About this property

Suite in Historic Downtown Home - 4 Blocks from Capitol

Eleven Oaks Suite is located in a downtown Austin home that has both city and state historical designation. Your hosts, who live on the premises, are homeowners Ted Siff and Janelle Buchanan. The original part of the house was built in 1858 by Edward Clark, who was Texas’ lieutenant governor under Sam Houston and, briefly, governor.

Your suite has a private entrance and a designated parking space in the rear of the property. Entrance is through a locked gate into the back yard. Your suite is comprised of a bedroom with a queen sized bed, television, writing desk, closet with plenty of hanging space, full-length mirror and small chest of drawers; a bathroom with shower; and a kitchen with a table and two chairs, dishes, glasses and utensils, a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and Keurig single-serve coffee maker. A small patio is outside your kitchen door, with a table and chairs. Clothing hangers, a hair dryer, coffee, tea and a variety of sweeteners are provided.

After your reservation is confirmed, you will be emailed instructions for easy self-check-in.

First time to Austin
Rental is in i great location for walking the city. One day we went around the State Capital and the University of Texas and down to the river. We walked to Austin City Limits for a show.. It was also great to have parking and a back patio to come home to. The accomodation was very comfortable.

Great SXSW stay
SXSW can be an exhausting event with 10 to 13 hour days for 8 days straight. The 8 days flew by staying in this suite. Staying in a hotel just cannot meet travellors needs for this type of travel - this property on the other hand did meet our needs on every level. Excellent hosts. Very attentive. Available at all hours. Easy booking. Cute place as could be. Historic old home - very charming suite we stayed in. The hosts welcomed us with cold local beers in the fridge in our kitchen. The property was quiet. It was a slow easy 21 minutes walk to dead centre 6th street action and 26 minutes slow walk to the Convention Centre for SXSW. The capital is just a few blocks away. There were several great restaurants near by - really liked Phoebes - a 2 block walk away - and 24, another breakfast/lunch place 7 blocks away next to an amazing record store. Awesome food at these. Waltons was good too. There are two coffee shops with 5 minutes walk. I recommend the one near the capital on 12th street. Our hosts had a red book of useful information with every restaurant, area, neighbourhood, you need to know about. It was indispensable. I really liked all the nice old homes in the area, the trees, totally safe, etc. It was nice to escape the non stop party of SXSW vs being trapped in a hotel. Thanks again for a great time!

A Welcoming Home
As we visited Austin during a record breaking heat wave, it was always relaxing (and cool) to come back to Eleven Oaks Suite after a visit out and about. We didn't have the pleasure to meet Ted, although he was extremely quick to respond to any questions and /or requests. We were very fortunate to meet and chat with Janellle - she was very attentive to any requests, friendly and non intrusive. Thanks for adding to our great Austin experience Janelle! This location provides easy access whether by foot or car to all places visitors to Austin would like to see. Because we didn't know at first whether we'd need a rental car, it was the best decision for us as the 40 degree temperature would have perhaps bit challenging. There is an excellent suggestion book in the suite. Overall, a beautiful suite to stay in when in Austin. We would highly recommend staying here and would love to return if ever back in Austin. Pauline & Todd PS_If your'e wondering if Franklin's is worth the wait, we lined up at 7am and yes, it was totally worthwhile in our opinion - lives up to the hype! Go see the bats!

About the host

Hosted by Ted Siff & Janelle Buchanan

Host profile image
We’re Ted, a publisher and parks advocate, and Janelle, a homemaker and actress, and we’ve each called Austin home for over 40 years. We know the neighborhoods, fun spots and beautiful places that make Austin so special, and can answer all your questions about where to find the best margarita, bat viewing, natural swimming hole, barbecue and special night out dining. Interested in music, dance, theatre, or museums? We can guide you to those venues as well.

Why they chose this property

We both chose Austin to go to U.T. But we each chose Austin again to live, work and raise our family. We have grown up as Austin has. Austin is sophisticated but never snooty. You can find world class restaurants and bars, and you can wear your jeans and boots to visit them if you like. Just about any cuisine you prefer is available somewhere in the city, from Tex-Mex to Ethiopian. You can enjoy popular music at the hundreds of clubs around Austin as well as at the top-of-the-line Austin City Limits studio, not to mention the Austin Symphony and Austin Lyric Opera. Oh, and all those festivals: ACL, SXSW, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Moontower Comedy Festival, F-1 racing, and more. If you’re up for a drive, you’re just over an hour away from the Texas Hill Country, with its wineries, beautiful scenery, and German heritage. (Or go an hour east and check out central Texas’ old Czech communities. Have a kolache! Visit the Spoetzel Brewery in Shiner which, during Prohibition, stayed in business by producing near beer plus just a little of the regular kind for “medicinal purposes.”) Diverse? You bet. Friendly? Very.

What makes this property unique

Eleven Oaks Suite is in just about the perfect location – downtown, blocks from some of Austin’s best restaurants and clubs, and walking distance to UT and the Darrel Royal Memorial Stadium, gorgeous hike and bike trails, and great shopping. Because of its proximity to all this plus the Capitol, the Austin Convention Center and the Rio Grande campus of Austin Community College, the neighborhood is bustling during the day but quiet at night. Your suite is comfortable, warm and welcoming. Cold Shiner beer will be waiting for you!
