We really enjoyed our experience here! It's a beautiful home with plenty of room for our large group of 3 families. As far as we could tell, most everything worked properly. We would have given this place 6 stars if the air conditioner to the 2 master bedrooms was working properly (and 6 stars was possible!). This made the rooms uncomfortable since the sun came up right into those windows. There were fans that we used at night and there was a new condenser that was ready to be installed. If I remember correctly, they were not able to install it due to a missing part they were waiting on. Jaime was absolutely wonderful and came over everyday to make sure we had everything we needed and fiddle with the ac to make it work for a little while. (The other 2 ac's worked perfectly, only those 2 rooms were affected.)

A short walk through the sand to get down to the water. Warning: the sand gets extremely hot! Definitely need shoes for the trek. We used wagons to take things back and forth, we could have used one of our trucks, but decided not to since other vehicles were getting stuck in the soft sand and we didn't want to deal with that. When the sand wasn't masquerading as lava, it was wonderful! Soft white beachy sand that never got muddy and came off things fairly easy once dried. The water was easy to relax in, a nice temperature and soft waves. It did get choppy a couple times, but really didn't stop us from going in. Lots of fish jumping all day long and lots of pelicans flying around. We had the entire beach to ourselves during the week and only had far away company come Friday afternoon and Saturday. Overall it made for an amazing beach experience.

Town is about 20 minutes away. We originally tried to shop at Calimax, but the selection was very limited and the shelves were only about half full. We ended up shopping at DJ's Market the rest of the time. They had a good selection of pretty much everything you could think of. Didn't try out any of the other grocery stores.

We went down to the boardwalk on Saturday and had fun buying souvenirs and eating tacos. We went to The Taco Factory and ate and drank for less than $200 (USD) for 3 families. We never felt overly pressured to buy things and never felt unsafe while in town.

We definitely recommend this home and look forward to returning!

Great House right on the water, but.....

  • 3 of 5

I am giving this property 3 stars based on our overall experience there, which was a really nice family get-together in a commodious house in a great location on the Sea of Cortez.

The "but" refers to a few pretty essential things: we arrived to a cold house, which we warmed up fairly quickly once we figured out the heating system -- 3 thermostats to set, not too hard to figure out but not self evident either (you need to hold down some of the buttons for a few seconds to get them to respond, and an instruction telling us this would have been nice), likewise it would have been nice to know that the oven needs the lighter to get it going unlike the stove top. The real challenge for us at first was getting hot water, because the hot water heater pilot light was out and once it was lit by Jaime, an extremely nice responsive maintenance man, it still didn't heat up the water -- turns out the gas supply was almost out and the heating mechanism itself wasn't working; Jaime came a second time to fix that and we had hot water in a day or 2. Then on the 5th (of 7) days we ran out of water all together when the big tank ran out and the small above ground tank drained into it -- the water pump needed to be tweaked which required a couple more visits from Jaime. We had the water back within 6 hours during which the 10 of us had an interesting conversation about what to do if we continued without water: go to a hotel, or make do much as we would if backpacking! i.e. there were the wimps v. the stoics and in the end we didn't need to make any decisions. The other somewhat disappointing thing (tho not a deal-breaker if we'd known about it in advance) was the big inviting spa bathtub in the master bath didn't work because the pump for it was broken. And TV set #3 was not there which didn't matter at all, but you could tell the house was suffering from some deferred maintenance. Jaime also got one of the TV remotes working again after I'd changed the batteries and it still didn't work (he dug out some corrosion with a knife) -- again, it really didn't matter because the main TV in the living room worked fine, but you do have to feel comfortable with lots of remotes and changing connectors from Direct TV to DVD player and back. TV instructions would be helpful for some. Last I would personally have liked some sort of way to play music in the house that everyone can hear -- a CD player with speakers? Bring your own sound system if you want music

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We want to let you know that we have or are addressing all the items. In general, we completed extensive maintenance and repair of the house to include plumbing, painting, water and septic improvements. The master bedrooms now have on-demand hot water heaters; these are in addition to the recently installed new HW heater. A new spa tub motor was purchased and will be installed within a week. Additional plumbing maintenance was completed. The water tank sensor has been fixed and the house instructions advise on how to check water levels and transfer water from the auxiliary tank. Improvements to the water and septic systems were completed. The interior of the house was painted and the exterior wood beams stained and sealed. A replacement TV, (media room, TV #3), and a sound bar for the main living room TV were purchased and will be installed when the owner can next visit the home this Memorial Day weekend. Instructions to the TV/DVD players are now provided in the house instructions. The satellite TV system will also be upgraded Memorial Day weekend. O The thermostats are working and operate similar to the USA thermostats; the house instructions further clarify operation. We ask that the guests provide an estimated arrival time so the house may be conditioned before arrival. Know that any issues will be dealt with in the most expedient manner possible. The property manager lives within walking distance of the house and is readily available to address any concerns or issues during the visit.

You will not have any trouble filling your days with activities or just relax around the house or on the beach. Your worries and stress melt from the moment you arrive. If you have quads or motorcycles bring them along, you can ride them right on the beach outside the front door. If you have a small boat or jet ski, it can be launched in front of the house to go fishing, sailing, kite surfing, wake boarding or water skiing. You can rent a boat at the marina and rent quads in town. The shelling and fishing from the beach are spectacular. There are plenty of great restaurants and shopping in town. We have referrals for all of your needs no matter what they may be.
