Marin. A secluded setting but is centrally located, 5 minutes from Highway 13 to Berkeley (10 min), San Francisco (30 min) and Downtown Oakland (20 min), Marin County (40 min) Pacific Ocean at SF (1 hr). We are close to many miles of hiking in regional parks nearby. Swimming at nearby Lake Temescal. Near many charming shopping districts with excellent restaurants. Near the University of California at Berkeley (20 min).

What makes this property unique

We love the country atmosphere while being in a city. We like the aroma of the eucalyptus trees and the fog clearing from the valleys. We often encounter deer with fawns, Steller jays and red-tailed hawks and sometimes wild turkeys.
